Trees in MSFS 2024

Featured Replies

Hi all, I wonder why this was not yet discussed: what do you think about those trees? I mean, it is pretty obvious that the switch to fully 3D trees is a biggie. But talking about big things: to me, it seems that they are again 25% or even more too tall. Did Asobo learn nothing about all those discussion on tree height in MSFS2020? Or is my impression just wrong? How do those see the size and height of the novel trees that already used the tech alpha?

Greetings, Chris

I wasn't in the alpha, but I did read one persons view that the trees outside his house were 3x larger than in real life (again though...alpha build...).

Whilst I'm hopeful that if they are too big then it won't be long before a mod comes out to rectify them.

What I'm far more interested in, is whether the Tree LODs have been improved surrounding the aircraft. Even on high LODs in the current Sim you can easily see a "ring" of trees around the plane, such an immersion killer to see a bare hilltop ahead and slowly watch the trees appear one by one popping magically in to view.

I'd prefer trees to have a separate LOD slider so I can set them as far as the eye can see, whilst lowering other graphical settings to compensate the extra GPU load.

Oh gosh, so the impression from the various vids was not wrong. Bummer. I fear that adjusting tree size might be more difficult now that they are 3D models... why they do not take care about such things? It must be instantly visible that they are too tall, no?

I can't help but think is that the reason why they constantly oversize the trees is to reduce them in numbers to keep performance up. The smaller trees are the more can be generated. The more you generate the more this will effect performance.

What about the density of tree coverage? There are far too many trees in MSFS 2020, and that really needs to be addressed.

A tried and tested technique in every MS-based flight sim!

In theory, that shouldn't make a difference. Just apply a scalar change again.

I'd be surprised if a mod doesn't come out a few months to fix tree sizes.

I think at this point you can forget about any tree improvements for MSFS 2020. Have you tried lowering the tree density.

The tree scale was fine near my house.

My experience in the alpha was the tree size is much better than in MSFS2020, I found them to be smaller and with a lot more variety. For those who will still be unsatisfied, third party content creators will offer solutions as they did with MSFS2020.

Cheers, Bert

I flew around my home town. Trees looked to be the proper size, more so than in 2020.

I didn't notice anything odd in terms of tree size. I was very impressed with how the trees look though. Also how they move in the wind. Here's a shot from Northern Norway, where it's realistic to have some trees with almost no leaves left at this time of the year:

I'm on a tablet now and I won't have access to a PC until I return from my vacation. Is this a photo from MSFS 2024 or a real life photo? I really can't tell from a tablet.

And now you’ll likely won’t be able to make them smaller using mods or addons because it’s all on the cloud and protected. Enjoy. 😉

One thing I noticed after landing on a golf course in a photogrammetry area: there seemed to be 3D trees hidden within the photogrammetry trees. Not sure if this was a bug or an indication Asobo will be replacing the photogrammetry trees with 3D versions.
