We have every right not to appreciate the guy for various reasons, but it is not essential to disrespect him.

I have absolutely nothing to do with this guy but I had a brief professional contact with him a long time ago. And he was "already" called Randazzo (very pretty little Sicilian town near Etna BTW) outside the forums.

Unless your message is pure humor, in which case excuse me, my level of English is not sufficient to understand it.

I think that Fielder was alluding to the PMDG forum where the users are required to use their real names. Anyway, Randazzo is not only a pretty little sicilian town around the Etna, but it's a very common family name in Italy.

One thing I was completely wrong about, is I thought Xplane was dead as a result - but it's still going strong and improving impressively.

I don't think XP 12 is going strong. Thrandra, an add-on developer for XP, is on record for saying the numbers for XP were better before MSFS 2020 came out. SteamDB corroborates this because peak XP 12 numbers have still not matched peak XP 11 numbers on SteamDB.  From Thrandra's quote, it appears the best days of XP were in XP 11, probably around the time of the peak numbers for XP 11 on SteamDB.  You can read Thrandra's quote for yourself:

I won't be disclosing sales numbers. But what I CAN say is, that they used to be many times higher... before MSFS2020 hit the market.  We have published 10 planes, roughly, since then... and not even with 10 more planes on the market, have we seen a month in sales like when we published the PC6 four years ago.  Not even with significant discounts on our products during entire months of sales.  It seems like a LOT of customers have left X-Plane.  And this is very alarming, because it's an intensifying feedback loop.  The less viable it is to make planes here, the less interest the market will have in X-Plane.

PMDG and their obsession to MSFS/Asobo I never get it - In my opinion I don't think flight sim community would have died down had MSFS not appeared few years back. Yes! FSX and 32 bit sims were being phased out however from P3D4 onwards was gaining attention from many developers. In fact I think had MSFS not appeared, PMDG would have released 737 max and GFO for P3D and at this point we might even have seen a new aircraft from them. When MSFS appeared it allowed many users who had not gone down P3D route to upgrade to better version of sim (Better in FSX/FS2004) - this not only attracted veteran simmers but also brought new simmers as well as casual players. As P3D was aimed at more professional/academic users - many casual players didn't bother with it. However one thing to note - we never saw any new airplane from PMDG on MSFS 2020, All of them were previously released products (737/777/DC6) which if you have operated on legacy sims was not quite appealing.

However with MSFS - we did get quite few new things which was not possible in older sims (Things like updatable navigational database, Fully functional avionics for default aircraft, Visual enhancements, Streaming scenery and live WXR (eliminated the use of third party weather programs)

I have a lot of GoFlight kit all programmed for P3D. It’s a lot of work to do it all again for another sim.

I feel like you would know this but just in case, PollyPots make the GIT for GoFlight users and it works in both 2020 and 2024. I had close to 10 of their modules (still have but no longer in my sim except for 1)

I did but thanks for letting me know. A decision is on hold until 2024 is stable.

I remember stood in the line to get into the  Cossford  flight sim show years ago when someone came up to the people ahead of me and said “ excuse me have you pre bought tickets ?” I think asking an innocent question as they didn’t know if the line was for entry or for tickets.

To which one individual spun round with an aggressive “yes” in a tone which obviously meant yes, we know what we are doing, what’s it got to do with you,  p*ss off to the back of the line immediately and mind your own business.

This thread sort of reminds me of that, simmers can find a way of arguing over anything.

not talking about the sales figures, have zero interest in that - I was talking about the platform development

they are a very small team so lower sales figures wouldn't be as catastrophic for them as the MSFS platform

I am talking about the 3rd party development scene for XP 12. Like I said, Thranda knows more than you or I about the 3rd party development scene since they are a 3rd party developer for XP. And Thranda is not making as much money as before, during the peak of XP 11.

But you're only are talking to one developer and getting his opinion of the over all development scene from a single GA developer.  You're not talking to Hotstart, Flight Factor or Toliss who's opinion may differs from his.

Yes it's humorous. Mr. Randazzo insists that everyone use their real name on his internet forum. Of course this is always a dangerous thing to do, and unwise. All around the wide world of the internet, it has cost at the very least a thousand people their life in the past. From something I read somewhere quite awhile ago somewhere, when people use a name that sounds fake to him on his forum, then he intercedes.

Casually posting your name in a forum where moderators have to try and keep order is nothing that a sane person should encourage. Yes of course Randazzo is his real name.

This issue is very similar as is why in Europe there are efforts right now to remove all smart phones from children at school. It is not because they are a distraction. It is because of them posting things on social media that it is not safe for them to be disclosing. Children don't see the danger and aren't properly cautious.
