How many sophisticated software systems can you name that were released without bugs and need no updates and bug fixes through its life?

Er.. none!

Yes, of course - exactly as would happen with ANY software re-install.

Has anyone found a solution to MSFS2020 hanging?  Seems to me that something in 2 updates ago broke the shutdown process.  I use FSUIPC so my settings aren't within MSFS2020.

Wondering the same, what happened we now have to CTRL ALT DELETE to shut 2020 down ?

I shut down MS 2020 with task manager. Next flght, started 2020 and everything on the sim is reset, controls, everything. What do they have at Asobo doing this programming, morons?

Try to log out and back in from X-Box, that have help others with the same problem in the past.

I don't understand why Asobo can't set up a file, that you can save on your PC, so when this happens, you can just replace the file instead of relying on the cloud to save all your settings.

There is a much smaller team somewhere else (you know ... the one building the 'VHS tapes sim' 😄) which achieved such a miracle. These settings files are plain text, so you can read them and don't even have to start the sim, e.g. if you want to change only one single key assignment: open the file, replace the old key with the new one. Oh ... and you can backup the files, too (how crrrazzzy is that?  🙃 )

The worst thing is, Asobo know about this and chose to do nothing. Over 5 years both the sims have lost setting at times, including full log books with 2020 that couldn't be restored, and Martials answer to this during a twitch session when he was asked if there was any way they could possibly be recovered was a simple 'No!' and a grin - sums him up really.

If they really wanted to they could provide a facility to backup controller settings, your log book, and other data within the sim, very easily, but they don't because it would be an admission of their own failure on this issue.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

I'll send ya a copy of XP12 🤪... And before you get angry, it's a joke...

This last night I flew, IRL, from Lisbon to Tânger, and compared night city lights with XP and MSFS... Both fail to get it right...

Flight dynamics it's the same...

Feel of flight is a bit better IRL...

I think i'll go flying my glider on return to Porta Land 😁 and IRL, no resets... other than memmory not wroking at times 😁...

This being said, I never get thise resets in MSFS 2024. In 2020 I sometimes did, unless when a new beta update comes.

Due to a very long house move I haven't been able to sim for 3 months from my temporary place (no access to hardware flight controls). Out of interest I fired up 2020 yesterday just keyboard and mouse. Chose JF F28 and a orbx airport. Had a 13gb update to install first , didn't take long.

Anyway my point is after a successful sim start I quit using ESC to main menu then ESC to cleanly quit to desktop and no issues. Sim quit gracefully.

Just a thought.. Try unplugging your controllers before quitting sim? A barrel scraping idea I know!

Oh, a mandatory Windows update since I last simmed means I can't change my video drivers anymore (and oh boy have I tried), also running addon linker hard resets my pc every time so I'm hoping I left every addon enabled last time I ran it 🤞

Asobo simply struggle with anything "simple" in coding terms;

  • Ability to properly backup all settings locally for simple retrieval - non-existant
  • Mouse inputs for VR users - dreadful
  • UI (2024) - awful
  • Controller assignments (2024) - overly complicated

It's like they're deliberately trying too hard on the harder stuff so neglecting the what would be simple areas to concentrate on, they seem too set in their ways to alter the way they do things so we're forever stuck in a cycle of incredibly brilliant areas alongside incredibly "cheap" areas they don't care about.

Seriously Bob, I'm not having any 'bugs' and haven't yet in 2024.  Flying the CRJ to KRNO right now and as usual, all's well.
