B777 - Virtual cockpit only / no 2D panel?

I fully support PMDG on this, VC is all what we need.

IMO the fact that they don`t make the 2D panels is good, it means it would be more realistic flying it and the time till its release would be dramatically cut down, reason being the development team would not have to make the panels

He's right. It's a weird circular motion that happens when you turn the aircraft, even when you fully disable the head motion in FSX.cfg. Ryan commented on this problem once and said it's impossible, as far as he knows, to get rid of this.
Thats strange then, because I've never noticed it my end.I'll look more closely next time I fly, but I certainly haven't come across any movement that would throw your mouse pointer off a click spot.

I don't use the 2D anymore (except for pop ups) so I'm OK with PMDG's design decision. However, in a climbing turn or desent, as you are given a different altitude, I have had the mouse pointer move off the knob.

I checked last night.I see no head movement what so ever, in a turn or at any other time. It's been a while since I disabled head movement, but I recall it's not disabled in the FSX cfg, I recall there was another location that eliminated head movement completely.I may be wrong, as I say it's been a while.

Well, there are other reasons for needing 2D panels - readability for those of us with low vision. Vic & artists did a **superb** job on the NGX - in the 3D view all labels are readable, as are the popups. But, some're not visible from an angle. I'm not sure what EZCO is, but it sounds like it could solve the "I can't locate that switch from this angle, or this angle, or this angle" (if/when I can afford it).The main challenge is the center consoles. When I'm trying to change HUD settings, or NAV radio settings, I switch views and wind up looking at the door, floor, or ceiling for some reason. Then I have to pause, roll the mouse around to try to find the right view, switch back, and unpause. So much for immersion. There are still parts of the upper panel I haven't seen clearly (far upper left and far upper right) in 3D view, because of the angle. There must be some trick I haven't found yet, but I don't know what it is. (I use the posters in the Captain's kit instead).PMDG did a superb job on making everything readable in the NGX (except for the soda cans and the pogo stick!) so I don't have to use the 2D panels as much. In a competitor's 767 I can't make out switch and button labels in any view, with W7's built-in magnifier or third-party magnifiers). So I'm in the minority, and I'd have to give a -1 on the loss of 2D panels, although I understand why.

I would suggest having 2d panels as an add on they could sell after the main release. Those folks that prefer 2d panels could purchase the product at that time. Since PMDG may conclude there effort to create 2d panels may not be cost-effective, the other option is to have someone else develop the 2d panels as payware or freeware. There's no need for folks that prefer VC to convince those that prefer 2d to switch with these options. No militants, no zealots, just flight simulator enthusiasts.David Vega

Why not just only create the 2d panel and sell the VC to the ones that absolutely need the fancy graphics. Surely it takes far more effort to build the VC.

Johan, you're correct. I forgot that option. Those that would prefer 2d panels and get any performance benefits from not having a VC would benefit from this. Thank you. David Vega

Becaus the VC is not a panel, it is part of the model and linked to systems.

VC is more popular then 2D, so why would PMDG focus on 2D and make VC users pay more?bad idea

Why not just create VC panel and sell 2D panel to those that want to live in the past (the idea is obsord).

There is no need to be all childish towards the fellow folks that fly 2d panels theres a number of reasons why people still fly 2d e.g cost some of us out there cant afford a really powerful PC we have more important things like rent and bills plus some may have a family to which i dont think there other half would be much impressed in them spending hunddreads on upgrading there PC for those few extra frames of smoothness in the VC cockpit mode because outside of fs there dont see it like that!, some people suffer from blindess and may not find vc mode comfortable theres plenty of reasons the list go's on so could we all please stop this form of pressure to forget the 2d because we're lving in the past in your eyes.I will be honest though I have been dying for a pmdg quality 777 to be announced and was a tad bit excited once it come true lol but I am one of the folks that can't run a virtual cockpit in a vatsim on approach to egll with scenery unless I'm in 2d mode so i am gutted too see this post but I understand that it's in pmdg's hands and they make decision to best support there development.Paul

That doesnt make any sense, but it doesnt matter. My suggestion was not a serious one, it was simply a way for 2d haters to see how ridiculously selfish their requests for no 2d panel is. Why would anybody, as a VC only user, care if there's a 2d panel or not. Seriously.Dont you 2d haters know that you will go to hell for hoping for this? Pure evil
