why no DC-8 ?

Featured Replies

Why is it that we have got no payware DC-8s for FS2020/2024?

Nothing since HJG's freeware jets many years ago. We have got DC-9s, DC-10s, 727s, 707s, etc but no DC-8. I am sure there would be lot of interest not just imited to baby boomers.

I agree, there was a DC8 sold by Aerosoft in P3D (which I bought) and would welcome one for MSFS 20/24.

However, it seems the market is not very appealing, although if we will have a PMDG B741/742, there was a B707, JF did a Fokker F28, a Bae 146, logically that would be a JustFlight territory, do they have a developer in their team who would be interested, that's another story.

Why no ** insert aircraft here ** ?

 9950X3D - X870E Aorus Master- TUF 5090 OC - 64GB DDR5 - 1500W HXi - Titan 360 RX LCD - 9100 Pro x 2  - LG 45GX950A - HOTAS Warthog with Ava Base

Well there are lots aren't there.

The 707 we have for MSFS is extremely poor, so I wouldn't class that as done. In fact, if ever there was a jet worthy of a Boris soundtrack, that would be it. It sounds like a Hoover!

There is a freeware DC-10 in development that looks extremely promising, but I have heard nothing of it for a while.

The TriStar is in development by Just Flight and I am extremely interested in that.  They would be good for the BAC 1-11 as well.  Bring on the Court Line colours for both!

I also saw a screen shot of a Caravelle that MS/Asobo accidentally released, probably for a famous flyer or local legend, but if it is another poor Airplane Heaven release, like the 707, then probably not worth it.  Jorge himself promised they would fix up the 707 after mass complaints about it - not sure what happened to that.

For me though, the B737-200 is leaving the biggest hole. I heard Milvis (or whatever they are called now) were working on it, but they seem to want to release every other obscure release first. Did they ever release that SR-71 they kept showing pictures of?

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

Yeah, it's a real shame none of these early jetliners have been done (or if they've been done, they've been done badly like the 707). Just about the only exception here seems to be the FSS 727.

In some ways, these should be easier to do than more modern airliners - no FMS with fiddly VNAV logic to code. (Doesn't that seem to be the sticking point for so many releases?)

I can only conclude that developers think there isn't enough of a market for these early jetliners. I'd love a well done 707 or DC-8 (Boris soundset, please!), but it seems like there may not be enough of us.

Oh well.  That's it then.  Thread over.

EDIT: I found this, i wonder if it's still going (also sorry to hijack the DC-8 subject):

Agreed, the Comet accidents were a tragic setback for an iconic aircraft. The Comet 4 ended up being a safe and reliable airliner, but by that time the 707 had stolen its thunder - quite literally, given the noise those early jet engines produced! I'd love to see the Comet represented in MSFS too - fingers crossed!

Generally speaking, it's safe to assume anything previewed by Milviz will be vaporware (or unsupported shortly after launch).

The 737-200, developed for 32-bit sims, never got a port to 64-bit, it also barely got patches or any attention after it was launched. Flight dynamics were hilarious - didn't know you could get 5000fpm on departure at MTOW in Phoenix in the summer, but here we are.

The ATR was an exercise in wasting everyones' time for 5 years, then when Asobo went to market with Hans they cried foul and acted like something had been stolen from the community: an airplane that was still external blender renders since 2017.

I'd much rather wait an indeterminate amount of time than get another airliner from those guys. I've heard the fighters etc. are pretty good at least.

I’d love a DC-8.  Even more than a better quality 707.

 Only a FSS 727-200 ?, no 727-100, 737-200, (Decent) 707, DC-8, DC-10, L1011, there's lots of old school jets could be done.
