I think some simmers are really getting carried away - at the end of the day we're sitting in a chair in front of a PC - not even the highest end addons are close to actual flying. This addon cost les

"Silly"? Really? He may well be a great guy and fun to know in person, but personal styles and all that. I have a VERY hard time watching him for more than a few minutes, without thinking - could you

  • Another video was posted an hour ago.  bit more than the 45 second 'cinematic' one above. Lot's of views of the nice eye candy.  Looks great!

We could do with a few more with dynamic registration though. I'm sure there there will be many eventually.

I stopped watching flight simulation videos on YouTube a long time ago; I much prefer reading comments from ordinary people on AVSIM or from acquaintances and friends who share this hobby – my mental health has really benefited from it.

I still watch the videos. Its a great way to see if its a plane for you If you know what you are looking for and what you like.

Also gives you a good understanding sometimes of how the airplane works. Invaluable in my case.

Then, like you, I go on Avsim and other sites to see if the plane is worth the trouble and money.

I never base that part on the videos.

Course I am an addict so I end up buying them even when I know they are not for me and I end up never flying them.

The problem is that most YouTubers aren’t honest.

And it’s not just in this particular niche; it’s on YouTube in general, because, firstly, if they were, they’d have to pay for the add-ons that developers usually give them for free; if you’re critical, you can forget about receiving any more press copies; and secondly, they’re always chasing sensationalism to get more views. We all know how fanatical this scene has become lately; there are loads of people who, rather than being fans of flight sims, seem more like hooligans.

For example, I don’t understand how they can objectively review this particular add-on when there isn’t actually a full list of features provided by the developer. Some, like the 330 driver, already had headlines proclaiming it the ‘best business jet’… Then, if you read the comments on the video, they’re a laugh – graphics take precedence over flight models and systems.

I prefer to read people’s experiences in this thread and wait a few weeks for the hype to die down so I can really see whether it’s an add-on for me or not.

Then, if you read the comments on the video, they’re a laugh – graphics take precedence over flight models and systems.

That's absolutely not what was being said.

It's about the complete package.

There are other add ons like the Hotstart Challenger for XPlane that supposedly have deeper system simulation.

But as a complete package the Phenom offers more and that's why Emi thinks it is better.

And how can it know what else it has to offer if we don’t know the full extent of what it actually offers?

If you want to know FSReborn Phenome has to offer read the manual :

We are talking about a product that Raul has developed, guys. He does not do half measures. If it can be done, it will be there.

How do I arm FD TOGA? The clickbutton on the throttle doesn't work.

I'm not sure about a physical button in the cockpit, as I always use the key command for "TAKE OFF GO AROUND". The key command definitely works.

As far as I know, the TO/GA (FD) button should be on the side of the throttles.

And now it just works. I have no idea why it didn't before or what, if anything, I did differently. I did move to a different airport and created a new FP, but that's about it.

Scott

Saw today on the FSReborn Discord that this random import failure has been reported by others, they've verified and they're actively looking for the cause. For now, they recommend exactly what worked for me. Try another route/airport.

"Q) My Simbrief doesn't import.
A) We finding a problem with some fixes in MSFS (We suspect AIRAC mismatches) and the process to import aborts, also the weights, try a different route until we narrow down the cause please. We are aware, asking us again every minute doesn't help us."

Good to know they've seen the problem and are looking at it - and I won't ask about it, I promise! :-) I do wonder about the AIRAC mismatch thing, though, as I do have the current AIRAC from Navigraph loaded in the sim. You would think that Simbrief would be working from the same data.

I've also noted some minor documentation errors in the events and variables reference while setting up switches. For example, under Engine Start/Stop the manual lists values of 0=Stop, 1=Start, 2=Run. Start and run are reversed and should be Run=1, Start=2. They also list LVARs for the two generator switches that don't appear to be used. FYI for anyone else going down this road.

Scott

Edit: and I see v1.05 is live and contains VRAM improvements. Yay!

Is there a Simbrief profile for this plane??

I really hope they can tidy up the knobs and switches interactions. It's really messy. Most switches will move down when you click an up arrow, and vice versa. Some switches have left/right arrows, even where the switch is vertical. Mousewheel use is also messy and inconsistant. It's an amazing package but the fussy interactive side of things detracts from the enjoyment somewhat.

Does anyone know if the throttles in the real Phenom 300E have physical detents for the Max Crz, Clb/Cont, TOGA and Max power settings? I'd have thought it would but am not sure. There aren't any in the FSR plane.
