I am Furious with these Devs, aborting all support for FS2020. And now, introducing a New issue, And leaving it there.

Rather curious way to "abort" support of MSFS 2020 by bringing out SU16 soon: https://www.flightsimulator.com/may-15th-2025-development-update/  🤔

The problem with MSFS 2020 not fully shutting down on exit was not introduced by Asobo. It is a bug in the “Gaming Services” app that is produced by Microsoft itself. MSFS requires gaming services to

  • Looks like just a nav data update. I'm sure they are aware of the shutdown issue. It is hard to say if they will make any attempt to troubleshoot and fix it. I would imagine they are not at all happy

Looks like this bug of not completely closing MSFS20 is exclusively affecting users of the MS Store version. Is there anyone out there using the Steam version that has the bug?.

Cheers, Ed

Support (Microsoft Flight Simulator)

May 3, 2025, 20:50 GMT+2

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Flight Simulator Support today.

We are sorry to hear that you’re unable to close the Sim properly on your device. We understand how this can be inconvenient and how it can affect your gaming experience, so rest assured that we will look into it to find a resolution.

We have been trying to troubleshoot this issue on our end here at MSFS Support for the past 10+ days but have yet to find a solution for this “hang on exit” problem with MSFS. A bug report was created last week and has been sent to the QA and dev teams to see if they can determine a root cause of the matter.

This issue is logged into our internal bug tracker and is currently being investigated. We will contact you only if we require additional information. Unfortunately, there is not much that you can do on your end of things now as this will likely need to be addressed by the dev team. For now, I can just advise pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL to manually close out of MSFS and then to reboot the PC before launching it again. I do apologize for the inconvenience that this is causing you.

Perhaps I missed that announcement?    Anyhow, in IMHO, not good.

There is no “official” announcement”. The cause of the problem was uncovered by a regular user on the official forums named “TenPatrol” who is very experienced in trouble shooting  and configuring computers used for gaming. He conclusively showed that the issue is caused by the latest version of the Gaming Services app. He outlined a procedure to force the Microsoft Store to download the older version of the app, and once done, the problem went away. The only issue is that it very difficult to prevent the Store from later doing an automatic background update of the app, so the “fix” does not last long.

I’m sure by now Asobo knows it is an issue with Gaming Services, but they are probably not willing to publicly point the finger at another division within MS XBox gaming.

I would assume that they are working to find out what specifically in Gaming Services  is causing MSFS 2020 to hang on exit. That is probably not easy, as I doubt that the MS developers who maintain Gaming Services have access to the MSFS source code, nor would Asobo developers have access to the Gaming Services source code.

theres another topic on this.  its to do with the gaming app. (or a similar named app)

Fear not.  Fluffy has a solution,  based on another bug which was never fixed even from P3D days.   Go disconnect your ruddar pedals usb a few times,  this half baked sim will CTD as good as gold and close down for you dont you worry about that,  problem fixed.

Thank you.
Unfortunately, numerous issues are affecting this ASOBO software to the point where many customers wonder about the competence of the people involved in this project. There is always an issue with them. I wish they had a more stable product after so many years. It sounds to me like some other developer who is constantly blaming somebody else for their shortcomings. Unfortunately for ASOBO, I'm not the only one unhappy with their "progress."

Did you then check to see if MSFS2020 was still running in the background?

I've has this failure to shut down problem for a few weeks, just started MS2020 and got the AIRAC update, now the sim is closing normally.

I had this problem occasionally, but recent sessions have been closing fully, since the latest Windows 11 update.  I did note after the latest sim update that FS 2020 reactivated the Asobo versions of KDEN and KSFO. I was using the Flightbeam versions, which caused texture issues.  Had to go into content manager and disable the Asobo versions again.

Got Airac update, still doesn't close.

I have this problem intermittently which is odd.  I have tried to make sure all of my simconnect programs are shut down (Volanta, avia server etc.) before exiting MSFS and that seemed to work but then it started again....  Go figure.
