May 26, 20251 yr The controller setup in 2024 is word not allowed, in my opinion, and no I don't have to buy it to see that.
May 26, 20251 yr Author The controller setup screens in 2024 are a treasure map. By trial and experiment, by reason and study, slowly bit by bit, a wonderful mapping of controllers can be achieved. May 26, 20251 yr Actually I find the controller setup pretty intuitive. There is room for improvement though. By the way, who the **** is Huddison and why should I care about him? May 26, 20251 yr Author The docs for 2024 gives us these clues to use when perusing controller maps: "'You may seek it with thimbles—and seek it with care; You may hunt it with forks and hope; You may threaten its life with a railway-share; You may charm it with smiles and soap—'" ("That's exactly the method," the Huddison bold In a hasty parenthesis cried, That's exactly the way I have always been told That the mapping of controllers be tried!") 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. May 26, 20251 yr I mapped my controllers without any issues and they still hold and work from aircraft to aircraft like I setup from the beginning. There are some quirks but nothing to post a YT video about. Unless you just like the attention?? How do you "permanently" apply a particular profile to a particular airplane? Does the system "remember" that the current setup applies to the currently selected airplane or do you have to "save" that relationship somehow? Among some other obvious profile choices I see you have the option to select Apply to airplanes or Set as default. Is the purpose of Apply to airplanes to simply distinguish between airplanes and helicopters? And if you set a profile as Set to default, I assume that's the profile that will be used if no other profile has been assigned to the currently selected airplane -- correct? What is not obvious to me is what is required to assign a specific profile to an aircraft so it will be remembered the next time the sim is started. Thanks, Al Edited May 26, 20251 yr by ark
May 27, 20251 yr I also hated it at first, but once you realize how it's setup, it's really good. I never use apply to all airplanes. Once your setup is done, it loads with your plane. No reason to go back unless you want to make changes. Best start with a small plane, duplicate rename and try try to stay consistent. Once you get the hang of it. (did take me awhile), it takes no time at all to setup new planes. Ron MSFS 2024 -Too many airplanes to name. Too many airports to name.

Didn't like it at first, but stuck with it, learnt how to use it and now it's great even if a bit slow to load my various setups. Once done it's so easy to assign setups to various airframes and love that each aircraft loads with its own custom settings. I can understand those that may seem a bit daunted by the new interface though. Can be challenging sometimes but you've got jump in and gives things a go to experience it firsthand, not through the lens of others. Jase

May 27, 20251 yr I think the issue in the video , which I agree with is not the interface as such, but rather since SU2 it now takes about 30 seconds to access each setting. Where as before the selection was almost instant, you now : open controls defaults to keyboard..wait 30 seconds for access. select throttle quadrant…wait 30 seconds again for access. Select power management and make a tweak. come out of power management and select flight controls…wait 30 seconds yet again for access, make a tweak and exit. So the issue is now what you could do in about 20 seconds , make changes to a power management setting and a flight control setting, will now take over 2 minutes. Thats fine if you have everything set up and you don’t need to tweak, otherwise it’s a right royal pain that didn’t exist before SU2. There’s obviously an issue in the program as it shouldn’t take a powerful pc 30 seconds to load up a controller profile, and it was previously instant. 787 captain. May 27, 20251 yr I hadn't touched my setup in awhile, but this weekend I plugged in an Xbox controller to control the drone camera for screenshots and it is painfully slow. Not exaggerating, clicking on a device is a 30 second wait for anything to come up, then clicking between profiles is another 30-60 seconds. What should have taken 2 minutes seriously took 20. I haven't messed with my controls in awhile and I don't remember it being this way before. Again, this is not an exaggeration. Something must have changed along the way (or was adding one more controller the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak?). I have really good internet and actually handle the streaming just fine (I'm lucky to have a good fiber line), so it isn't my connection. I still get a CTD when hitting one of the options (can't remember if it is apply to all or set as default). I thought that was fixed with SU2, but it is still there on my system. The system itself would be fine if these issues are resolved. It is actually really powerful and handles different kind of aircraft well. I have an entirely separate helicopter config for example. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
