December 11, 20214 yr Has anyone here purchased and flown the PMDG DC-6? I have a serious craving for this aircraft but wanted some experienced opinions before I purchase it...I have never paid as much for any simulator add-on and sure would appreciate any advice given! Thanks... Steve Steve 7 Miles NW of KGCK

Thanks... Steve It’s at the top of the list..She is old school so there is some manipulation by the pilot to successfully fly it, not a “press a button and watch it fly”. Everything about it is great, it’s cool to see those big radials turnover, even the little needles in the gauges vibrate due to the engines turning. I will warn you tho time needs to be spent on it to properly learn how to fly it, I myself purchased it during the Black Friday sales that were going on but have yet to truly learn it as my time is limited, so just be prepared to invest some time if you really want to learn it. PMDG made some good tutorial videos on YouTube… So my opinion, it’s a fantastic add-on, I’m just finding it hard to dedicate time to learning it due to my time limitations….but even just talking about it now I want to go learn and fly it. December 11, 20214 yr It’s a lovely aircraft that looks/feels/sounds like what I’d think a DC-6 should be like. Lots of liveries available, and a primitive autopilot too. A good purchase.
December 11, 20214 yr I was never into the older classics, but this aircraft changed all that. It's absolutley stunning, and flies like a dream. Buy it! December 11, 20214 yr Commercial Member This thing is very rewarding once you get the hang of it, a great simulation. Like mentioned, you do need time with it. Also the Flight engineer simulation or AFE I think it was called can help you out a lot! This is accessed through the tablet. Edited December 11, 20214 yr by Ridvan Celik
December 11, 20214 yr I can't stress enough how beautiful this airplane is and how much its worth it to buy it. It's easily in the top 5 of addons and you should definitely purchase it. As others have mentioned, there is a steep learning curve, but that makes it all more worthwhile and rewardable. Also, there are GREAT youtube tutorials by PMDG that will tell you all you need to know. Go for it!
December 11, 20214 yr I have had this aircraft since release. I used to have serious performance issues with it. Recently there has been an option to enable “nanoVG” in Dev Mode. This now provides excellent performance. The PMDG DC6 is an absolute joy to fly. It can be fairly simple to use by enlisting the help of the AFE, or it can be very in-depth by handling all the functions yourself. I find it offers a nice balance of flying at altitudes that let me enjoy the scenery but still has a reasonable turn of speed to cover ground. For me I find it one of the best aircraft in MSFS that handles the transition between the ground physics and the airborne physics. PMDG has some excellent tutorials on how to get the best out of the DC6. If you are willing to spend a little time learning this aircraft I don’t think you will be disappointed. December 11, 20214 yr Not as enthusiastic as others, there is no doubt that the DC-6 lives up PMDG standards for detail of cockpit and externals. PMDG provides lots of options for how much immersion into procedure of starting, ect that you desire, a typical PMDG perk. For me it feels heavy in the air, not snappy responsive, neither sluggish. I've flown it only twice since purchase weeks ago because in the end I still like my FBWA320 better, but not sorry I bought the DC-6. December 12, 20214 yr If you get it, make sure to read through the Introduction PDF. It talks about stuff that is not verry intuitive with the DC-6 like the order to activate the gyro pilot (autopilot). Also, I recommend creating a special profile if you have a HOTAS. You do not want anything mapped to the prop or mixture controls. They don't work like the standard ones of planes from today.

December 12, 20214 yr One of the advantages of this plane is its ability to fly low without incurring a fuel burn penalty. Since its a piston engine, the fuel burn is about the same from sea level all the way up to its ceiling. I fly mostly at 4 to 6 thousand feet and get to enjoy the fantastic scenery this sim has to offer. Yes, its pretty slow but it sure is fun. I would say I fly this plane 90 % of the time, its that good.

Thanks... Steve It's a PMDG aircraft so it's as good as it gets. Buy it and redefine what is possible in in flight simulation for yourself. Trouble is, once you have owned and understood one of their planes it somewhat limits what you may be willing to fly in the future. You may only be willing to buy the best 😉 That's what they did to me all those years ago anyway. I believe it's also on sale at their website until the 14th. Assuming you have the PC to run it. Buy it. Their work is worth every penny. 5800X3D - Strix X570-E - 32GB 3600Mhz DDR4 - AMD RX 9070 XT- Samsung 980 Pro x2

United001 How can you compare a DC6 and a A 320, two totally different aircraft???
