October 28, 201213 yr Hi Cheryl, don't wish to go off on a tangent, but are you guys considering releasing Opus lite, with just a weather engine? It seems there are quite a few guys, including myself, who have Ezdok and only wish to use Opus for weather, otherwise it's effectively paying for something you have no need for, and so makes it rather an expensive addon. Take the extra hour of work, dump EZdok and setup the cameras in Opus. I did. You will love the simplicity compared with the clutter of EZ and you will have a much more elegant solution, including the best WX generator. Some people report performance gain compared to EZ. If you consider the hours flown with EZ up to date, your actual cost per flown hour for converting to a better system I am sure will be negible If the level of support and development of Opus will stay as it is today they will set a new standard that the competition will have problems matching. Incredible that we can get so much for so little money. Og course I am not affiliated with Opus in any shape or form, just another happy customer
October 28, 201213 yr I vowed to only run the weather side of Opus and stick to EZCA. However, last night, I decided to remove EZCA and create a few cameras for my NGX 800. The camera creation is fast and easy. I have since dispensed completely with EZCA and even my TrackIR!! I much prefer using the hat switch to pan around the cockpit views. The TrackIR side was a bit juddery for my liking regardless of my settings.....not only that but a lot of the time, way before Opus began, I have eyestrain from looking out of the corner of my eyes as I moved my head. I did have hatswitch to move eyepoint around and then use my head to move from that point but I have gone off it now. Not using the TrackIR enables me to have a static viewpoint that is only bashed around with the effects of movement due to engine vibration, weather etc. all perfectly linked into the situations provided by OPUS. I don't want to miss these effects due to the TrackIR having a little boogie on its own accord. When the arrow keys are implemented to move around the cockpit and an ability to zoom in/out then it will be perfect. Regarding the cost for me it was £28. I can spend that going out for a meal with the family. I have purchased all iterations of AS and REX but they are now completely gone. I don't think of money I have spent on these as being wasted as at the time they suited me even though I had problems with the weather engines. More of a progression. Out with the old and in with the new. Even my TrackIR is going to be unplugged sometime today! EDIT - Though I suppose I could zoom in/out with FS keys mapped although I can't move the view left and right assigned in FS for some reason. Are the camera points locked by Opus?
October 28, 201213 yr What do I like about OPUS? It does what it claims and the developers offer fantastic support which is very important to me, I have no regrets making the switch, only wish I had done it sooner, it has relit my flame for fsim!
October 28, 201213 yr OK, OK, I'm sold. I must admit, I have never been able to get Ezdok to work with dynamic head movements, and yes, it has always been rediculously clumsy in setting up. BTW, Rich, I'll PM you... BTW, BTW is it possible fellas to setup the Opus cameras with Ezdok still installed, without any conflicting issues? I'd just like to get Opus to work with the cameras before uninstalling Ezdok. No need to uninstall Ezdok, just make sure that you exit it (if you run it automatically with FSX) Then run Trackir and Opus. Bryan.

October 28, 201213 yr I d/led and installed OpusFSX yesterday and after an install glitch which I got corrected, I was impressed with the proper weather depiction. I made a flight from KLGA to KMIA and saw the effects of Sandy. I flew for a long while above a dense cloud layer which cleared as I reach south Fla. The only thing that could have been better was to have the proper winds at FL330. I know that this is on the way though. So no grief on my part. The only thing that bothers me is the gyrations you have to go through to get TrackIr to work. I don't care to rename files just to use Opus and then go back and rename them again to us TrackIr in another sim. Hopefully Opus can come up with something to change this. For the time being, I have to fly without TrackIr because I'm not going through the file name change process. Please correct me if the above statement is no longer valid. I'm just going by what's in the manual. Thank you. In any event Trackir works just fine with other simulators, for example, I had a game of IL2 Cliffs of Dover last night with the renamed Trackir manifests files, worked just fine. Bryan.
October 28, 201213 yr Commercial Member Graham, We don't lock the camera points, have you tried using mouse look, there is further info in our FAQ. Vincent, It can be networked, everything is controlled from the server. Howard, You can run the EZCA utility to tidy up the files before trying OpusFSX. Regards Cheryl
October 28, 201213 yr For you folks that have set up the cameras option, are you talking about making new camera views on default aircraft (which already come with default views) or are you making new views on 3rd party aircraft? I'm going to have to go back and re-read the instructions once more as I did encounter some difficulties in trying to create views on the first attempt. I hope someone will consider putting together a You Tube video to help with the process.

Just go to the exe.xml in \Users\(your username here)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX and change the EZCA entries from True to "False" and EzDok won't load. that way you can keep Ezca on your system until you're sure you're happy. October 28, 201213 yr Thanks for starting this thread. Indeed, this software is excellent. I just spent over two hours comparing it with one freeware and two payware WX programs doing ILS approaches at Newport News, VA where things are getting interesting! No doubt about it, OPUS presented the smoothest, most realistic depiction of what is truly going on there PLUS the overcast was, gee, really an overcast, not a see-through fog layer. This was with the trial version but I'm surely going to purchase the full package. Great job OpusFSX folk!
