MSFS is it’s own worst enemy

I don't know. Chickster seems to think it doesn't work in 2024 at all, unless he is talking about another 737.  There is one by iFly but I don't think you have to pay to upgrade to 2024.

OK.  I have just bought the new Pyreegue Birmingham to check out.  I will give the 737 another flight out of their later and test it a bit deeper later today.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

So, your main gripe is really that you don't have the money to properly migrate to a more capable sim platform with all the add-ons you want? I can empathise with that, been there in the past.  B

  • Never looked back? Then you might be lost if you are reading/posting in this MSFS forum. Let me help you guide you to where you probably prefer to hang out Link

  • I just want people to be aware that there are other excellent simulators out there.... especially for the OP.... maybe he's happy using FSX or P3D...  But 2020 is great, same with 2024, and also same

Me too, and they all work well in 2024 except for PMDG 738, and one airport looks fabulous but performance might be a bit impaired, that would be LFLP.  So picked up IFly's MAX which also works well in 2024.  Fear of incompatibility doesn't make much sense, and the reality is the cost to pick up 2024 is likely to be a fraction of what you have invested in 2020.

I have an opinion as well 🙂

I'm happy MSFS2020 camper with a mass of well-working add-ones. With the amount of disruptive news about MSFS2024 and lack of positivity, I'm drifting into understanding that my next sim will be MSFS2028.

Popular thread on the FS forum now is people complaining that the SU16 beta apparently is trying to get MS 2020 to look like 2024, and they consider that a major step backwards.

That hasn't quite worked out well up to now has it?

Please, stop with this nonsense.  ALL of my many addons works fine save PMDG's 738 including 3rd party utilities designed to work w/ 2020 like SLC, GSX, BATC, APL etc.

As a MSFS2020 user I am now stuck in an upgrade ‘no man’s land” and it’s now at the point where I won’t/can’t spend any money on the hobby - which is counter to what the developers want.

have purchased aircraft and scenery for 2020 some of which I’m not sure can be updated for 2024, so I’m staying with 2020 for now.

But because I know that 2024 is the sim that will now be the main focus, there is no way I will invest anymore into 2020.

In a similar way, when I am forced onto 2024, I will either be so late into the sim that it will be pointless buying addons or there will be talk of an even newer version.

I know new versions come out all the time, but investing in flight sims is different because of the number of addons and investment made. so sadly I’m now stuck where my money won’t be going into the hobby I enjoy.

About 80% of my sceneries I bought for 2020 work in 2024 after update or as is. Most of the aircraft I purchase for 2020 have already been updated for 2024 for free. I didn't spend a penny for anything except new stuff I bought for 2024. What is a rant all about?

Wow...a post from 3 hours, already with 1.3k views and 34 replies... (make it 35 now) ...🙂...it certainly caught my attention. And I could not help recalling a quote once spoken by one of my favorite actors, Clint Eastwood, in one of his films. Here it is, for enhanced credibility, excerpted from the Wiki for Dead Pool (with one of the words replaced by xyz...🙂...):

"At 91 minutes, it is the shortest of the five Dirty Harry films. Like those films, The Dead Pool is notable for coining catchphrases uttered by Clint Eastwood's gun-wielding character, one of which is: "Opinions are like xyz; everybody has one"."

However, it seems there is not a good way around it, so, we have to accept and live with it...🙂...

(Regarding the PMDG 737, btacon above said it well...it generally works in 2024 but no guarantee. From my own experience with the 736, the only issue was that the EFB caused CTDs for me on certain occasions otherwise it flew well...)

Have a good rest of day, folks...!

Three pages of replies and only one mention of 'investment' 😁

As far as 2020 add-ons working in 2024, mmm, nearly true. I've ported over loads of 'un-updated' planes and many of them have a glitch or two. Many I can live with, some I hold in abeyance. Scenery is never an issue as far as I can tell. With one exception, the more than marvellous Duxford by Chicomick. If you want/need to swap aircraft there the gates and hangar doors get airborne! I know Mick has moved heaven and Earth to fix it but it's an Asobo thing.

Well that is really arrogant.  Not sure what has happened to you that you talk to people this way Noel.  That might be the situation for you and your addons maybe.
While more and more of mine are working with each update, it isn't universal, and even Asobo acknowledge they need to do more on compatibility, and will with SU4.  Why would they if it isn't necessary?
The point is though, they were supposed to work from day 1, but Hey-ho!

Just my opinion, but I feel it’s in very poor taste to opine on the OP’s personal financial situation. He’s making a point about being somewhat in limbo, and it’s a fair point, so perhaps we can stop making assumptions beyond that. FWIW, I don’t have financial limitations that impact flight simulator spending, but I do clearly understand what the OP is saying. I’ll take it one step further, however. When a new developer releases an airport that I already have and has not yet been updated for 2024, it’s a bit like unsettling to have to guess as to whether to buy that version, and then a week later they release an update for the 2020 version I already had. Case in point, I purchased the Glideslope KLAS last night, but I have the FT KLAS which has not yet been updated. I felt obligated to buy the Glideslope KLAS because it was on a super sale, but if FT releases their update in short order, then the Glideslope version will likely end up as an unnecessary expenditure. My apologies for the book I just wrote, but as a CPA, it’s impossible for me to not think about these types of issues.

That is why the title of this thread is so fitting. MSFS created this 2 sim debacle (MSFS2020 vs MSFS2024) along with a botched launch for MSFS2024.

I def don't know MSFS financial situation, but I can't imagine that they reached any financial target goals for MSFS2024, starting with the late opening of the marketplace.

I have only purchased 1 aircraft (MSFS2020 native) for MSFS2024 and that is all the extras that I have in  MSFS2024.  This pales in comparison to the 300+ addons that I had accumulated for MSFS2020 (about 50 payware) over 4 years.

I am just not going to invest that much in addons anymore if they are just going to make another sim 3 years from now that further fragments what can and can't be used, or what is optimized for what version and not.

I learned to keep it simple, as close to stock as possible and be happy with that.

Maybe just me but really get excited when I hear news of new and improved...can't say I have been regrettably disappointed yet by new advances in tech. Sure it cost, but c'est la vie.

Oh I see that 'might' be the situation 'maybe'???  You're accusing me of lying and accusing someone of lying with no basis and you don't have any basis is amply rude and arrogant as well.  You correctly qualified this issue with this comment, "We were told, (by the God Jorg himself) that virtually all 2020 add-ons would be compatible with 2024..." There was no implication of absolute perfection which appears to be your demand.  Common sense will tell anyone w/ a clue about how complex this software is that to have the level of compatibility we already have is quite remarkable in itself and that includes 3rd party utilities not part of the core sim.  There are ample testimonies like my own where virtually all add-ons indeed are compatible.  I think your demands for perfection are....nonsense.

I kind of wish that fs2024 was more impressive than what I've see and heard as it would make the decision easier to change. I watch many videos of 2024 and it is quite nice looking, but not shockingly better to the point where I feel like I have drop everything and upgrade. I do think there is a dividing line with what people using the sim are interested in and impressed by. I suppose if I was really into going outside the plane and zooming into a blade of grass, I would be upgrading right away as I hear over and over that blades of grass look really nice in fs2024. I like the whole process of flight planning, getting the aircraft set up for flight and operating the flight itself. I realize that is boring for most new flight simmers and they really just want hyper-realistic visuals so they can wander through an airport terminal or look at blades of grass. So, it is not shocking that there are 2 main camps in the 2020 vs 2024 discussion. Neither side is wrong IMO, they just don't look at what a Flight Simulator should be the same way. Actually operating an aircraft in the sim continually moves down in priority.

The flight sim aspects of v2024 have all been significantly improved: flight / aero model, ground physics, lighting, etc.

it's a MUCH better experience overall!
