January 8, 201214 yr @ Matt and Aaron, the list is from the FAA IPH as to what they consider a sample of "SPECIAL AIRPORT QUALIFICATION", if you check out the booklet you'll see it in context, wasn't meant to be an exhaustive list :( Just to add to the others posted here with the added realism that obviously the FAA deem them tricky enough to single them out James Hughes

January 8, 201214 yr Thanks fr the list. However I do not find PAKT very challenging even in bad weather.Aaron G.What weather are you using? PAKT is famous for gusting crosswinds often to 40 kts and recorded at up to 100 kts. Combined with frequent rain/snow/limited vidibitility, it is the weather that makes this place a challenge. While located in a valley, it is a relatively long and open valley meaning the airport itself is not all that odd and for the Candadian rockies and Alaska is even downright mundane as an airport itself.I've flown this several times since Orbx released PAKT in everything from single engine pistons to the NGX using AS2012 and can say at least with this setup, when the weather gets nasty, it gets really nasty.Eric SzczesniakEDIT: To add some more to the list, KJFK VOR 13L/R involve a 90 degree turn on to a 2 NM final, Kai Tak is infamous for it's checkerboard approach (also with great scenery by by FlyTampa), Dutch Harbor is located in a bay surrounded by mountains with frequent icing and low visibility conditions with a modest 3,900' runway and Gibraltar looses some of it's appeal in FSX but is well known to be challenging in real life due to low level turbulence rolling off the nearby mountains. January 8, 201214 yr In my opinion Sion, Innsbruck and Madeira are quite "dangerous". But if you do everything right no approach in the world would be "Dangerous", because in the end if one would be it wouldn't be there.Don't forget aviation is so safe because everything dangerous is getting sorted out pretty fast.Just today was my first approach to Sion (without knowing where I'm going when choosing the destination) and I had one of those "what the f##k have you brought yourself in now" moments. If you're looking for some fun airports or someones with stunning views you can also approach St Martin, Male or London City. Greetings from the 737 flightdeck!
January 8, 201214 yr when your using your charts with a real online ATC at LOWI its the best place to practice on your approaches, i did a flight yesterday at LOWI online with an ATC online while using my charts, he gave me circling to 08 with 3km VISIBILITY its the minimum for this APP i did it with a friend which i think is very important for this kind of APP. yes, this is the most difficult APP i have ever done. January 8, 201214 yr Isn't Bhutan supposed to be pretty nasty? Can't say i've tried it though. Rick Hobbs
January 8, 201214 yr Yeah, Paro (capital of Bhutan) is pretty fun. Run by DrukAir in modded A319s (powered by A321 sized engines I believe) in real life. Boeing also did some demonstration flights in a 737-700 IIRC. John-Alan Pascoe
January 8, 201214 yr Sydney International Airport, Australia (YSSY). You're probably wondering why I say this airport. Simple - the police often have a radar trap set up to catch drivers not concentrating near the runway and if you don't take off and get out of there quick, the Highway Patrol will chase you down in no time!!! January 9, 201214 yr Commercial Member Vagar is one I have done for fun in FSX and is quite challenging in poor weather. Tromso in Norway is also challenging in poor weather. Gibraltar has a short runway and if following real-world procedures with real-world weather can get challenging due to turbulence, wind and proximity to Spanish airspace. For a non-realistic challenge, take your 600 into Saba near St. Maarten. :( Owner, Fulcrum Simulator Controls. fulcrumsim.com facebook.com/fulcrumsimulatorcontrols instagram.com/fulcrumsimulatorcontrols twitter.com/Fulcrum_SC
January 9, 201214 yr Most fun I've had in a long time is the RNP 05 into PSG! Its takes you down a narrow inlet with high terrain in both sides, then you must execute a sharp right turn at less then 950 ft AGL for a .9 mile final. Its a total rush in the NGX. Ryan Syferd (KSEA)
January 9, 201214 yr Commercial Member SBRJ I think probably takes the cake in real life - that runway is so short. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
January 9, 201214 yr You do not need to be in the mountains or in IMC conditions to have a very difficult approach. For example take Lagoon Visual Rwy 8 at TJSJ (San Juan). There was nothing more difficult that I ever tried in FSX. The idea is that you follow localizer to Rwy 10 and in the last moment you do side-step to Rwy 8. An absolute perfect coordination is required in the last seconds or you won't make it. Try it.
January 9, 201214 yr From the IPH (Instrument Procedures Handbook - 4-26 ) available from the FAA's website, here..Which is a brilliant read in general for those with questions, including NGX favourites like ILS/RNAV/RNP/STARs etc etc...http://www.faa.gov/l...dures_handbook/SPECIAL AIRPORTS & COMMENTSKodiak, AK Airport is surrounded by mountainous terrain. Any go-around beyond ILS or GCA MAP will not provide obstruction clearance.Petersburg, AK Mountainous terrain in immediate vicinity of airport, all quadrants.Cape Newenham AFS, AK Runway located on mountain slope with high gradient factor; nonstandard instrument approach.Washington, DC (National) Special arrival/departure procedures.Shenandoah Valley,VA Mountainous terrain. (Stanton-Waynesboro-Harrisonburg)Aspen, CO High terrain; special procedures.Gunnison, CO VOR only; uncontrolled; numerous obstructions in airport area; complex departure procedures.Missoula, MT Mountainous terrain; special procedures.Jackson Hole, WY Mountainous terrain; all quadrants; complex departure procedures.Hailey, ID (Friedman Memorial) Mountainous terrain; special arrival/departure procedures.Hayden,Yampa Valley, CO Mountainous terrain; no control tower; special engine-out procedures for certain large airplanes.Lihue, Kauai, HI High terrain; mountainous to 2,300 feet within 3 miles of the localizer.Ontario, CA Mountainous terrain and extremely limited visibility in haze conditions.I'd definitely add LOWI, PAKT as well as good fun (for sadists ) Missoula to Jackson Hole is cool, especially if you have ORBX CRM/NRM and of course the NGX 600....Ontario is not bad. Fly in there twice a month. In ONT right now and it was blowing wind like crazy. Plus its always haze down there. January 9, 201214 yr Let's see some videos of posters doing these approaches! It's one thing to post about it, and quite another to see what you can do! :( "I am the Master of the Fist!" -Akuma
January 9, 201214 yr KEGE, LSZA, EGLC and NZQN are my favorites so far but I'll have to try some of the others mentioned here. And YSSY for the reasons mentioned above. :(
