Featured Replies

I just Uninstalled PMDG-600 and 700.

Edit: purchased from PMDG's store.

Download a fresh copy of PMDG-700

Then just installed the -700

Updated via the Ops center

Same problem ... navdata update stops at 80%

  • Indeed. I did a couple of flights tonight and had no real issues. The update is indeed a major improvement over what was already a great addon. There are a couple of minor nitpicks, but nothing that c

Well to be fair, I never said it was "across the board superior", I said "comparable", which was in response to you suggesting that if anyone thought the iFly approached the level of PMDG, they must n

  • You are just spending your time flying, not bashing, that's why. 😉

You can just copy over the navdata from your 777 installation. It's in the community folder -> 777 folder -> config -> navdata -> all 3 files. Just copy them over to the appropriate 737 folders. FMC will be updated. However it will still give warning messages on the EFB, which you can ignore though

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Thanks for the reply.

I only purchased the PMDG -700 and -600.

Yes you have to install navdata. After install it you will see only option is "uninstall" which means you have it

I had already installed it 3 times when I took that jpg.

Everything installed OK here, but first attempt of a flight in the 738 I had a spinning wheel in the EFB.

The only thing that I had changed since I did the install was moving the plane out of the community folder and using Addon Linker.  I moved it back into the community folder and it loaded OK.

I wonder if some of the install issues might also be related...

Moved the 737/738 back to my remote addons folder and re-linked with Addon Linker, and this time everything worked OK.  Just had the one instance (right after initial install/navdata update) of spinning logo in EFB at startup, and it's been working OK ever since.

Flew KSEA to PAJN--flew the RNAV V to 08 at Juneau, which has some aggressive turns, especially when turning off the airway at SSR (the IAF).  The new LNAV logic wired the courses at each turn, with less bank angle "hunting' than before, but turn behavior is still slightly erratic.

After three good flights this morning, I just fired up the 737 for a 4th flight and the Captains EFB only shows a spinning circle. What the heck causes that?

Had to restart MSFS 2020 to get rid of the spinning circle.

For other users out there, here is how the tablet nav data works (assuming Steam version and using the 737-800):

  • The addon searches your MSFS Community folder for example Community\pmdg-aircraft-738\Config\ for a folder called NavData. If the folder has data there, which it should from the original installation, you should see cycle 2310 or another old version in there. The latest cycle is 2410.
  • The EFB takes whatever is in that folder and pastes it to your AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\packages\pmdg-aircraft-738\work\ in your NavigationData folder. Whatever is in the Community NavData folder gets passed to your appdata folder which is where the EFB magic happens.
  • I will say it again: Every boils down to your appdata 737 (or 777) folder with the new tablet.

Here is the quick fix:

  • If you have the PMDG 777, go to your AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\packages\pmdg-aircraft-77W\work\ and find your NavigationData folder. Copy that folder and paste it to your desired 737 appdata folder such as AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\packages\pmdg-aircraft-738\work\ and load up the sim.
  • In the FMC Ident page you should see the latest installed AIRAC

777 flies fine after re-installing navdata for the 777 via the navigraph hub.  But I tried installing navdata for the 777 via the tablet and that hung aswell so it was tablet side issue.

I tired everything for the 737 to update the navigraph data but I got the 80% hang of death.

I don't have time to troubleshoot bad software plenty of other planes to fly.

For those who use the classic control scheme in the 737, like myself who NEED it, that might be for the chop soon as well

PMDG_NG3_VC_800.xml in Documentation folder not updated.

Is this where you copy the templates from the PMDG folder, and then you can left or right click on the switch/knob?

My EFB is blank since copying the templates from the PMDG folder. Copying them from the MSFS folder hasn't fixed the EFB. I just logged a ticket.

It is really a shame that after this update, we have to jump through  hoops to fly not only  the aircraft that was updated, the 737, but also the 777, which it also screwed up,. And over the PMDG forum they are sticking to their old Mantra "  We can't see any problem here"...😉.

If that's what you think, you have no idea what a good 737 simulation looks like.

Guess I don't either then 😂.

The iFly - as a first release of an early access version - is absolutely comparable to the PMDG and is possibly superior, depending on which systems and capabilities (nothing to do with cosmetics) you prioritize.  Speaking generally, the iFly systems modeling is absolutely at a PMDG level (with some touches that I prefer), and their LNAV performance is definitely superior to what I've been seeing from this new PMDG update.  Flight model is nicer too.

Certainly, PMDG makes a great 737.  That definitely does not mean that another developer can't also.
