Issues with recent nVidia game drivers, and fix

Featured Replies

Out of nowhere today I suffered a mid-dlight CTD, followed by failures to start MSFS, usually about 80% into the start process when it reaches start of my TDS GTN addin.  I tried numerous workarounds over three hours without success.  I am now 60% into a complete MSFS reinstall, my first reinstall in about two years.  In the meantime I have continued to research, and came up with this.

Odd, I recently updated to the latest nVidia game ready driver, 536.40, after MSFS kept exhorting me that my 531.29 was no longer adequate for MSFS. I am running an RTX 3080. Now MSFS is telling us to drop back to that very driver.   *&^%*&(^%(&^&

Good thing I'm still with 531.29 that doesn't give me any problems.

The driver nag had an option to no longer bother you about it. I just updated from 522.25 to 531.29 and I don't plan on moving for now as 531.29 are very good.

I changed to 536.40when they came out June 29. Running an RTX 3060. No problems, unless one counts the occasional white outlines on GTN screens.

Great! Matches my experience until 1900Z today.  Did you follow the link and read?

I too upgraded to the latest (per the MSFS prompt to do so).  Sorry I did.  Now every app on dual screen auto minimizes when I click on another app on the other screen.  Really sucks...

CPU: Core i5-6600K 4 core (3.5GHz) - overclock to 4.3 | RAM: (1066 MHz) 16GB
MOBO: ASUS Z170 Pro |  GeForce GTX 1070 8GB | MONITOR: 2560 X 1440 2K

By dumb luck I happen to be using one of the versions recommended in that thread (536.23) and I haven't had any CTD's in a while.  None with that driver anyway.

I've installed the last couple of latest nvidia drivers and whilst they seem to be ok, I feel that the 531.29 was better for msfs on my rig (specs in signature).

Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)

No problems here.

Did a fresh install of Win 11 and MFS 2020 Premium Deluxe and pushed that version of the drivers.

RTX 3060 Ti here...

3080ti Testing 536.40. No crash in the Hjet yet. But 531.29 seems to be a better driver to me.

I always update to the latest Nvidia driver and never had an issue.

I have posted this before, and will do it again. If I have a driver that is working correctly, I don't fix it. I have never installed the latest drivers, and over many years have had Zero driver problems.

Same. I'm always surprised at Avsim's uncanny ability to have their games and machine go haywire after a simple driver update. Either it's magic 30-40% performance increases or their sim starts to act out, every single time 😅

M$/Asobo are acknowledging there's a problem with the driver, but you suggest it's an AVSIM thing.  How insightful.

The purpose of a new driver isn't just so the graphics card works on a basic level; it's to take advantage and support new features in video games.
