January 6, 201115 yr I installed this and it gave me very stable FPS around 30. However, it caused problems. When ever I tried using an aircraft pop up with a F key the pop up would come up white and blank. Two times it crashed FSX and caused the computer to reboot. I did not have any problems switching to and from windowed and full views like others have. As a result of the problems, I took it out of FSX. Too bad, since I could never get the previous FPSLimiter to ever work for me. So I still don't have an external FPS limiter that will work.System: Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 OCed to 3.4 ghz, 4 gb dual path RAM, 8800 GTS @ 640 mb, XP Pro SP3
January 6, 201115 yr This caused strange issues for me so I reverted to the external limiter. My VC was disappearing and coming back every now and then, and when I paused my TrackIR the cockpit disappeared. It did seem to provide smoother and more steady performance though. Shane Gavin
January 6, 201115 yr Hi guys... In regards to Alt Tabbing.. I have ALWAYS had this problem but i found a way to get back in.. By accident :)When you alt-tab and FSX is in the taskbar. Just click it and click and hold again and it restores you back. The 2nd Click and hold is the key.. Works every time for me :)Hope that helps you guysMike Mike Intel 12700k No over clocking 32GB G-Skill 3600 Ram MSI RTX3080
January 6, 201115 yr Well, I have black screens and system freezes with this new FPS limiter. And it doesn´t matter the value assigned to the "DisablePreload" variable on FSX.CFG.
January 7, 201115 yr Hi,I too have an 8800 GTS 640 MB with XP Home SP3 and the new limiter appears to be working okay with fps anchored at 20. I flew for over an hour this afternoon with Open Clouds without any significant issues. However, when Alt-tabbing back to windowed mode I saw something I'd never seen before: The last full screen image in sim became the desktop and the windowed FSX appeared as an overlay on top. Performing the 3 fingered salute and then cancelling sorted things out. I assume this again has got something to do with that d3d9.dll file.I note that the d3d9.dll file placed in FSX root is only 14KB in size whereas the file of the same name in the Windows\System32 folder is 1650 KB. I assume the FSX file is acting in some way as an extension to the main dx9 dynamic link library file in the System32 folder and is being called first.Mike
January 7, 201115 yr I also get black screen when switching from full screen to window mode. So, for me, it's unusable (I also use RC4, ASE,.. and I fly in fullscreen... so sadly, switching can't be avoided). Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery
January 7, 201115 yr I had to remove it as well. Hitting the ALT key got me the lock-up from hell...I had to hard boot and when it came back up, my system automatically ran a CHKDSK. Alexander Alonso
January 7, 201115 yr I have no particular problem getting back from the 'End flight' black screen. I do a Ctl-Alt-Del' which takes me to the blue front-end Welcome screen: here one of the options is 'Task Manager', I select this, and it immediately puts me into the normal desktop, complete with the 'Free Flight' window and the rotating aircraft. I cancel the Task Manager and continue as if nothing had happened. That's all. I'm running with TH2G on three 1280 x 1024, so I put 90 in the cfg file, and unlimited in the fsx.cfg: it runs very smoothly (PNW - KORS) around 50+, but there's no lock at 30. I haven't tried unlimited with the dll removed, so I'll probably try this today. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
January 7, 201115 yr ... Does it offer on-the-fly limit setting? That is a crucial feature present in FPS_Limiter.exe.NoelYou enter your values directly into the limiter´s cfg, see one of the early replies on this.Bjorn "I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there than be up there wishing I was down here"
January 7, 201115 yr I don't have any major issues with stutters on my new machine (i7/8GB RAM/x64/GTX480) but I thought I'd try the new limiter anyway as it's nice to have extra smoothness when using lots of AI and AUTOGEN near major airports.I tried it first without the "DisablePreload=0" mod in the cfg. FPS was working correctly (30fps/2 ahead) but as soon as I tried to go from windowed to full screen it all went black..I changed DisablePreload=1 to DisablePreload=0 in the fsx.cfg the started FSX again. This time switching between windowed and full screen DID NOT cause a black screen and all looks good.I'm running Windows 7 64 bit on an i7 machine and FSX with all updates.Hope this helpsAdam Chillblast Core i5 14600KF Liquid Cooled RTX 4070 SUPER 32GB RAM. January 7, 201115 yr I finally found something which looks like a DX10 FPS Limiter. Since my Japanese is a bit rusty, I used Google Translate to get all the Files needed to get GSD FPS up and running. At least I get it started and it seems to sit in the Systray. But unfortunately the program itself is in Japanese too. Is there anybody capable of reading Kanji. I guess it´s Hiaragana, because of the curved symbols...Here´s the Site I found a reference to the tool first:http://hangakusouzai.blog82.fc2.com/blog-entry-1254.htmlHere´s the Site where you can download the Tool itself:http://www.geocities.jp/pokan_chan/#GSDFPSAnd on that Site you can grab the Package which has the needed DLL in it:http://mosax.sakura.ne.jp/fswiki.cgi?page=GSD+%2D+BBS+readerMaybe someone can help? :unsure:Kind regards!
January 7, 201115 yr I've previously used FPS_Limiter, but limiting frames within FSX gives me as smooth and stutter free flights as the external limiter. IMO there is no need to use FPS_Limiter.Just my two cents.:(
January 7, 201115 yr I've previously used FPS_Limiter, but limiting frames within FSX gives me as smooth and stutter free flights as the external limiter. IMO there is no need to use FPS_Limiter.Just my two cents.:(It all depends... I get smooth flight with the FSX internal limiter, but at the cost of the CPUCore that runs the main FSX thread pegged at 100% utilization. With the external limiter, the CPU works a lot less hard, much of the time. = Cooler, quieter. On the other hand :( with the external limiter I get blurries in Seattle/PNW whereas theFSX internal limiter does a better job of loading scenery in heavy environments. January 8, 201115 yr It all depends... I get smooth flight with the FSX internal limiter, but at the cost of the CPUCore that runs the main FSX thread pegged at 100% utilization.Wouldn't that indicate that using the internal limiter doesn't throttle FSX down in the same way as the external limiter? Having FSX utilizing the CPU as much as possible is a good thing.
