 Just completed (what I think) is my last proper flight in MSFS2020, ending it where it all began back in August 2020 at EGKA, in that time according to the MSFS Log Book I've got a;
- Total Flight time of 398 Hours 23 minutes (bit of benchmarking involved so probably closer to 395 hours)
- Just the 13 Hours Night Time flying (need this to change in MSFS24!)
- Flights logged in Volanta since it was released (no benchmarking) = 197 Hours in 265 Flights, with 32.7k (nm) flown

In these 4 years I've literally learnt to fly, whilst I've dabbled in Flight Sims before I never really explored them deeply enough to invest time to learn. Now I could if pushed jump into a real C152, C172 or C208b and start it up from cold & dark, utilise the Garmin instruments (G1000 being something I've learnt a lot of) and go for a jolly fly about. I'm still majorly lacking in ATC knowledge and even though I got to grips with the HondaJet I'm a long way from fully understanding anything above a TurboProp, something that I'm determined to improve on in the future.

So yeah, thanks MSFS2020, you literally opened up a whole new world to me and even though it's been a rough ride at times with Asobos "ways" of doing things, it has become one of the very best games/simulators I've played in all my 40+ years of gaming.

I look forward to the next chapter, see you at EGKA some time 🛩️

  • I learned it in the 737-400 in FS98 hehe.  Funny to learn basic nav in a jet.  That's the flightsim way lol!

Yeah, today will be my last flight with 2020. I will be uninstalling tonight to get ready for 2024. I'm going all in and if the worst-case scenario happens I can always reinstall 2020, which I don't think will be the case.

Ironically enough I don't have many night flights either. I attribute it to not being able to see anything lol. Makes for a long flight where all you can do is stare at the controls. I think 2024 might make them a bit better. Seems like when I flew and did a night flight the moon did illuminate the land a bit and it wasn't pitch black outside.

In the course of FS2020s run I've gone from only having a few lessons in my teenage years, to completing not just my PPL but adding a night rating and started my IR. I've shared it with family and friends and now have over 100 hours of real flying. And I owe a lot of that to the hours spent in MSFS.

I've also immersed myself into the world of VATSIM and flying complex airliners, investing in new hardware to build my own little A320 set up on my desk.

FS2020 has been my best years of flight simming by miles, and I'm excited for the future of 2024.

Indeed, thank you MS and Asobo for a wonderful experience. I`ve accumulated close to 1500 fhrs. I will keep the 2020 alongside 2024 for a couple of months, until all the major players like Fenix, iFly, PMDG, Justflight and others switch over to 2024.

With the release of 2024 just around the corner, I am pretty sure the future of fligthsims is even brighter, cheers MS/Asobo!

Yep, just uninstalled MSFS as well, after a joyful flight in a C207 from F62 to KEKA. Looking forward to the new chapter. Where did all that time go? It seems like yesterday I learned VOR navigation in FS3.

Cheers, Bert

I wait with my songs of praise and all destructive actions against the 4 year loyal companion MSFS2020 until I am fully convinced that a change brings more pleasure.

I have doubled my RAM and ordered a new PSU and a Geforce 4080 (the ideal GPU for the MSFS2024) - just in case 🙂

MSFS2020 is almost like a miracles happened in my life. Just when we all lost the hope of the "next generation" of flight sim, MSFS2020 came out of blue. And what a day when it was announced - I almost had to pinch myself to make sure this wasn't a dream.

Before MSFS2020 I was spending hundreds to thousands of hours squeezing every ounce of FSX, P3D, and X-Plane. In the last four years all those painful hours were replaced by pure enjoyment of MSFS2020 - stunning visual around the whole world, minimum tweaks, and almost everything just works (95% of time).

Yeah, thanks, Microsoft/Asobo!

MSFS 2020 is not only the best flight simulator and most advanced flight simulator ever made for the home market, but it also brought us into the golden age of flight simulation. Flight simulation has never been as strong before, because of MSFS.  Without MSFS 2020, I honestly think we would still be stuck in the dark age of flight simulation, with barely any improvement heading into 2024. But because of MSFS, we can see what a flight simulator taking advantage of technology available in the 2020s, looks like.

2408 hours of flight in MSFS 2020. Going to keep going for awhile until I see how 2024 pans out.

I think 2024 might make them a bit better. Seems like when I flew and did a night flight the moon did illuminate the land a bit and it wasn't pitch black outside.

I think there's two main reasons for me;

1) Firstly the Reverb G1/G2 VR headsets had poor "blacks", so the night sky looks a black/grey colour instead which is off-putting (have since got a Pico 3 but yet to try at night). Then OpenXR Toolkit came out with it's wealth of options and I never actually got around to tweaking that to suit night flying, I'll certainly give it a proper go this time round.

2) secondly the pretty picturesque valleys and mountains where I love to fly are better suited to day time hours, cos you get to see stuff! Flying at night now doubt has it's challenges and I remember enjoying aspects of it, but you don't get to see much and being a low & slow flyer I wanted to see the world.

So yeah I'll still do a lot more daylight flights in MSFS24, but I will try and do more nights as well.

Just wondering why everybody is deleting msfs right now? Are you lacking disk space or what?

I will keep msfs installed until my add-ons work perfectly in msfs2024. As I did with msfs when it was released, I will mostly use msfs2024 for VFR flying and discovery in the first weeks. Just because I don't expect my PMDG, Fenix, sceneries to work smoothly tomorrow night.

I don't really understand why some folk are saying "goodbye" to MSFS 2020.

One would think maybe for SSD/NVME/HDD space, but that seems irrelevant at the doorstep of 2025. So, why not just keep the sim installed? for me, I have FSX, MS flight X plane 11, 12, Aerofly FS2 MSFS 2020 all installed, as I like to revisit other sim options from time to time. I still have FS9 as well, but that would be pushing it as far as graphical fidelity is concerned lol. I do have it installed on an older PC though, along with P3D 4 and 5 EDIT.

The wording of some folks saying goodbye to the sim, sounds like they have no choice, as if they are bidding farewell to an old friend. I digress though- to each his own.

MSFS 2020 has been a great experience for me since day 1. It more than holds it's own and far from outdated, and as long as Asobo/MS keep supporting it as promised, it stays in my system. I don't know if it is sheer luck, but I've have very very little issues since it's release- I've been through hardware upgrades, mobo, cpu, ram three times since launch, migrating win 10 along the way, with no issues, never a clean OS install. Always at 4k 100% scaling with TAA on Ultra. Yes there were oddities during updates- especially betas but they were resolved soon enough at one point or another.

Maybe one day I will put 2020 aside, we will just have to see how the new version performs over time. I just see no good reason for binning 2020 from the get-go without fully evaluating and experiencing the new sim for myself at the very least. Watching youtubers, and alpha testers just does not do it for me- I much prefer hands on.

Also, there has been so much talk about Asobo not hitting it's promises for some of the new sim's features on launch. For me that's fine. Even at the worst case scenario, where crashing servers during install, or the sim itself is plagued with issues, I still have a perfectly great sim to fall back on, with all my favorite add ons and aircraft. That's how I see it. Cheers.
