good question. What really happened to it? I recall some years ago, one of their staff (Kyle?) promoted it greatly. But I haven't heard anything in a  good while (I'm not a frequent reader on their boards so maybe I missed the status announcment regarding GFO)

While I do not use P3D anymore I must say this has to be disappointing for those who do. I appreciate the change in the market, that very likely in terms of non-commercial sales P3D is on an accelerating decline in terms of users, but these things were promised to those who purchased products on that platform -- at a premium cost because it was a "professional" platform -- and it seems to be fair that PMDG follow through in a reasonable time frame.

While I do not use P3D and cannot imagine a scenario in which I would again, I do have an interest in knowing if PMDG as a company will keep its commitments in a reasonable time frame. I do not think saying once we finish getting all our catalogue into MSFS in one, two, three years, we will return and add these features to P3D is all that reasonable. For example, I do not think anyone who purchased the 777 expansion was under the impression that a new cockpit refresh would come in years later.

MSFS 2024. Primary Planes: Black Square TBM850, Duke, Baron, Caravan; A2A Comanche; FSReborn Phenom; Fexix A321; PMDG 737-7, 777: Utilities: Active Sky (Passive Mode); BATC, FSLTL.

No new announcements for a long time.

In any case it's a slap in the face for the P3D users who have been waiting patiently for this update, and it's also not understandable why they would stop so close before the finish line (makes you wonder whether they really had it in testing). This also considering that the 747 is still a long way off for MSFS, and it would be nice to have proper navigational performance at least in P3D in the meantime.

I guess GFO is completely written off...

Well at least you got all the versions of the 737 for substantially less than MSFS users appear to be expected to pay for the same planes.

It wouldn't be a PMDG update without taking a shot at Asobo. Funny they are blaming the now 10 (?) Year vnav/lnav delay on them.

Shouldn't you be counting your frame rates?

Yep sometimes I think PMDG needs baby sitting from Asobo which to be honest is pretty embarrassing. Even in the documentation about the nose wheel tiller axis “we are not using the new axis as we awaiting from Asobo its documentation “ like really? Is just an axis nothing more nothing less and even that they need baby sitting from Asobo 😄

I imagine this can be amusing or even funny to some, but it's not the "death" of PMDG's P3D efforts that's relevant here. It is the ethics and reputation of PMDG who, as of today, finally had the courage to state this publicly.

As one of their customers since the Fly! days, I am not only disappointed at their behavior but also feel they deliberately took advantage of many of us when it comes to the 777 VC, the DC-6 and the LNAV/Navdata upgrade that were all part of their sales pitch to us.

It is clear to me now, that they needed the money to stay afloat during the development of the NG3 for MSFS and made all kind of promises, knowingly that they'd leave us hanging. I just hope they make a huge new customer base to keep them afloat in the coming years, because I doubt those feeling burned such as me will remain loyal now that we've been through this. Yesterday it was the DC-6 for X-Plane, today it is P3D, tomorrow it could be MSFS for something else.

This is far from surprising. Strangely he could have avoided all the heat by just answering like many devs in the past. Something like “we intend to keep updating for p3d unless market dynamics can’t be ignored”. But he was so wordy and specific it now allows people to make other kinds of observations. Will be interesting to see if his statement stands on its own or if in the coming days he walks it back at all.

They got a taste of that sweet cash and said “we can deal with the blow back from P3D users. All aboard the MSFS money train!”

Let's see how much it lasts... this is a niche market after all, unless they plan on becoming another Captain Sim. Right now, it's irrelevant... and I'm sure Robert's laughing all the way to the bank reading rants from past useful P3D idi0ts like myself.

Fortunately, there are other players such as Fenix showing up. I can only hope PMDG gets more competition in MSFS from companies such as iFly and others.

You don't get to own a DC-3 privately, without some ruthless business tactics! 😁
