Just be careful with this trick, as some installers do read the community path defined in the usercfg.opt. And if this is identical between MSFS2020 and MSFS2024, which is the case if you copy the MSFS2024 one, some installers will then install both the 2020 and the 2024 variant of addons into the same community folder messing things up.

and I wouldn't personally just add the fake appdata path but at least also create a separate community folder for the 2020 "installation". Better still, all ORBX addons would be best served living in a library rather than the community folder, and then managed via the addons linker.

To be honest, it all feels like a bit of a self inflicted wound initially anyway. If there's even the slightest chance you might want to use your 2020 addons in 2024 why delete them in the first place. But then, I've made a few decisions in the good old PC world myself that have resulted in, shall we say, a certain amount of re-appraisal after the fact <grin>

For myself, I have a ton of storage here so I've kept both installations intact. I even created a separate copy of my 2020 addons folder (all 2.7 Tb of it) for 2024 and as updated versions come out I replace them in the 2024 folder but leave the 2020 setup "frozen" as of Nov 24. Zero cross contamination.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

I hate that too. I ended up putting my password in the desktop shortcut so I don't have to keep looking it up.

Also ... I hate to be a troll ... but their "Orbs" are a total disaster.

Having just seen that Ed Correia has upvoted my bleat (though I'm not sure he's with Orbx any more), I feel I ought to redress the balance a bit. I still think "Orbs" should be dumped and a decent loyalty rewards scheme implemented (like some other companies do) but, for all its warts, Orbx Central is still a pretty slick piece of work considering that it has to work across so many sim platforms. Apart from the occasional glitch, it's always managed all my Orbx products sensibly.

I think the password thing (irritating as it is) isn't such a big deal - and at least they're erring on the right side, security wise.

but the fact that MSFS2020 mods can work in MSFS2024 should be enough for ORBX to allow *US* to decide whether we want to try and use them

Maybe they're trying to avoid support requests when people try 2020 products in 2024? If Orbx would allow us to do as you suggest it would have to go with a disclaimer, that if a product doesn't work, you're not entitled to support.

Which is why Orbx Central is set up the way that it is and will not install products into the wrong simulator.
Like any workaround, it is necessary to understand how things work before applying it.

Clearly, if you tell it that MSFS (2020) and MSFS 2024 are one and the same, with the same Community folder,
you, not the app, will need to be careful not to install both versions of one product.

When people use to take responsibility for their own actions, this is what was called "common sense".

However, the complaint here is that MSFS 2020 products cannot be installed into MSFS 2024.
All MSFS 2024 compatible  products will already be listed in Orbx Central opened for MSFS 2024.

ORBX could add a disclaimer that the user must accept before installing 2020 products in 2024, but people will still complain about any glitches.

I use both sims and I check regularly that any of my products that are now compatble with 2024.

FS2024 • PMDG 738, 77F • FSL A321 • A2A Comanche, Aerostar • BS Baron, Bonanza, Caravan Pro • JF Tomahawk • TAOG H500C
BeyondATC • GSX Pro • ChasePlane & Flow Pro • TDS GTNXi • FSUIPC • AutoFPS • RealTurb

9800X3D B650E • ROG OC RTX 5090 • 64GB DDR5-6000 • VKB Gladiator, STECS, T-Rudder • Tobii 5 • ISP 1 Gbps

I keep it simple. I just stick with MSFS 2020

ORBX Central has been glitchy for a while now, sometimes it will take an age to open, sometimes it just won't and you have to re-install.

The updates are slow, most of my 2020 content hasn't been updated - what a waste of money

Yup.

Not sure what all the fuss is about. ORBX is pretty handy and helpful. I have a lot of content from them and switch between 2020/2024 to find out what is officially compatible. The rest I just use addonlinker to try in 2024.

Some scenery like EGLC v2 is only compatible if you pick the 2024 version but I find a lot of scenery is already good in 2024.

It won't unless the sim is installed AND the OD app is aware of it...

Isn’t it true that not being able to install 2020 addons to 2024 is not exclusively an Orbx Central phenomenon? It seem to be the case with Aerosoft One, Contrail and iniManager too.

Hmm i have the same walk through life here. ORBX is doing a great thing providing my installations with what it needs for 2020 and 2024 ?

I didn't realize people were still using AerosoftOne 😉
Yeah, I think the OP doesn't have 2020 installed or doesn't realize you need it installed first.
