Well I do have to laugh at the strong views both ways here. Word Not Allowed always seemed like a great guy to me but it isn't like he has been banished from the Matriarch of Flight Simming... He got kicked out of one forum, the internets is a great big place... His blog got free exposure, which I had no clue existed before this article... It happens move on or move out.

So now only a female can bring balance to the Force? Oh boy, what about the ones with alternative lifestyles? We will also need their representation in the AVSIM "Senate"...

Yes, I guess that you are right, Tom. But I think that it is a shame that in the US, corporations (not you) can use the fear of litigation to apply censorship to prevent criticism of their possibly "illegal" policies. I realize that your decision to ban Word Not Allowed may have been unavoidable, but (just second-guessing here) I personally would have preferred that you had avoided using the "unmentionable" reason already mentioned. OTOH thanks for beng frank about it.

 

Welcome to this wonderful country of ours. A place where lawyers and money run the entire country. You can't say anything any more for fear of hurting someone's feelings or being politically incorrect or the list goes on and on. Even on a hobby forum like this, you still aren't free to say what you want because there is a scum lawyer out there somewhere or a sad human being that is trying to make a quick buck by using this pathetic legal system that we have here to their advantage...Just last week, I heard on the radio that a girl in Arizona is suing match.com(online dating service) for $10 million because she went out on a date with someone and he threatened to kill her. So, in this wonderful country, you can do that. Because it's match.com's fault. That is just ridiculous. That girl should be removed from this planet...she is no better than the guy that threatened her. In this country, it's always someone else's fault for your mistakes. No one takes ownership for their actions. There's always someone else to blame.

 

Anyway, sorry for that sidetrack. But still, back to the point, the legal system is a joke here. Avsim, is it possible to just have a disclaimer saying that you aren't responsible for anything said here and then we can have free speech? Just curious. I'm assuming there's some wonderful legal reason as to why that's not possible. Because, I'm sure in some way, someone would be able to find a way to sue you for something completely ridiculous - like spilling hot coffee on yourself and then saying it's McDonald's fault because they didn't tell you coffee was hot.

 

I'm not taking either side here. I understand Word Not Allowed broke rules that had to be in place in order to play nice with the lawyers. It's just a shame that it has to be this way to begin with.

I'm getting really paranoid now. Anyone could be Word Not Allowed, you could be Word Not Allowed Mr Bimmerkop. And all banned members could be infiltrating our ranks as we speak, with a secret identity. They could have infiltrated Avsim Administration, or even the US government.

I can't believe some of the post here, nothing personal about Word Not Allowed as I hardly exchanges post with him BUT because he was good at what he was doing and he helped a lot of you in the hardware's forum (wondering how many of you have P3D and were welling to use products not allowed in it by the developers?) he does not have to play by the rules????

 

I guess the rules can be bend iF one can help another member on how to NOT follow the developer's wishes on how to use their products....and that's where the problem is.

 

So about Lance Armstrong, just because he was doing some good things like having a foundation for cancer, raising millions to help others we should give him a pass on his "not playing by the same rules as others with banned substances", why not give him another chance since we are at it ....seriously, it's not like he did not know what the rules were did he, unless YOU were profiting money wise on Lance's success I guess it's ok to turn a blind eye and screw everything else?
