ORBX 33% off sale

Featured Replies

Too bad ORBX cover a small area, unless you want to pay over 100 dollars for Australia.

Apparently JV doesnt think the complainers can handle a 'civilized, moderated forum'............make of that what you will.

I have to be honest here and say that I am not impressed by the casually dismissive attitude that has been expressed by a certain individual at Orbx. I have never purchased an Orbx product, and at this moment in time I am rather glad about that. Some people may not care about the "relationship" that they have with their customers, but I sure as hell do. It makes a big difference to me when I feel that I can genuinely talk to a developer, and be honest with my opinions. One way communication serves no purpose whatsoever.
Like Ian, I too agree with you. I have bought a bunch on OrbX products because I buy it for the quality it represents and not so much the people behind it, but ya know what? If I want quality scenery, there are plenty of other developers out there that make sceneries that look just as good. I don't think I'll never buy their products again, but I might be more hesitant in the future. Their announcement of no sales in the future doesn't really help either...

I did a cursory read through many of the posts and I really cannot take sides as I understand both sides of the road. For me, it is really a shame that all of this has come down in this fashion. Commerce has a life of it's own and I guess time will tell the story. ORBX by far is the best scenery developer out there. I am not saying they have the best talent, just popularity. It has been proven time and time again that you are not king of the hill forever, so you must get what you can while you can.Bob

I absolutely agree but Orbx has, in addition to the great design talent (Holger, Bill, Heiko, Andreas, Russ, Hugh, Martin and others), it also has great communication as demonstrated in their support forums; their support is truly second to none. But I don't know what happened at the time of this sale: If I were them and wanted to make a sale occasion, I would have put all the pre-pay sceneries on the same discount level as the pre-payers (15%), and all the other products on 33% discount. That would have been out of appreciation for whoever shelled out the money so early before release. That would have been ideal to all.
Took me 3 minutes to register at ozx forum to get the extra 5% at fsstore.

Hi, Don. I am sorry that our discussion in this thread has affected your decision to buy from Orbx. I would urge you to reconsider and load up what you can in this sale, especially the regions like PNW and NZSI, as your experience in FSX will increase dramatically.
I agree with this. If you're not a party to the dispute... or even if you are... you should form your own conclusions. And even if you disagree with Orbx management or its tone, there are excellent people working there - people like Holger Sandmann and Bill Womack, who have been major contributors to the community since before there was an Orbx. There are others as well, though I'm not as familiar with them except as names. There's no question about the quality of the products - they'll add a lot to your enjoyment of FSX.I won't be buying on this round - it's a bit hard to enjoy the purchase after some of the confrontation, especially the last round where I was trying to start to back down and got a threatening "don't try my patience" as a response. But that's a personal thing and has nothing to do with Orbx' quality or with your ability to enjoy their stuff. Give them a try.
If I were them and wanted to make a sale occasion, I would have put all the pre-pay sceneries on the same discount level as the pre-payers (15%), and all the other products on 33% discount.
That would have been an elegant solution.

Another solution would have been everything 50% off or maybe 66% off. I like both of these choices.Ray

I'm sorry,I cannot spend another dime on merchandise where the company CEO has such little regard for his customers,My only complaint is I wish I would've known the true business principles of Mr Venema before I spent $$ hundreds of Dollars patronizing his Company.I can certainly Live and enjoy FSX without Orbx.

yeah the no more sales, is actually a very good "move" on JV's part. Nicely done actually. It will teach us whiners to think twice before whining about something like this again. Now we will get to pay full price or do without.
Brian it teaches us nothing about thinking twice. I will pay full price for quality products and so will many others who are upset. This tread is about the lack of appropriate and fair business policy and principles. JDRose and I are totally in sync. I have said it, he has said it and many others as well.

Absolute true. pure gentleman and always ready to help, but then we knew that from days way before they got involved with ORBX..For all their help and patience with me, I can only but say good things of these two people. Thanks Holgar, thanks Spotlope..!Have a good one

+1 and well said.As said on MANY posts before, people who were upset with this wasnt beacause of the $$. It was the principle. 15% discount doesn't really amount to much anyway. The issue is, you dont heavily promote 8 new products with the premise of increased prices after December 15th (or whatever the date was) and then go and throw those same 8 products on sale for 33% off less than 48 hours after the last of the 8 products had been released.Spin it anyway you like.....it will annoy customers and is just NOT good business sense. This whole situation would have been completely avoidable if the 8 new products had not been included in the sale as per normal Orbx sale policy of the past.I dont care about the $4 or so I lost out on.....I just dont like feeling like I have been shafted from behind and then told that I am supposed to smile about it.Will I stop buying Orbx product.....no, but I will be more selective and I will also frequent the Orbx forum far less as a result of all this. Besides, I can always wait for the sale right?...............

"+1 and well said" to you to. :(

To be fair to Orbx, they do give away some great 'freebies'.Although not related to this issue specifically, it is worth noting.
