MSFS does not shut down

Featured Replies

I've had this problem for quite some time and the latest patch hasn't fixed it, 8 times out of 10 the game won't shut down when I go back to desktop, I have to force it to shut down through Taskmanager, has anyone else this problem?

There is one guy on the MSFS forums “TenPatrol” who is very computer-knowledgeable who has pretty conclusively shown that the problem is the MS “gaming services” app which MSFS depends on to run. The

  • It may be another program in the background related to MSFS that doesn't close when the sim is suppose to close.

It happens maybe 20% of the time for me. I've tried to keep a mental note of the aircraft I was flying that session and where I flew but there doesn't seem to be a pattern.

I’ve had this problem after installing FS Traffic, so I’d imagine it’s something in your community folder.

If you hover over the MSFS icon in the taskbar it may show a prompt asking to shutdown.

I had this problem occasionally, when using AI traffic to the maximum, GSX, detailed large airports and complex airplanes, this meant flirting with the infamous object limit! Then I had to close MSFS with the task manager.

I've had this occasionally since the previous patch, also some times it doesn't start properly, ie starts then shuts straight down again.

When it does start properly though it is absolutely fine. Can't seem to find any logic to it, certain aircraft / mods / locations that cause it.

I have had this problem occasionally and it was caused by some program still running associated with the sim.  I have since closed all apps running, I have six apps running, then I will quit to the desktop and the sim closes with no problem.

Happened to me today after the AAU update this morning. Had to close down the sim through the Task Manager.

I had similar problems with MSFS not shutting down completely and it was directly related to FSRealistic and a very silly (IMHO) setting in FSR to stay running after MSFS exits.  It is on by default and I have no earthly idea why anyone would ever want it on since disabling it fixed the issue and with it turned off FSR still works just fine every time I launch MSFS repeatedly (sometimes frequently when I am jumping between MSFS and Blender when working on scenery stuff).

Somethin' to check...
