PMDG delays P3D updates

DC6 was the first "Big Thing" for MSFS.

Exactly. Now, I can see how that would influence add-on companies. Everybody wants a part of this flight sim gold rush, and the quicker you are, the bigger the sales. But I don't think it will stay that way. The newness of MSFS will wear off, and the add-on market will normalize. Will MSFS still be the add-on biggest seller? Maybe, but even if so, it don't be in the extreme fashion we've witnessed in the past year.

I've read that here a few times now. At first, that sounds impressive, but I don't think it's a fair comparison. For P3D, I believe the DC-6 wasn't a big thing, as there were at least a dozen excellent airliners available, which are additionally more relevant (i.e. not historical). Different story for MSFS.

I think this was just a abarition (the DC6 sales in MSFS) as people were clamoring for something, anything, in the high quality DLC category. I don't think that the folks sitting in front of their TVs, on xbox, xbox controller in hand, are very interested in efb, performance calculations, approach plates, gsx integration, atc, etc. And i don't think Microsoft will prioritize this functionality.

I think thosr of us who do appreciate the technical aspect of simming were sincerely hoping to finally marry that with amazing scenery in MSFS. But you know what they say; you can hope in one hand and poo in the other. Guess which one fills up first.

Prediction; By the end of 2022, the serious guys that left P3D and X Plane will be back.

I was actually thinking the same.

@sivart2000,

I could not agree any more than this. With exception of their people on the forum - with that I didn’t see any issues. While it might be there but I just simply didn’t experience it.

However with the rest it is so spot on. They definitely should take some constructive criticism and indeed sort out their priorities with their products. I indeed feel not welcome because there is always someone to tell you what their excuse could be for not sorting out issues with products.

There are some respectful helpful folks on the PMDG forums but it does have a high toxicity level. Large group of pediatric know it alls, rude admins and signature Karens. I started DCS  a few years ago and the forum there is full of respectful, helpful individuals. No question is a stupid question on DCS forums. Much more adult. Just as a comparison.

As for toxicity, it's everywhere.  Plenty of people feel AVSIM is toxic too.  But hey, I don't have to sign my name!

I'll add that the FSL forums is pretty friendly too.

I don't mind people don't putting their names on my forums, but for certain types of support queries (the ones that requires a fair amount of my time) I do ask them to email me at my official support email address so I can get more details about them and crosscheck their license status.

I think that is reasonable, I want to avoid people that has pirated the software from taking advantage of my time, at least they should have the decency to buy the thing if they want support!.

So where I am going with this nonsense? sometimes these rules exists because you would not believe the amount if time people pirate a piece of software and of course it will not work as it should (bad install, etc.) and then people have the guts to go and ask for support to get it working despite they are hacking it.. obviously PMDG and other major vendors sales are much higher than mines, and accordingly they have to resort to these types measures to contain the situation.

So not everything is black or white.. that is what I am saying. .there are reasons why 3rd party devs put rules for their support, etc..

True and the intention is good. However, three issues; firstly, unless you are a member of the admin team, you shouldn't concern yourself. Many members have taken it upon themselves to berate folks that haven't realized they committed a capital offense.

Secondly, the language used when admonishing people for this offense is often rude and or curt. Instead.

Lastly if piracy (makes sense) is the reason behind signatures, treat us like big boys and post that as the reason we are adding our names. Don't justify it with some "so wr can all get along" reasoning because it has the oppsite effect.

Leonardo as well. They’re a little slow answering sometimes but they are a small team who made Fly the Maddog as a side line and produced one of the most immersive planes in sim. They’re always respectful and openly admit when something may be wrong or a bug and often give free updates.

IMO those guys are a five star class act.

Let me mention there are some old MD pilots willing to help with real world operations questions.

Personally I think it’s rude to ask for help and not provide one’s real name.  But hey maybe the one formerly known as Prince was right 😉  When I call a company for support, the first thing they ask is for my name and account info.

But as “Simbol” indicated, it’s simply business to match up with a name (likely from the CC) when the order is placed to avoid spending support time on customers that steal software … which would take away time from verified paying customers who are asking for support.

There is no malice.  Not sure why such a requirement is deemed offensive?  FSLabs verify also … maybe if there were no theft this requirement would never have been implemented.  There is always two sides to a coin.

Cheers, Rob.

Clearly missed my point. Asking for and providing a name isn't my issue. Although I do believe thetr are equally valid reasons for not using your real name.Their forum, their rules. What i object to is the arrogant and condescending culture at PMDG and a large portion, relative to other forums, of the forum members.

As far as the signatures, it almost seems like an unwritten contest to pounce on a guy for accidentally not having a signature. And, it is often done in a curt rather than helpful manner. Rude.

I would be happy to provide a plethora of evidence for my accusation. Understand,  I totally agree asking for real name is not a big deal. Not my issue.

A short search of reddit and other forums will quickly confirm the holier than thou culture that permeates PMDG. They have little regard for the public's perception of the company, only of their own high opinion of themselves. And as I always assert,  this is a mostly a function of no competition, a captive audience and a CEO that thinks he's God's gift.
