MSFS 2024 Sim Update 5.1 released now...

Mh, i flew the PMDG 737-600 yesterday and the wipers cleared the windsheeld, the raindrops were gone...although the area is perhaps a little bit too small and more to the bottom-center of the windsheeld. Will check this again, but i am pretty sure, it was not just imagination :)

My bad... (as the kids say!) I flew the 738 in rain only sometime ago and could swear blind there was no clearing of raindrops. I just took a look earlier, and yes, you're right, but to be fair, the animation is not as convincing as it has been in previous sims, ie P3d. But it's certainly a step up from not having it at all. wink

  • I love it. It is like I just went to the optometrists! I can see palm trees as they should look, little or no melted buildings either. A huge improvement for me.

  • Friendly reminder to update your DLSS files after the MSFS update.

  • I've stopped trying to understand this bunch, their lacklustre attention to issues is something I just cannot fathom at all. Yet again they made a massive regression in SU5 with a bug for VR users, th

I feel like cloud bases are fairly uniform.

Ryan is mostly correct with his descriptions in his post. In addition to the virga that he points out, storms, especially heavy storms, may at times also be accompanied by lower cumulus fractus clouds, often referred to as scud, which do not have uniform bases.

It is also common for layers of cumulus clouds to be accompanied by higher levels of clouds, such as altocumulus and altostratus, and even cirrus, which are yet higher. Those layers have their own base levels. And those have base levels that unto themselves are also quite uniform.

I have not yet seen a weather engine with textures that represent all cloud types, and especially not render multiple cloud levels together in a proper sense. In my experience Active Sky 16 (2016) for FSX and X-plane did those best. MSFS 20 & 24 appear to present challenges to multi-level rendering, especially cirrus cloud types.

Haha, just imagine it as a cost saving company advise not to change the rubber of the wipers before they are nothing more than an idea...so the animation is as real as life can get ;-)

As often the case the update on my pc was 100% Silent. No popups, no messages...nothing. had to Ctrl and enter to toggle the top menu bar to see if have version 1.7.35.0.

Just did ESSA-LCLK in the iFly 737 Max 8, textures were sharper than before in low VRAM situations, they still blurred, but not as badly as in SU5.0

Performance was not worse.

In my case the Microsoft Store App had updated the sim sometime earlier so MSFS was ready to go when launched.

I don't use TAA.

I asked AI to advise on settings.

My msfs visual settings and traffic are kept reasonable.

I don't have the issues reported by others here.

If I'm in cockpit view, hit my Alpha button to switch to outside view, and again to go back to cockpit, nothing has changed.

No issues flying steam gauge planes, including Carenados.

There are no little pauses as I approach payware Heathrow, or any other airport.

I can induce these problems to happen by jacking up the settings or using TAA. So I don't do that.

I have a TM Quad which has six axis levers. I have all six of them set to A: pan or B: move the views along X,Y or Z. Slower or faster depending on to where I move the lever. There are no little pauses, smooth as can be.

Got the update this morning. MS Store version, which included a substantial download. After the update? Couldn't be happier so far.

As with SU5, I appear to have gained a bit of performance. Before moving to '24, I was fairly balanced between CPU and GPU. Since moving from '20, I've clearly been GPU limited, but SU5 improved things on the GPU side, and this update seems to have taken that a small step further based on the (obviously small sample size) flying I did today. Don't see any obvious quality degradation either. The improvements are small, but noticeable on my aging system. Sorry if others are having a different experience, but all upside here. So far (knock wood).

My monitor is set to 165 refresh rate. Divided by 3 is 55. So I set the MSFS settings slider to select 27 as the target number. And use FG to double that to 54. The flight will vary from 52 (very briefly), but 95+% of the time locked at 55 and 54. I don't try to go for higher fps. That just brings on issues. Like those mentioned in the thread. Except clouds and weather (I really don't much care about clouds or weather).

Four 'typical' flights with four aircraft after upgrading. Cities included Miami, Los Angeles and SF Bay area. All in VR. All good. Nothing notable for better or for worse.

I think they fixed the G3000 going blank in the Phenom and HJET.

Also flying with ULTRA Volumetric Clouds is much better now.

Dang. I don't know why perf varies so wildly user to user. I'm not running insane settings by any means. And if I run the same settings in SU4, in SU5, I get the constant resource message argh. I haven't used VR in SU5 much because perf sucks so bad for me. Oh well.

A clean install maybe?

For me. the update went smoothly but has doubled my initial load time. It is taking a bit over 5 minutes to have an aircraft load at the airport.

Tried rebooting my system several times and changing airports and aircraft. Feels like it did a long time ago in MSFS 2020 and 2024 at various times.

Just having two minutes devoted to activating packages drives me crazy,
