As a GA flyer, MSFS 2024 is just amazing.  I get the frustrations for you airliner jocks.  I just want to cruise around in my light GA and look at the scenery.

I started as many others do w/ light GA simcraft and enjoyed the heck out of it.  Then started getting into airliners and now that's almost all I do using A Pilot's Life and Self Loading Cargo for their scoring pieces and ambience, and love it.  That being said I've fantasized 2024 would be a great place to segue back into GA light aircraft for just that reason to get into the scenery.  And as a segue in to that have been enjoying time in the Longitude over the last couple months.  I bought 2024 pre release and have held off on installing.  TBH I still have way too much fun in 2020 so not urgent to see the new sim.  I will probably install it as a Christmas gift to myself.

I thought I was getting somewhere the other night with this Sim, but ultimately there's too many issues and it's such a frustrating experience I've decided to park it until the next couple of hot fixes get released at least (should Asobo bother to fix the most gratingly obvious game breaking VR ones that is, I don't hold much hope!).

Yep. Come to the same conclusion. At the moment I'm parking it as it's becoming an excersise in frustration.

There is simply soooooo much broken, bugged and unpolished that it's obvious naming it '2024' had become a millstone around Asobo's neck in that they simply had to get it out this year come what may.

Back to reliable, working, equally gorgeous 2020 for me.

Very balanced re-review.

Lot's of positives and good things to say, while still calling out a lot of the things people are asking for (some of which are already in the works) and things he still finds lacking...  Very complimentary of inibuilds and impressed they actually reached out to him while still critiquing things he found/finds unacceptable.

Far from the doom and gloom but certainly moving in the right direction despite still having some issues.  I will say, the video looked the best of any sim I have ever seen.  That part is undeniable.  I would also agree 24 at release is far mature than 2020 was but as it is a follow up title leveraging a lot of the work from 2020 I would tend to expect that.

Overall, a lot of good things to say!

Absolutely. This is how the industry works. Unless a development studio are also their own publisher, they work for the publisher, who sets the release date. Release dates are not often pushed back because, these days, they can patch it.

Although many people don't appreciate how much is unknown and unexpected until software is out there, running on many different platforms, with different OS, driver, etc., configurations.

Even in the studio, one thing can work on a dev's machine but not on another dev's (but luckily those issues will be worked out before release, unless of course they present themselves when the release build has already gone out to meet schedule).

Full disclosure: I am not a RL pilot, but do have plenty of hours as a passenger in many types of small to large planes and helicopters. Note that I am not a computer geek but more on the luddite end of the spectrum. I have a very high end system and have been an active simmer since FSX days. My indoor hobby is flight simming to learn about aviation and to fly low and slow to see the world and to fly around areas I have been lucky to visit on the ground.

I pre ordered the Aviation edition and downloaded on the 19th. I have experienced most of the negative issues many have identified. I have patiently been exploring the complexities of MSFS 2024 and will need several more weeks of learning and experimenting to set up things the way that I will want them to be. I expected that would be the case. I have, during the last two days, spent some wonderful hours in the 172. Those experiences have made the journey so far worth the effort and filled me with excitement for the future.

Thanks to all of those who have worked so hard to bring us and continue to develop MSFS 2024 and to those developing and modifying addons. Thanks to those positive members here who constructively share their knowledge and and advice to help others. Passions should be be enjoyed and shared.

Right, it's closer to due north of Wales, same difference 😛

Hmmm .... Don't try to tell a Welshman that there's no difference between England and Wales!

Asobo has made a great simulator, it is a meaningful step forward over 2020; I can see the potential of it. Unfortunately, as you say, it is quite muddled with all kinds of largely small but annoying issues that add up in a way to undermine the achievement. Like the aircraft tail number bug that randomly assigns a tail number based on the country you spawn in, overwriting whatever you choose; or the great tablet but then they assign the cockpit/external view to the backspace key so every time you go to adjust a field in the tablet and you backspace -- like to delete an error or change the weight -- you go in and out of the aircraft. The loss of the marketplace and not having access to our purchased scenery.... Any one of these on its own would be like, "ok it will get fixed" but you add them all together and it just drains the enjoyment away.

I am grateful for what they have done and I am sure in a few months it will be really great, but...

Well….yes.

There are obviously plenty of people enjoying 2024 at the moment and good luck to ‘em.

I’m very patient and I have no doubt the Asobo team will get there…eventually. But at this time I think I’ll get a lot more enjoyment out of their earlier creation.

They sure as heck forgot to hire somebody to the "how do we make transition from one sim to another easier" department. Apart from the obvious server issues, they dropped the ball on user experience surely and the entire UI simply sucks. It'll get there in a year or two, let's hope faster given they are 4 years "smarter".

all well and good, unless you try and load a second flight with different plane in one playthrough. The sim only allows one set of camera values per-playthrough. So if you load a second flight in a new plane, you will be stuck using your first plane's camera locations. this is essentially game-breaking and you must fully exit the sim. kind of a glaring issue...

How dare you like the old game! Don't you know there's a new version available? You have to like the shiny new (broken) thing.

For the flying I do I'm not really seeing any sim breaking bugs. However, if somebody like yourself is, I completely understand the frustration and to remain with 2020 for a while.

It just isn't factually correct to say 2020 is equally as gorgeous as 2024 (graphically).  I have loved 2020 with 3,500 hours put into it and it is indeed a lovely looking sim, but there have been far too many graphical advances in 2024 for 2020 to be better looking.  I had all the mods to improve 2020, but even with the mods it just cannot compete with 2024 graphically.

Well said, enjoyment trumps graphical advances if it isn't working for you.
