January 25, 20224 yr I have realized that I spend quite some time every day just for keeping my sim and all its add-ons clean and up-to-date. I'm organizing add-ons, checking flightsim.to for updated add-ons and installing new ones from there. ORBX, Contrail and others also need to be visited every now and then. Not to forget AIG, which takes quite some time just to load and check for new models and flight plans - today it was a bigger effort. Last not least, reading/posting in the relevant forums can be time consuming too. I don't complain, for me, all this is part of the game. And I love it. It's just a bit too time consuming meanwhile. Sometimes I say to me 'stop installing new stuff, I have much more than I need'... But I'm an add-on junkie, am I? How do you handle it? January 25, 20224 yr I just sort of think, if that is my only real thing to worry about, I'm doing ok.... I joke of course, what with a business to run, two little kids, wife to keep happy (ish) keeping my nearly 9 year sobriety going without slipping, and that is before i go and see what the news has to say about the wider world............ Yeah...so.. Edited January 25, 20224 yr by flightyjoe Ryzen 5 3600 / RTX 2070 8GB / 2x8 RAM/
January 25, 20224 yr I do this as well so it means I'm not actually flying a lot. But sometimes some really nice addons come out that I've missed. I'm okay with it - it's the same as I used to do for fsx hehe. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
January 25, 20224 yr It's part of the fun 🙂 I like finding updates and seeing the improvements in the sim. January 25, 20224 yr This is why I unfortunately can only handle one sim, it’s too time consuming for me to keep up with multiple sims, so I have to choose one and for the time being it’s msfs….Although the x-plane platform has been getting some nice looking products recently 🤔🤔 Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.
January 25, 20224 yr Indeed, keeping the sim add-ons up to date can be quite exhausting and time consuming, that's why I decided to keep it simple, I have maybe 5 addons at the most and that is it other then that, I've settled for what MSFS has to offer for the rest. January 25, 20224 yr When I moved to MSFS from XP i decided this time Im gonna keep it clean. So no freeware for me, its to time consuming to check for updates and all those annoying libraries that comes with them(except the HN shipping AI, its a must have). Only installed orbx central and contrail and those are pretty easy to deal with and covers most of my addon needs. Hope A2A whenever they land on MSFS that they will publish on Orbx central... So far MSFS has been the first sim I really spend more time flying than tweaking and its really relieving:)
January 25, 20224 yr With the exceptions of a very few add-ons, I only use the MS Store and Orbx Cental these days. Really simple to get all your add-ons and updates installed. Bulk install, walk away, come back, play. The current delays in product updates with the MSFS Marketplace is a small price to pay for the added convenience. I don't have time these days to track add-on updates, organise installation files, updates, product keys, etc. Cheers, Matt. Matt Webb
January 25, 20224 yr Author Altogether, it was worth it today. After two hours of 'housekeeping' which included updates and installation of some Caribbean airports, AIG updates etc., I was rewarded with a fantastic flight route with several landings and take offs at various Caribbean airports. Nevertheless, I'll try to reduce my future installations to focus more on flying through all the beautiful places I have meanwhile. Thanks for your comments. The element of surprise is awesome and so is the "I can't believe this is out for a while now" Also, I only just installed the Add-on Linker after everyone raved about it for months, heh. January 26, 20224 yr Here I have Simmarket and BesutifufullModels payware scenery. If there is an update I will be informed. Updating on 2 view pc’s take perhaps 5 min per week. For the flightsim.to freeware I check perhaps once every 2 months or after a MSFS update has been released. Updating Prosim less than 2 minutes every time I go flying (almost daily beta updates). So not much time spending on keeping it clean….. 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0
January 26, 20224 yr We admitted we were powerless over FlightSim—that our lives had become unmanageable. Going to FSA (Flight Simmer's Anonymous) really helped me . 😉🙂
January 26, 20224 yr I am one of those guys who keep it simple. I only have the FBW A32NX and the Kodiak 100 in my community folder and that's it. Nothing else. I enjoy MSFS as it is and have no problems waiting for Asobo to deliver the goods (if any). Last weekend I wanted to give two populair airport addons from flightsim.to a try. Installen them, started MSFS and had a CTD during the initial loading screen...! So I deleted the airports again and now I am even more sure I don't need addons, specially not scenery. I am happy with what I've got. I rather fly than fool around with addons.
January 26, 20224 yr Simmarket has an app just called Simmarket, and Aerosoft has an app called Aerosoft One. Both are very similar to Orbx Central. All of these apps will show you any new updates to keep you up to speed. In MSFS, Content Manager also does this. But: ==> I am not having any luck trying to update from Nemeth Designs website, so I can't update anything I purchased from there. Simmarket app: https://secure.simmarket.com/app.php Aerosoft One: https://one.aerosoft.com/ 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel.
