March 25, 201214 yr There are some conflicts I have with the features that are requested for replay.Obviously, this could be a completely incorrect assumption. I think most of the posters are saying that Flight is running out of fun because of a lack of missions, but I also get the impression that these individuals haven't been "mission focused" in FSX.I guess, I'm lost in trying to understand why it is okay to fly around without missions in FSX, yet it is now a requirement to continue enjoying Flight? It is just the additional options to create different situations that allows one to create specific scenarios? Are people chasing the AI traffic around the sky? What is FSX giving you as a "mission" that makes it "fun"? (confused)
March 25, 201214 yr It is also in the happy Flight customer interest to hope Flight will acquire simming aspects otherwise, if DLC will sink, it won't be supported anymore as Joshua Howard stated between and over the lines. He also states that Flight DLC has sold more than expected. I tend to perceive the atmosphere among forums instead of listening to marketing stuff.
March 25, 201214 yr I'm very much a realist. Being optimistic doesn't mean that I view the world through rose-colored glasses . . . it just means that I tend to see hope, even when it might be difficult for others to see.I'm also a sailor: "The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.” - William Arthur WardMany are complaining about the wind. Joshua Howard is just expecting the wind to change. The optimist in me knows that Flight can still be saved, but only if Microsoft adjusts Flight's sails. But I'm concerned that Joshua Howard is going to let it sink, due to inaction.Well said. "Even Ozzy's wagging his tail again. Liam who?"
March 25, 201214 yr I realize I am in the minority here at Avsim. That is reflected in the number of my posts vs. the time I have been a member. Generally speaking that is because I had nothing to contribute to the many threads about stuff I have no interest in using or discussing. Most of the regulars on the Avsim forums have done things in FS that I never cared about. So for me, Flight out of the box is everything I have always molded my copy of MSFS into. For me its perfect. I find it a totally immersive experience. Most of all I find it (for the first time in years) FUN. Do I want more? Yes but probably not what most of you want. Will I buy the DLC? Yes, probably more than I need. I sure spent a fortune on FSX DLC and some of it was crap. I don't expect that with the Marketplace. Some of the installers in previous version DLC required walking 13 times around your PC while chanting "Opleaseworkthistime" I don't expect that with the Marketplace either. I'm looking forward to Alaska and a Beaver and/or Twin Otter on floats would be nice, but I am in no rush. I have plenty to keep me busy. March 25, 201214 yr To be fair, I don't think the extreme enthusiasts were ever going to be satisfied for long, as the high level of interest practically guaranteed they would spend more time, and burn through content faster than average. I would call it a kind of burnout; as many have been eating, drinking and breathing flight from the moment it came out, and some of us from even before that! Not that concerning yet, as we all know that the initial stage of flight is aimed at more casual players. If I understand enough to predict some of this, then MS focus groups and etc almost certainly do as well, and will be acting accordingly. After all, we have waited much longer for other more full featured Sims to be usable, and we are still waiting.Less than a month after the release of FSX most people were yelling "FS9 forever!!" :lol:Bingo. If you have 40+ seat hours in Flight (like me), a break will do you good. The theme of this thread is nothing new. I don't care what the game, sim, routine is, repeat with enough frequency and you'll get bored. I've seen it happen over and over again with gamers in particular. It's a mad rush to be the first to get the game, conquer the level, get the achievements, beat the final boss, beat all the n00bs online to a pulp, then within a week of release, they're bored already & impatiently waiting for the next game. When I take a step back and observe, that doesn't look like much enjoyment to me and it's not sustainable for any one game short of releasing new content or expansion packs on a quarterly basis at a minimum.Add some variety to your routing, fly with different people, play a different game, go back to FSX occassionally, whatever suits your needs. Whatever you choose, you're going to have to slow down on Flight in terms of expectations. At any rate, I hope that I have not offended anyone as that is clearly not my intent. I do hope that you continue to find enjoyment in whatever you choose to spend your time with and I look forward to flying with everyone in Flight (or FSX if I could get Gamespy working).Jas Jason BocheDelta Virtual Airlines Assistant Chief Pilot, B767-300
March 25, 201214 yr I've said it before, our time is coming...people will get bored, people will want more out of the game. The average user will want to see the real aviation aspect, and will start demanding more realism from the game. People saw the game, and "were like, oh, it's free, it looks really good, let's get it" They did that, the game ran well on many systems, users were loving it. They decided, let's get more out of the game, "let's buy the rest of Hawaii and these planes because they look like a lot of fun". Then they hit a wall, "well I've done mostly everything that Flight has to offer" Then they go back to playing Call of Duty. Microsoft is going to see this eventually and decide, "well now we have to do something big, something that will really challenge the users. What's most fun and challenging? Learning to use VOR's, learning to fly ILS approaches, learning how to use an NDB, fully learning the capabilities of GPS', Doing an interesting mission where we have to use resort to partial panel because we have a pitot static failure, learning how to get better at Red Bull air races, doing a transatlantic flight just like real pilots do, the list really goes on and on.We will get what we want, again, give it time.

March 25, 201214 yr I love doing the same things in Flight, that I always did in FS... I'm a low and slow fan, nothing I like better than spending HOURS exploring areas just above he treetops. Flying blindly up some canyon, wondering if I'm going to be able to climb out at the end, or have enough room to turn around if I have to. I get tickled when I spot some lake, or barn, or silo, or even an observatory dome I hadn't seen before in some remote area of treetops. This may be why, to me, the missions are ancillary to the game/sim... Delivering the pigs, or cats, or nurse and patient are the destination, the scenery and experience are the journey.Lately I've been flying the Biplane Tour missions mostly, and I never fly straight to the landmarks... I take the long, scenic route that gets me there eventually... and in my own mind game, timing the inevitable 'pee pee break' so that I'm over a stretch of flat land is part of the challenge, and therefore, part of the fun. It's not for everybody, in fact, it's probably not for most... but for me, it's extremely well suited to what I like to do. And I can't WAIT to do more of the same in Alaska!
March 25, 201214 yr That makes, at least, two of us :-)!!!!!!BTW: See my poor performance with FLIGHT and so few flights, by trying my gammer tag - "Von Queca". Maybe we can meet online one of these days!!!!!I wish I could have more time to play it :-(That would be great :) I will add you now and my friend is also here, so we can do jobs together :)I will send you a friend request. My gamer tag is "Turbofolkrolla".See you on the runway :)Cheers
March 25, 201214 yr I have an add-on some of you seem to have deleted: Imagination. We all have imagination. We had to have lots of it to have played FS1 and the like.We should not have to have as much imagination in 2012 as Flight requires, because then where do you draw the line. Just close your eyes and imagine whatever you want. The whole point of a computer game is to immerse you into whatever you are doing, not having to imagine yourself doing it, imho.
March 25, 201214 yr During Beta about a month was what it took to lose my interest with the full addons. I suppose if they came out with a new scenery every 30 days it could be more intersting. Umm 480.00/yr to keep interest :) ArDee
March 25, 201214 yr One thing I have noticed in reading the various Flight related forums is that some people just don't get it. I do not let that interfere with my enjoyment of Flight. Tom Constantine The Old Hangar http://mainescenery.proboards.com
March 25, 201214 yr We will get what we want, again, give it time.I agree with most of what you posted but I think the end result will be instead of getting what we want some suit at MS will say " see we just can't revive this franchise" and they will pull the plug on Flight. MS does not want to take the time and spend the money to create a full fledged simulator, thats why they put a man like Mr.Howard in charge, trust me this well is going to dry up real fast.
March 26, 201214 yr Lockheed Martin has just dropped the price of Prepare3D from 500 dollars to 200 dollarsand are also offering a " Home User " licence for under 50 dollars.Has a price war started between LM and MS ?I just knew 2012 was going to be a very interesting year for flight simulation.Fred Frederic Steiner.
