September 1, 2025Sep 1 Samsung drives don't use Phison controllers. They have their own, proprietary tech. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... That assumes that every SSD failure is now caused by this, which clearly isn't the case. Luke Kolin I make simFDR, the most advanced flight data recorder for FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane.
September 1, 2025Sep 1 Been building and servicing computers for 20 years. I've never had 2 drives go south simultaneously before. Nor have I had one simply disappear, and refuse to format. Since my meltdown came right after my update...
September 1, 2025Sep 1 As soon as I saw these articles popping up, I did full backups on my flight sim computers. I recommend the same for anyone not wanting to potentially face doing a full system rebuild. I have a number of Crucial T705/T700 SSDs that use the most recent Phison 5026-E26 controller. After uninstalling the KB 5063878 security update, I did high-speed ~200GB transfers to them without issue. No problems also doing similar large test writes to my non-Phison controlled Samsung 990 Pro and WD SN850X SSDs. I have a mix of drives on both Intel Z790 and AMD X670E based boards. One thing i see missing is discussion of hardware beyond the SSD itself--specifically the CPU/supporting chipset. Is this happening on Intel and/or AMD boards, specific chipset or CPU generations, etc?? The fact that JayZ replicated it (demonstrated on video) throws a big shadow on the official MS denial. September 1, 2025Sep 1 Moderator I really wish the OP had included a brief description of the problem instead of me having to watch a 16 minute video. Anyone care to summarise the problem and what kit is affected? Ray (Cheshire, England). September 1, 2025Sep 1 Moderator Right. I’ve watched it but have no idea if my Crucial T700 4Tb drive is one of those affected. Did anyone hear him say he’s reported it to Microsoft because I didn’t. They’d better sort this mess out soon or they’ll probably face serious consequences. Ray (Cheshire, England). It seems as if people are unable to read when they leave school, everything has to be shown on a time consuming video.
