wilco Airbus Evolution released!

Featured Replies

Hi!I too purchased and installed Wilco "evolution" I too am disappointed with what should've been a free update. I have to say, most of the advertised improvements are present, though. Except for 2 major ones, the managed descent is still unusable, I'll keep using manual V/S, the caret will, however be useful. The HUD is mainly a gimmick, but I have to say the weather radar looks quite neat.Where is the advertised multi-panel improvement? Still a chore to transfer panels on a second monitor. But what I most resent, and I bought several Wilco products is the lack of serious support (you get only pre-phrased replies) and the way customers are treated. The thing is, if you wanna fly an Airbus, there isn't much competition.

With my purchase for Airbus 2 (A330,340) after installation I can't find where the "evo" intall has gone. Searched the hard drives where I have found where you can "activate the HUD" which seems to do nothing. can't find the manuals. Only got a key for FS2004 which when I questioned it got a prompt reply that the FS2004 key code worked for FSX as well. Anyway, it seems like I did an install for nothing but "air" as there seems to be nothing there. Without the docs I do not know how to turn on the HUD. What this purchase has done so far is to simply make things dissappear - 1. my installed liveries & 2. my money.I really hoped this was going to bring this product into a nice "maturity". I was fine with the textures but wanted the improved systems and HUD.

Haven't you been reading these posts DBW? They haven't improved the systems. Save your money! I too, wish I was a lawyer. I would dig through the books and find a way to shut these guys down.

I've read enough and will be keeping my money. Bob L

I don't want to look like I'm defending Wilco, but all the improvements, granted there's few of them, were listed. Besides, we're talking update for most of us, so we knew what we were paying for. Those who bought the full product probably didn't know about the shortcomings of the previous version. I've been using Vol1 for several months and knew exactly what I was buying. What was improved and what was not. We all, I guess, had different reasons for flashing out our credit cards. Mine were the metric altimeter, the improved MCDU (it seems to work fine for SIDS, I'm not convinced about STARS), the improved multi-screen display (haven't seen any improvement so far), I don't really need the HUD (who does?) Plus, I was secretly hoping the managed descent would work. Well... It does not...Nowhere was there any mention of changing the FM, VC or any other major change. I deeply regret the lack of documentation, Wilco being a specialist in that respect, the poor customer support, the shortcuts taken with proper Airbus procedures. How difficult was it, for instance, to make the emergency light arming "clikable"? How difficult was it to tell us that liveries had to be installed again? How difficult was it to make a proper install file? One that didn't need the user to reboot after downloading, quite original, that one, I must say.Was it worth the asked money? Probably not. Will I still use it? Yes.

I was actually going to buy it, even after the comments in the thread- after all, warts and all (including bad textures), it's the best AB that we have, and if $25 made it work properly, well that would be cool. Went onto the Wilco website today and just got time-outs (my internet connection was fine), so figured that there was a message here... :)I see one of the improvements is the noise from the landing lights- I gather this is the rumbling sound (sounds like spoilers being deployed) when the belly-based landing lights are deployed at speed, is that what this refers to?Anyway- back to my QW B752 for my short-haul fixes... at least until that NGX gets released....Thanks, Bruce.

Considering Wilco's chequered past history no surprises on how this thread has gone - only all too predictable unfortunately. However, I always understood this was a systems upgrade nothing more nothing less and as the A340 is my favorite aircraft what choice do I have? (Any suggestions appreciated). Leaving aside whether this should have been a free upgrade to previous users, have Wilco at least delivered on the systems upgrade?Bruceb

From the support page:Where can I find product LIVERIES, MANUALS, VIDEOS,...?All extra topics can be reached through the Product page, EXTRA tab.Has anyone found where the extra tab is to get the above......I may have missed it but I have not come across the "EXTRA" tab, lookrf for some time and thus am quite frustrated looking for it.

http://www.wilcopub....ution-vol2.htmlhttp://www.wilcopub....ries-vol-1.htmlGo to the middle of the page of vol.1 or vol.2 Evolution aircraft. They should have added the option to the evolution combo pages.

Well, I think you´re pritty right in what you´re saying. I just think that HUD´s and airliners don´t match together. But if they use them, I`ll have to accept this. I´ll maybe test it when the NGX is out.
I think it is just a matter of not understanding what the advantage is.But trust me, a lót of pilots are real happy with them as they do infact increase awareness and thus safety. It is a real advantage to and look outside and have speed, altitude, attitude, r.o.d and other info right infront of you.And as said, it allows really precise flying.A lot more precise then with the instruments on the MIP.It was all started by Alaska Airlines as they often fly through foul weatherand out of place destinations and it proved to be such an useful addition other airlines are following. They are far from cheap(I believe about half a million dollars to install one)so installing them is a decision solely madeon the advantage, there is no "gottahavethatgimmickonmyplane" involved. If you read about it a little I'm pretty sure you will understand whereall the enthusiastic HUD stories are coming from.cheersTom.

"The best just got better !Wilco Publishing and feelThere.com are extremely pleased to announce the long-awaited upgrade for their Airbus collection : Airbus Series Evolution."
I think the folks at feelthere would be interested in this statement, since they say they had nothing to do with this upgrade. (and doesn't seem they want to!)

Thanks

Tom

Indeed, one major improvement if I ever saw one! <_<I too believe it's the best Bus on the market and the changes make it this bit more enjoyable to use.

The HUD surely improves safety on airliners, the question is: do we, simmers, need it? Who flies here without a panel at all? Not very realistic, is it?

20 Euros will buy you a slightly better A340, if I were you, I'd go for it as long as you understand it's only a minor upgrade.

Thanks, in the absence of other A340s in the FSX world I will probably go for it.Bruceb
