It was a bit of a disappontment, to be honest. But it's but one test - please Avsimmers - go ahead and do more experiments! It took quite a while to update to 24H2 (for some reason) - but the process is quite simple. We need more data for different AMD systems. Apparently, not just Ryzen 7 and 9 are affected (more sources required). Edited August 28, 20241 yr by Cpt_Piett 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

August 28, 20241 yr Author Ah nice that you can install the update now. I will test tonight. Maybe perf increase is bigger with lower end cpu? A 7950x3d is already one of the best.
August 28, 20241 yr After installing KB5041587 when I launch msfs, it now says it will not run on this version of windows. I uninstalled KB5041587 and msfs will still not run on this version of windows. My PC also installed the 23H2 which I had already installed. Seemingly, when windows does a major update, it also deletes all your restore points too, so as things stand, I'm stuffed. August 28, 20241 yr I noticed it (measured) and i did get an additional 7-8fps in the same situation. Since i already have 90+fps usually, i don't notice it normally. People running higher resolutions will obviously have less increase in performance, much like using a x3D CPU at 4K: Minor returns. I certainly did. 24H2 eventually installed though and msfs is working ok though I am getting some sound crackling. Not sure if it may be related to the map enhancer app so just checking without it - if I don't use the map enhancer, it seems like the crackles no longer occur. Not sure why. No performance difference noted so far though. Edit: Seems OK without the map enhancer. Also, CPU utilisation seems to be somewhat higher than I was experiencing before. Already getting "your bandwidth is to low" warnings and azure voices unavailable though. It seems that the server issues go on and on and on. August 29, 20241 yr I haven't tried this preview version (I only very rarely go for preview/beta versions of anything these days) but I've been using Win 11 pro on the sim PC for ever. Never had any specific Win problems, plus I'm told that W11 is much better the W10 at handling HDR. I've alternated over the decades between being that guy that always wanted the beta versions, back from the DOS days, through early Win, Win NT and even OS/2 (and let's not even mention Linux - oops, too late), through to becoming the "hold out" guy who didn't want to give up Win XP, then Win 7, but since I reluctantly went to WIn 10 from Win 7 (did anybody ever use Win 8?) I've settled in to become the "I don't really care about that stuff" guy. My nerd chromosomes seem to have faded away, I've become that dreaded creature - a "user", and I've long reluctantly accepted that although I had to buy it myself, it's actually Microsoft's PC I'm using and they get to decide how it runs! But actually, given the general level of user friendliness and the fact that MS no longer seem to want to extract huge amounts of money for an OS upgrade, I'm pretty content with Windows now. I actually think W11 is pretty good, apart from the interface changes and annoying tendency to want to feed you cr*p through various messaging stuff. The interface can be dealt with (I use Start 11 and Fences), most of the notification stuff seems to be turn-off'able, and I haven't used any form of MS file mangler for decades (I use Directory Opus) I've yet to move to W11 on my desktop (non Sim) PC simply because I have that set up the way I want it and run quite a few fairly ancient little pgms on it, and I suspect a few of those will not be happy with W11, but I'm beginning to get around to doing that. As the saying goes - change is inevitable, except from a vending machine. As soon as 24H2 gets officially released, I'll update. But not until then. Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case.
