  1. Scanning the Aircraft cfg file would actually be pretty useless. There is not enough data in there to correctly determine the dispatch accurately for any given flight. You have to take into account that each developer has pre determined a rounded figure for assumed passenger weight etc. There is a wealth of performance data for most of the popular add ons. I will be glad to share my aircraft database if needed. Scanning the Aircraft cfg file would actually be pretty useless. 2. It's a great app. I have been using it for a few months and it adds so much more to the overall flight. Cockpit preparation is enhanced no end.
  3. This happens to me all the time. I loose interest can't find the time but i know after many years of simming that i will get keen again and the break from it has done me good. This also applies to other aspects of my life. I'm a keen Kayaker but that doesn't mean i want to do it 365 days a year. 2 kids a wife and a job means i cant fly every day or week and sometimes i don't want to but i know i will want to ........soon!
  4. I did the same thing. I haven't flown the MD-11 for years!! I tried it out a few days ago. My PC is a lot more powerful than the old rig i used to fly it on and as such it runs very very smoothly. I forgot how involved it all was and the screens within the virtual cockpit are clear as day. It's a delight to fly and i am glad i got it running again and yes i agree it is right up there with the NGX.
  5. Yep same for me. I was very tempted to buy the 777 but i'm holding out for the 747v2.
  6. I use both PFPX, TOPCAT and EFB. I create a flight plan in PFPX which calculates the fuel very accurately for me. The plan itself includes SID/STAR based on current weather which you can modify as you wish. Combined with TOPCAT it gives me a very accurate payload distribution which is very helpful when I'm putting the data in the FMC. This in turn gives me Take Off and Landing data i need. PFPX and TOPCAT give me all the information in one place to help me fill in the data i need for the FMC. I then export the plan to FSX which allows me to import that data into EFB so if i need to make any changes when i am flying due to a change in weather i simply use EFB to provide me with the necessary information. They all work really well together. You don't need to have PFPX running when you are flying FSX. It prints out a great Operation Flight Plan. I sometimes export that plan to my iPad and have that at hand. I also use my iPad to input all the data into the FMC with a cool app. I hope this gives you an idea of how they simply do different things but complement each other very well.
  7. Is there a forum rule where your not allowed to ask a question if that answer can be found somewhere in the documentation provided by PMDG? Or is the answer to that in the manuals? Get a grip it's a forum!!!
  8. Many thanks for taking the time to post the link. Great video. I have been subscribed to this guys videos on YouTube for awhile now. He has some great stuff and his passion for flight is infectious.
  9. That's great. Thanks for taking the time to upload and share.
  10. That's great news.PFPX looks like a great tool.
  11. Yep I agree but I'm both of those pilots. When I fly a good sim like PMDG stuff most of my enjoyment comes from the planning and then the execution of all that. I also like to fly like a mad man every now and then simply because I can. Topcat is a great tool and it really does enhance my time in the sim without a doubt.
  12. I use Topcat in conjustion with FsBuild for fuel planning and the take off performance data. I have edited the default figures in Topcat and get very accurate numbers with the FMC. The FMC does a great job but these programs add a lot more to the whole planning phase which i really enjoy.
  13. I know this is an old post but did you get the panel working?
  14. Yesterday I asked a question about PMDG performance data for FsBuild and someone kindly replied with some figures etc. The whole thread has gone now. Is there any chance of getting that data back so I can get hold of the figures? Or point me in the direction if it's been moved?
  15. I didn't see anyone "demanding" anything just a simple question in fact. Just try not to get upset about the whole search function thing. Just beacause you get upset it doesn't make you right.
  16. Yep same thing has happend to me on a number of flights. Just before landing it flips to left. I think the suggestions in changing some Active Sky settings is the best bet.
  17. Muley replied to Mickel's topic in PMDG General Forum
I have both but i haven't flown the MD-11 for about a year or so and it's not even installed at the moment because the NGX takes up most of my flying time. However after reading all the above posts I'm going to install it tonight Thanks for relighting my enthusiasm for it again.
  18. I recently started learning how to use charts and attempt to fly non precision approaches as many have suggested already. It really has opened the sim up for me. I have been simming for years and can't believe I haven't done this before. My next step is to try some online flying but don't feel confident enough yet.
  19. I put this little thing together i hope it helps. http://sim-deck.co.uk/flight-planning/
  20. Thanks Fabo. I know it's easy to just print them myself from the many sources on-line etc but i really like the (you guessed right) jepp chart booklets that they do with the really thin paper. I guess i will just keep plugging away at the airlines and see if i get lucky. Thanks for a great answer it opens up loads more questions.
  21. About 3 years ago i managed to get hold of some real charts used by Easy Jet in Europe. Various stuff from Gatwick to Bonn etc. They are great and i love using them for flights in the NGX and more importantly they work and are functional within the sim. I got them from ebay but is there a way i can get hold of them from another source? I was even thinking of emailing my local airport and seeing what i could dig up? Or would i just be wasting there time? Can anyone help? Sorry should have posted this in the general forum.
  22. I have the same problem with trying to save space. If you don't already know and you have a spare internal hard drive you can install add-ons such as Active Sky, REX, etc on you spare drive. I recently got a new system but just couldn't quite manage to afford the larger SSD drives so i took my old hard drive out of my other system which was quite large and installed that in the new one. It's a great space saver. Hope this helps.
  23. I was going to ask the same question. I don't think it's a random runway (could be wrong) but i think its based on the wind direction and which is the active runway at that time. I also like to pre program the FMC (PMDG 737 also) otherwise i find the aircraft getting away from me and i have to much to do in the final stages. Any help will be much appriciated.
