P3D V6 is available

Featured Replies

Indeed, that was precisely what I meant.

Say it takes PMDG a few months to adapt one of their planes to P3Dv6... how much would that cost them, internally, and how much money/sales can they expect from that new version ? Negative balance is probably all they can expect.

A short comment from Aerosoft, no surprises.

Maybe, but maybe not. From what I am seeing online, maybe the adaption isn't that much work after after all. Combine the compatibility changes with an upgrade or two, and it might work out.

The problem if PMDG fixes their products for version 6, what about P3D version 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, etc? Some P3D customers will then ask PMDG to keep supporting the products through the minor versions (ie. 6.1, 6.2, etc) of P3D version 6.

For a company to say they won't support version 6, they don't have to go down that road, especially if LM comes out with the minor versions later - version 6.1, 6.2, etc. This is probably why some companies are drawing a line at version 6. You can see in the post that @polosim posted above, Aerosoft is drawing a line at version 6.

Sadly, it's about money in the end, as @GSalden and  @Daube pointed out.

Well, yeah, but that's not new. It was like that with V4 and 5, and they must know it and factor it in.

Didn't they draw the line earlier than that? Eh, not important.

I really hope for you that there will be 3rd part developers who are willing to update their products but if there are only a handful users there to pay an upgrade fee than they probably won’t do it.

I work, earn money. It’s my hobby so I really don’t mind paying for updates if that means they bring their products over and even maybe improve it a bit. I wouldn’t even mind paying a subscription if that would mean that the airport devs would update the airport as per real life changes / improvements (impossible or possible?) Call me stupid. Probably I would be stupid enough to pay subscription but hey I won’t pay for Netflix.

Any further mention of MSFS in this topic will be hidden.

Hi Ray, i´ am sure everyone of us is tired more or less, when a topic turns into the discussion which SIM is better as the other. But, on the other hand, we can´t act like if there´s nothing to compare. It is not blasphemic to realise that there are competitors which is good in fact, because comeptition force to advance. We have to accept, that beside P3D there are X-Plane, MSFS, DCS and FS4 to compare the "features" and capabilitys against each other.

Me myself using only P3D V5 with a fullscale A320 Cockpit and i do not use another one parallel. I´am happy with it and with AS+ENVShade+OrbX etc. it´s fancy lookinga and very realistic from above. But i have a test and monitor station with MSFS on it and even as an P3D lover i have to admit, that MSFS can´t be beaten for it´s overall realistic appearance i case of light, athmosphere and scenery details. But, even this reference isn´t perfect as i. ex. the volumetric clouds are nice but not 100 % real because of the lack of detailed and sharp edges like real clouds have.

As always the better is the enemy of the good one and in the meaning of comparison, in a thread like this, it´s legitim from my perspective to mention the "others". Even if it´s just to know what you can get and what not.

Of course you´re totally right to prevent another exhausting discussion of which individual preference is right or wrong for others. There´s no benefit from this for nobody! But it should be allowed to compare capabilities between each other and name the competitors by their name. I just wonder why this leads allways to MSFS, as X-Plane 12 seems to have a much better athmospheric model and lighting too, compared to P3D.

Feel free to make comparisons but not in this topic please. This should be for discussing v6 features with the only comparison with v5 or earlier.

Best place is a neutral forum like Hangar Chat for other sims. But the discussions invariably get locked because some people cannot help themselves.

...not stupid, it´s a kind of richness to have this mindset. Same as mine, by the way! Money should not matter in case it´s spent to have more fun 🤑

...but then all the fun stuff is missing...😜 Wouldn´t it be an idea to make a Forum better called "Which is the better one, let us know who´s right and who´s wrong!"

Behave yourself! 🤣 I often spend 30 mins moderating before I have my breakfast. Modding those discussions is a nightmare.
