P3D 6 officially announced

Featured Replies

Why hasn't avsim posted something about v6 on their front page? They posted about MSFS 2024 and the aircraft update for MSFS 2020 but nothing about P3D. Heck they didn't even post anything about the v5.4 update.

Yes, I can. But the LM representative confirmed that their focus is not on that use case.

Still don't get your point. Their focus doesn't stop you doing what you want.

It does not stop me of course, but it is clear that LM is not interested in improving my experience.

Good point... maybe in the next few days, who knows? Better late than never.

I have an idea as to why this is, but I will leave it there.

The v6 release is a week away.  We'll put up a release announcement then.

And what does this have to do with "fake frames" in order to pump FPS numbers?  Taking on your statement, if anything that would make the prediction even less accurate (prediction on a prediction).  DLSS isn't really solving a problem, it's masking a problem.  Ray Tracing would be on the right path to solving the performance degradation involved in light transforms ... but GPU manufacturers still are unable to hit performance goals using that accelerated process.

I had one more thought on this as I was firing up the espresso machine this morning--P3D's internal gauge system only produces updates every 55ms, or ~18 times per second.  In P3D, if you're seeing gauges updating faster than that (and the high-quality add-ons pretty much all do), then anything above P3D's 18 Hz update rate is being generated by the same type of "fake frame" process you're lamenting here--the only difference is that it's being done in the gauge code rather than in the video subsystem.

A-ha!
I finally understand the cause of the 18 FPS cluster.... *ahem* limitation in certain Airbus aircraft.

My opinion P3D and X-plane are simulators, And MSFS is a game. Microsoft is more, Anyone jump in and play including a mouse. P3D And X-plane are more for Hardcore Simmers. I play P3D the most. MSFS just didn't do it for me, But that's just my Opinion. The trailer for MSFS 2024 seems to be heading towards doing more ground

This is EXACTLY what I, personally, believe. MSFS is a game. Xbox is a game, and the new trailer depicts rescues, and other such activities that speak loudly that the “game is on”!

Everyone knows that LM’s P3d is a true SIMULATOR!

Funny, because the new P3D V6 trailer showcases wildfire activities, similar to what the "game" is doing.

Xbox is not a "game" by the way, but a console based on the x86 architecture. Not sure if you are aware, but PMDG is available in Series X | S and it is possible to use advanced controls with it (Throttle + Yoke).

In the end we are all pretending to be somewhere we are not. It all depends on how you are using the tools at your disposal.

A flight simulator is something that a person plays "you bet your job" on, everything else is a video game.

This is not to pick on you because you have a right to your on expectations but I think that there is a very important difference that most just seem to miss when thinking about MS vs LM. First MS should care about your experience because they market direct to the gaming folks. LM markets direct to defense contractors and have been kind enough to allow us to use their simulator lf….if…IF…. it can be adapted for our home use and if it can give us an experience that we are happy with. If Prepar3d is not your cup of tea then they are more than happy to wish you well and I promise you that their balance sheet at the end of the year is not going to reflect the loss of your $59.00. If you like pretty pics and downloading a TB of forced updates every week or two then that is great for some and others just don’t want to go there. The whole argument is not about Whois a gamer or simmer it does not matter. It is about what you want in your hobby and life.

I've no idea where people here come up with such interpretations.

LM's focus has always been around training, since they licensed the ESP code from MS before P3Dv1. They're not going to do anything that makes the training experience worse in any changes they do, but that hasn't stopped them from significantly improving the product since v1. Having a product North Star is pretty common, and just because it doesn't align 100% with your use case doesn't mean you're not going to get an improved experience.

Or do you feel that P3Dv5 is not better for your experience than v1, and you're still using FSX?

Cheers
