I didn't use it much because although the experience using it was neat, and it definitely gave the illusion of being in a plane, I found it was to low resolution to actually do any flying that required manipulating a panel, MCDU/FMC etc. The screen door effect was annoying too and performance in P3Dv4 was pretty bad. Also it had two (or three) sensors that required recalibration if they were moved in the slightest (my cats would keep bumping into them), so I got annoyed and didn't really use it. I told myself I needed to wait a few generations but sometimes (ie reading posts like this) I'm tempted to try VR again, just not sure about the visual tradeoffs that come with VR and how far it's come since the Rift. We have one at work, where I work part time , and after he first few days, it is in a drawer somewhere in the shop, and hasn't been touched. I think they paid around $300 for it.

It took me a few days with the Oculus to get it right but the Wifi killed it for me. The benefit of all that setup made the HP Reverg G2 a breeze to setup. To the point I’m hoping for another ‘wow’ experience with VR one day. I had OculusCV1 but the visual quality was only really good enough for Elite Dangerous for me. Considering the G2 but at the moment 2D with TrackIR is pretty satisfying, especially at higher render scales. i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea
January 18, 20224 yr I don't think flying IFR with a VR headset would work well for those who own dedicated flight hardware such as yokes, throttle quadrants, tablets, etc. I rely on those to fly. How would I be able to see what I'm pressing or turning if I have a VR headset on? January 18, 20224 yr I took the VR plunge using the relatively cheap PSVR headset for my PS4 a while back to check out the fuss. The resolution is terrible but I agree the "experience" is great, I was literally pooping my pants playing Resident Evil in VR! However......I wear glasses and need them for watching TV because I'm shortsighted (meaning I can read without my glasses but struggle with distance at say 4 or 5 feet, the typical distance watching the TV from the sofa. The issue I had with VR is without glasses I had the same issue watching the TV from the sofa, I couldn't see the screen very well despite the fact I had two screens right near my eyeballs in a VR headset. So I needed to wear my glasses with the headset and it just wasn't suitable for periods of long play. So I can't imagine a shiny new headset with better resolution on the PC playing flightsim would solve any of my issues. Thomas Derbyshire

January 18, 20224 yr I am new to the game, got a Quest 2 just yesterday. I use a USB-C cable and setting it up wasn't much of a hazzle. The image is still a bit blurry, but I haven't figured out whether that is a problem with the Q2 or hardware-related; the hardware being my eyes 😉 I haven't succeeded in wearing my glasses with the Q2 yet 🙂 Someone asked above about VR with different ability of your two eyes. I have that, but only mildly. If my right eye is sharp, my left eye will be blurry unless I wear corresponding glasses. It was a great VR experience yesterday, but again, with some caveats that may be related to eyes, Q2, or simply to the fact that I haven't tried to tamper with the settings yet.

As far as your yoke, most of us have buttons programed on it so finding those is pretty easy. It actually works more than you know. The only key I use on the keyboard is adjusting seat height, Baro pressure, and contacting ATC. The rest is done in the VC. This is the future hands down on so many levels (gaming, movies, simulation, etc). The higher market headsets (HP Reverb G2 and HTC Vive) give a much better experience than the Oculus which was not meant for simming in the first place. BTW, lots of great videos from VR Flight Sim guy on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/VRFlightSimGuy/videos The problem is no one can seem to capture what you see when you have the headset on. The videos can be a little misleading as there is a 'slight' downgrade in the visual quality but not as bad as years ago. What you see with the headset on is much the same as you would see sitting in the real plane and clear as day from within the cockpit. Outside is a little grainy but not a show stopper by a long shot. That's why I'm done 2D simming... The G2 has a sweet spot I have yet to find and I'm still enjoying it. Over time I'll report back with a 'I FOUND IT' post. What I'm noticing is along the outer edges of your view it can be a little blurry but for what you get totally it doesn't bother me. Here's the deal, once you fly for a few days in VR (after getting it setup to your hardware) and go back to 2D it's like going back to FSX. Yes the graphics aren't as sharp and there's this and that like what I mentioned above but what you gain outweighs the minuses. It's much the same in what we're getting with FS2020. ATC needs improvement, no turn slip, the sim is broken every month but do we go back to P3D or XPlane, no... That's where VR is at right now and can only get better.💯 Edited January 18, 20224 yr by Dillon FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

VR, with a. 3090 and a HP G2. Really, after the initial wow was out the way, it was all really rather cumbersome. Going back to 2D on a large screen with trackIR was actually quite refreshing, even more so the visual clarity InHD 4K blew VR away. Also, using peripherals with VR is just so awkward, coupled with the scuba diver effect, and that was enough for me to sell G2. To each their own.
