May 5, 20242 yr Just completed my first flight with BATC (EHAM to EGGL). That worked pretty well. Until when I had to read back the landing clearance and forgot to say the runway and the tower yelled at me (No! cleared to land rwy 09L)😂. That cracked me up. Unfortunately he didn‘t react to my ensuing diatribe. i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2
May 5, 20242 yr Haven't had chance for a full flight yet, but some very early thoughts (coming from a P2ATC user). 1/ No voice training involved, but it understands me perfectly. 2/ Full volume is LOUD (P2ATC definitely isn't). 3/ Basic voices seem good *BUT* my ability to understand heavy accents isn't (Listening to RW ATC this would seem to be accurate !!) 4/ Clearance, Taxi and Takeoff were absolutely fine - the only point I noted was that compared to p2atc I wasn't given an initial altitude ****HOWEVER**** the SID I flew had an initial clearance attached to it - so that *MAY* be more realistic. Further altitude clearance came quite quickly. Got a week at work now so will see if I get an early finish for a chance to try later in the week.... May 5, 20242 yr Does BATC allow you to request a specific approach and runway? Or are you stuck with what it gives you?

This would be a huge negative, as this leads to the loss of frame generation for the period the BATC window is visible... No not true. If you use speech only to talk to BATC then MSFS remains focused even with BATC always on top. However MSFS will lose focus if you interact with BATC window in any way. For example if the BATC does not understand your request/response and you have to resort to pressing the appropriate response button in the BATC window. Not happened to me yet in the 3 flights I have carried out. So far it's meeting expectation, though it's approach vectoring can be strange on occasions. Sure it will be improved in time. At the moment I've got my FO on the radios, which also helps as he is much better at understanding the Spanish accent. G Gary Davies aka "Gazzareth" Simming since 747 on the Acorn Electron

May 5, 20242 yr So, starting my first flight, all perfect so far from clearance to taxi to departure. Even got radar vectors after departure to my first waypoint. And those voices (premium), they are SO immersive. Much much better than SI, mostly because of the regionalization / accents. Will report on how it goes on from here. And the usual default MSFS controllers communicate back and forth with them? That’s what I’m thinking is happening reading these posts. If so, that’s ok with me but wondering if BATC and default traffic sometimes talk over one another because one doesn’t know the other exists.

After the restart of the program it asks you what the flight stage, you selected and then nothing. If you are at cruise level and you don't know the center freq - your flight is over. This is really big one.Huge turnoff. Maybe you should learn how to use the program before complaining about things that you can actually do. Like disable the PTT beep if you do not want to hear it. Or click the headphone icon and see a list of frequencies applicable to your location. As for your frequent disconnects...I haven't a clue. I flew for 5 hours today with BATC and it was pretty dang amazing. Looking forward to what the future holds. Edited May 5, 20242 yr by sargeski

I’m very glad I chose to just jump into it though, as it was extremely immersive. Even at the end of the flight I was already a lot more comfortable. It does add to the workload though, and after all we’re flying airliners meant for two pilots, managing everything ourselves. My newly acquired miniFCU did help a lot with reducing the workload. Anyway, here’s my 5 cents after the first flight: 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5
May 5, 20242 yr So finished my first flight (I posted the initial part a bit above here). The rest of the flight went absolutely perfect: Handoffs, Descent, vectors to final, landing clearance by tower, even told me the runway exit by name! The only negative thing was that it did only recognize two gates (one of them being a cargo stand... I'm not cargo), out of 50 or something, at the (very good and solid) payware FAOR by Gaffer Simulations. Looking at the data all gates look fine, so no idea what the problem is. May 5, 20242 yr After reading all the comments, I decided to be purchase the EA . My first impressions was very good. Easy to set up, No voice training. It even had my trigger button I use on my yoke for voice, already mapped. I did a flight from KLAS to CYVR. It worked very well through all phases of flight. It did change my landing runway from simbrief from RWY 13 to 08L on approch. It did keep me a bit high on approch with some strange vectoring, but it did vector me for ILS 08L. I always fly in VR and used Pilot2ATC. I find BATC to be very simular to Pilot2ATC, but with much better voices and sounds (radio noise). I used the same phrases I use for P2ATC, and it understood everything I said the first time. So far very impressed with my first flight. For me, flying in VR, I like the fact it beeps to let me know i have pressed the PTT button and it understood what I said. May 5, 20242 yr FYI. For anyone still having connect to sim problems, thought I'd mention what solved it for me.. My original install was to a custom drive location with admin privileges and then ran BATC with admin privileges but could net get BATC to connect to the sim. I uninstalled then reinstalled to the default location on C: again using admin privileges and now BATC connects to the sim with no problem. No way of knowing if the problem was solved by simply doing a reinstall or because I re-installed to the default location. Bottom line, if you have installed BATC to a non-default location and you are having connections problems, reinstalling to the default location just might fix the problem.
