July 23, 201213 yr Can this please be added to AVSIMS front page so this developer can get the recognition and praise he so highly deserves! There are payware scenery out there that aren't a 1/4 the quality of this. Lets get this man some traffic and hopefully some donations!! July 23, 201213 yr Very pleased with this freeware scenery... Has to be 'The' best freeware scenery I have seen! Very generous developer, In my view this should be payware as the quality is just superb!!
July 23, 201213 yr Can this please be added to AVSIMS front page Agreed. Following on their release of the excellent KPHL for FS9 in 2010, Shez and Ian have once again gifted our community with the product of another two years of hard work. KPHL-X is a masterful rendition of Philadelphia International. Their contribution deserves this kind of recognition and promotion. - Jev McKee, AVSIM member since 2006. There is an explanation as to why not before in the Letters to the Editorial Staff forum per this link: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/380453-why-is-sunskyjets-kphl-for-fsx-not-newsworthy/ Big Congratulations to Ian and staff. July 24, 201213 yr I just completed my first NGX flight from ORD to PHL and it the ADE and GSX seemed to work fine for me. Although I did 2 things before flying there. 1. When I was at KORD I restarted Couatl from the Addon drop down menu and let GSX rebuild its scenery cache which needs to be done anytime a new scenery is added. If the GSX scenery cache is not rebuilt then GSX wont recognize the correct AFCAD file which was probably what went wrong in your circumstance. I think GSX is supposed to rebuild its scenery cache on its own, but sometimes it doesn't so its not a bad idea to do it yourself from time to time to make sure all your airports are loaded correctly and it only takes a second to do so. 2. Moved the GSX .ini file from the PHL scenery folder and placed it in the appropriate hidden GSX folder where the customized airport .ini files go. BTW, I think it was the scenery folder where they placed the .ini file, it could have been the texture file though I dont really remember. But that file needs to go in the GSX customized airports folder for it to work correctly. Aside from that GSX worked fine there although I was parked at A3 the marshaller was hidden behind a building so I had to customized the marchaller position at a max of 5 meters for that spot so he wont be hidden the next time I park there. I seem to be having the same problem. My initial KPHL load puts all the GSX equipement significantly offset from where the aircraft is parked. In fact, GSX still thinks the aircraft is not at the gate, even though it is. I moved the kphl.ini file to the hidden GSX folder: restarted FSX; and restarted the COATL engine, but nothing changed. I also uninstalled and re-installed KPHL, but no luck. Here is my similar post in the FSDT forum http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php?topic=7008.0 Is there a step I'm missing? July 24, 201213 yr This has to be one of the if not the best airports I have ever seen for FSX. I am just baffled that it is freeware, I will be donating as soon as I get a chance (poor college student) but I hope that others donate as well. This deserves a heck of a lot of recognition. R. Dawson
July 24, 201213 yr One of the best unadvertised features of KPHL and is a testament of how long ian spent developing it is that this scenery allows current and former Delaware Valley residents to have a virtual remembrance of one of the most legendary places in Philadelphia history that no longer stands.. The Philadelphia Spectrum; which sadly now rests as a parking lot. I just did a 5 minute long coordinated turn in the 152 looking down at her and remembering the first time I stepped inside her as a kid and looked down her insanely steep upper level steps to see the Circus.. Then later my first Flyers game.. Great place with lots of memories.. July 24, 201213 yr Ah! Only to recall the other visual cues that could have been but also no longer exist in real life. The old Garden State Park, the historical and extensive old horse racing track and complex in Cherry Hill was long the primary visual cue for the turn to final from both inbound approaches to 27. It lost a fight with the bulldozer in late 2003 and is now a much less-descript retail and office area. To have the Walt Whitman bridge, the docks and cranes at the port area, and the sports complex are visual cues that go way further than eye-candy. I wish more sceneries had these key features. Here is an aerial of the former Garden State Park. Unfortunately I could not find one that also shows the adjacent traffic circle aptly named Racetrack Circle. It was the intersection of two major highways. Rt 70 and Rt 38. I believe the traffic circle has also now been removed. Together they were a most significant aviation visual cue. Though this one no longer exists and thus should not have been included, I am so enthused that Ian and his team did built in so many current visual cues into KPHL. What a treat! What a plus for sim flying! July 24, 201213 yr This is a great add on. I really like it. But I do have a question. I have not been able to use "CTRL + J" to move or position the jet ramps. Can someone tell me if this should work? I do not have any other custom airport to test against. At my default airports I am able to move the jet ramps. Thanks, Jim

What a plus for sim flying! Oh man do I remember Garden State Park and wish it still was there. That shopping center that replaced it is a complete nightmare to be in. It's packed, all the time and the main exit dumps you out on Haddonfield Rd which is also always filled with traffic. Cherry Hill is a terrible place to drive now as they crammed it with more and more high end shopping centers, restaurants and built up the mall area extensively..The Racetrack circle is definitely gone.. Cherry Hill and Marlton have pretty much lost all their circles. Ellisburg Circle, Marlton Circle, Racetrack Circle all gone within the past 20 years. They can take the circles from Jersey, I'm ok with that.. Now if they take our jug-handles I'm going to have to fight back a little. ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-E GAMING / i9-9900k @ 4.7 all cores w/ NOCTUA NH-D15S / 2080ti / 32GB G.Skill 3200 RIPJAWS / 1TB Evo SSD / 500GB Evo SSD / 2x 3TB HDD / CORSAIR CRYSTAL 570X / IPSG 850W 80+ PLATINUM / Dual 4k Monitors
July 24, 201213 yr The jetways are static. They were always planning on implementing AES when the FSX version was completed. I wouldn't be surprised to see support in the next version of AES since they have had the FS9 version for a long time. KPHL looks great and it is so amazing that it is freeware. They have been releasing some of the best freeware airports for years. I think Shez's DTW was my first download as a simmer (FS2000) and I can't wait for their next version of DTW. They said in their forum that it is about 1/2 way complete.
