So much for 'Flight'...

Featured Replies

After seeing the latest 'official' info, I just wanted to post here so the addon devs would know my temporary hiatus from buying new addons is over.I will be staying with FSX for years to come after the dissapointing news re: Flight, so bring on the addons and upgrades!!!

Lol...There where a thread in the PMDG 737 NGX forum for a couple of month ago..http://forum.avsim.n...ost__p__2164753I was warning about the hype around MS Flight, but some simply want MS Flight to become the successor of FSX so much that they can´t see the forrest for trees.Maybe they now start to understand why "MS Flight Simulator" has become "MS Flight".Sorry for this post, but I could not resist...There seems to be no future in MS Flight for 3rd party addons.FinnJ

How do you know this to be a fact? You are either spreading rumors or violating your NDA.regards,Joe

HelloWell certainly no 3rd party scenery as MS has already stated there is not going to be a scenery SDK

Finn, please correct me if I state wrong things. But if you are the Finn from the Aerosoft forum, you are an Aerosoft developer. 1) You may need an orange tag.2) As Aerosoft goes the X-Plane path with strong will, it's not too clever to send out Aerosoft devs to post things regarding 'Flight', especially critical ones.I really appreciate your posts in other topics and I absolutely appreciate your work on fine addons, but I think the 'Flight' promotion (or the opposite of it) should remain unbiased as long as it can.

Hi,Since MS Flight is not something I am interested in based on Microsoft's official release and FSX is dead in the water, I'm glad I have the option of Prepar3D. Looks like P3D will be my new flight sim choice. I believe XPlane10 missed the boat on making a plausible world as opposed to the real world.

How do you interpret the announcement about Flight, that FSX is Dead in the water? As long as dvelopers continue to develop for it, and I see no sign of that happening anytime soon, FSX will be alive and well. The high cost of Prepar3D is going to keep many simmers away, no matter how much better it is. We are still in a recession, so it's less likely your going to see that many addons for it that won't/can't be ported back to FSX. It is likely you'll see FSX addons that will be ported to Prepar3D, since it does have FSX at it's base. As more and more people move on to faster systems, that run FSX better, I think we are however going to see a steeper decline for FS2004 addons and use.

Thanks

Hi,I consider FSX dead in the water because MS development has ended, there will be no improvements, fixes and/or patches to FSX, the code is set. Don't get me wrong, FSX is still a viable sim and will be for some time, but as far as code development, its dead in the water and has been for some time.P3D's code on the other hand is still being developed and/or fine tuned even as I type this. Most of my FSX's addons have already been ported over to P3D, new developers are beginning to support P3D and I'm sure this trend will continue. As I said earlier, I believe XPlane10 missed the boat when they decided to make a plausible world as opposed to the real world. Prior to that decision, XPlane10 was going to be my go-to sim, but not anymore. I do not want to fly in a plausible word.

How do you interpret the announcement about Flight, that FSX is Dead in the water?

I agree with the statement about Prepar3D being a better/good alternative. They probably need to come with an alternate license scheme that allows enthusiasts and/or power users to get a license without having to apply as developers (monthly fee). I don't know, something like single user 'Home training' for individuals and not corporations and charge $75 for it. I do see a bright future for prepar3D....

Hi,I agree my friend, that would be the BEST THING to happen to flight simulation.

Agreed P3D is the future for simmers like us.

I believe P3D had to sign some sort of agreement with MS that said they would not sell it to home users, I assume, so that they didn't take business away from MS. But hopefully, if Microsoft does end up abandoning us completely, P3D will come up with something. That being said, I still haven't lost out hope for Flight. There has still been no word on if and how add-on developers will be allowed to develop for flight and that's the big thing. I doubt many of us would think for a second about continuing to fly FSX or FS9 if we found out we wouldn't be allowed any add ons at all. The add ons from all the great developers is what makes it great. Flight still appears (from a graphics standpoint) to be a step up from FSX and the weather at least looks better. We still dont know anything else for sure, and until then, I will still choose to be optimistic. So many people in this forum seem to strive on misery and spreading discord it's sad. Who cares even if Flight does suck, we still have FSX/FS9/XP with the add ons we love to keep us entertained and learning. So maybe that means I have to by my add on planes from some MS App store that charges an extra fee. That's fine with me, as long as I still have access to the likes of PMDG, FSDT and ORBX. Who cares if it has a bunch of pop-the-balloons games for all the general public. FSX has them too and they dont make the rest of the sim any less enjoyable. (sometimes they can be fun in a goof sort of way)

I just hope we will only have to pay in one go for P3D. By that time I will purchase immediately. :(

You are correct that I'm a developer for Aerosoft, but thats does not mean that I can´t comment !!1. I´m not on Aerosofts payrole as such. I´m a freelance developer, only developing stuff as part of my hobby. Though my main platform for developement is FSX, I have also done stuff for other sims. I have no particular preferences towards any particular platform.FSX is a nice platform, but has it´s limitations and bugs, X-Plane has potential, but still has some way to go before I see it competative to FSX.If MS Flight really surprices me and give me the ability to do stuff for that - then I will do so.2. I would personally really have seen MS Flight as the successor to FSX.3. Though Aerosoft is selling X-plane and see a potential in it, I don´t regard X-plane as the something that can take the lead from FSX - at least not in the near future.4. My comment is just what I personally have seen and read during the past month and the truth very much underlined by these latest news. The whole concept of MS Flight has been told a long time ago, also that 3rd party addons not will be available in MS Flight the way You know it from FSX - thats a fact. All extra content has to be approved and added via MS and no SDK (very essential if You ever will be able to do addons) will be available.Regardless how people see me... be it Aerosoft developer, FSX developer, Flighsim hobbyist - I will never sacrifice my freedom of expression.People can read my inputs and I´m sure that they are old enough to make up their own minds.Finn Jacobsen(Flightsim hobbyist and developer for Aerosoft in my sparetime)
