No 2020 / 2024 separate forums...

Featured Replies

It’s not about intelligence, it’s about convenience. This is not an explanation for the reason. As 2024 will continue to advance, it’s reasonable to think that it eventually will be the dominant sim. Locking threads like this when many users are simply asking for a separate forum for a new release that happens every fours years—with no rationale provided—is frustrating. Makes it seem like egos and power plays are driving the decision, not listening to the user base. Geez why not make it easier? And if you are going to hold the line, how about providing a rationale other than “a decision was made”—which is not a rationale. I do love a sim and have been coming here near daily for years but this reflects poorly on the mods or whomever is deciding these things. Come on, man!

I am confident that our user base possesses the requisite intelligence to be able to sort thru MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 posts during the brief overlap period where both sims still enjoy widespread interest.

I'm beginning to doubt that statement.  🤷

And yet, still no answer as to whether adding extra forums is an additional cost to AVSim or not.

Once again, a quick glance shows that tags are not being used consistently (despite observing that someone went and retrospectively applied tags to existing posts shortly after I posted my earlier message about tags not being used). How long are staff going to retrospectively add missing tags to keep up the appearance that the Discord style 'mess' of mixed posts is all that loyal Avsim readers deserve?

2 forums would only be right, at this point.  It sure does become confusing.  Who knew that 2024 would have this many concerns.  I understand the original decision, but things have really changed.

So please stop acting like all is perfect and it's everyone else with an issue. There are numerous teething issues that can't be denied some of which are show stoppers for certain users.

Many of the issues will all be remedied in due time. Some already have, for example steaming has no longer been a problem for me.

If you think MSFS2020 is going to remain popular that's delusional.

MSFS2024 is the future like it or not that is where MSFS will be putting it's emphasis.

I expect topics about 2020 will fade away over time.

They can't all be making it up...

No, they weren't making it up on day one.  Day four now and there has been good progress towards a good looking, more advanced sim.  Good those with the patience of five years olds have left more bandwidth for those of us who like progress.

Well, yeah. They have time to complain. The rest of us are too busy flying in the sim to write much on the internet.

Most of us are more focused on what the sim's potential is rather than what it is right now. There's a lot broken in it, and I fully agree that MS/Asobo were absolute idiots to do this again instead of being patient and making sure the sim worked at least relatively well before releasing it. No one would have cared if it'd ended up being named MS2025.

However, history tells us they will work on it and that vast improvements are in the future. The angry kids on Steam throwing temper tantrums because they didn't get what they want RIGHT NOW are not going to change that, so the rest of us don't really care what they have to say.

Absolutely spot on sir 😉

How about the people that paid $260 for 2024. I bet they have some buyers remorse.

MSFS 2020 was the future when it was released and yet we still have FSX and FS9 forums.

Sometimes the future isn't all that it's cracked up to be.

It's like buying stocks in the stock market. You buy based with an eye on the future (the potential of management or people behind the product).

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).

Erm….seems like this topic—which is about the idea of msfs2020 and 2024 having the same or separate forums—keeps getting hijacked by people wanting to debate whether the current sim is good or not so good. Since that is being done in other threads, let’s keep this one for discussion re: separate or single forum.

Nvidia RTX 3060

Why cant they just put 2020 content in a subforum and call it Relic, or Legacy:p, and just rename the main forum to MSFS 2024…?…. Would be neat:)

Weird condescending remark because you guys have a financial interest in not letting this happen, I'm guessing. It doesn't make any logical sense to not separate them at this point. The current tagging system clearing isn't working nor is it effective. AVSIM is also the forum with the most sub-forums on the planet I reckon. You got a sub-forum for every thing imaginable, for simulators that went bust over a decade ago, products that no one uses and there's zero activity in them and 20 others that are gathering dust... Yet having separate sub-forums for two of the biggest products is just crazy talk, apparently. Then it's easier to throw them all in one big pile.

And you say this to flight simmers, who are simulating an industry that is about planning, order, doing things right, keep things tight and doing everything by the book and proper. Then it's apparently just people being unintelligent because they don't want this forum spaghetti 🤷
