...if the details were not expressed in the first post the amount of speculation, doubt and anger would be huge and worse than it is now...

Fair enough, but maybe this has run its course. A lot of people have had the chance to express themselves. On the other hand, as others have pointed out, Word Not Allowed isn't able to make his own case. After five pages of comments, we may be getting into diminishing returns. I'd vote for a lock at this point.

I'm thankful for Avsim and the work that it's staff members put in, mostly thanklessly over the years, but sad to see a member who has made many valued contributions over the years be "put out to pasture" as it were. That's about all there is to say on this matter, the disciplinary action has already been decided and enforced so what's done is done. Maybe Word Not Allowed will decide to apologize and change his tone, and maybe Tom et al will agree to let him come back as a member only but that remains to be seen.

On a much more important note: Paul, may God bless you and your family and comfort and strengthen you during this time.

This was not political

I disagree.

A private governance issue which has become public is definitely 'politics'.

I am shocked by this announcement. While I do not refuse to believe the original post, I have not experienced or observed any of the inappropriate behavior described.

From personal experience—which consisted of e-mail and forum communications and reading and recommending his tweaking approach—Word Not Allowed was only attentive, courteous, eager-to-help, knowledgeable, and thorough. From these experiences, I viewed him and his contributions in the highest regard, even nominating him for the Readers' Choice Lifetime Achievement Award "for his consistent participation and presence in the forums, contributions to flight simulator performance enhancement, and thorough attention to individual questions". However, from the specificity of the original post and its responses, logic suggests that some or all of the accusations against Word Not Allowed may be accurate, in which case a long-term suspension would only be appropriate.

I hope a compromise can be reached. To preserve the Management's intention not to reevaluate the permanent suspension, perhaps it can permit one final statement from Word Not Allowed. Silencing such a dedicated and prominent community member without giving him an opportunity for "last words" seems incomplete and slightly unfair.

As others have mentioned, best wishes to Paul and his family during such heavy times. May these ultimately petty disputes not distract him from his mental recovery.

As others have mentioned, best wishes to Paul and his family in such heavy times.

Amen to that.

I'm out, so to all of you good night and I will read your post tomorrow morning.

Hi,

Sad day for the flight sim community, Word Not Allowed was a lot of things, being knowledgable was one of them. It's a loss no matter how you look at it.

In reading back through the OP, I was saddened to hear what Paul was/is going through. Paul, I'm very sorry to hear of your loss and of your wife's illness. My condolences to your family during this time.

My two cents, take it with a grain of salt.

While Word Not Allowed was very knowledgable i agree that his people skills were not as good.

More then once I thought he was quite rude to some members (not to me) and I found when he was a mod it got worse.

While he was obviously knowledgable I feel there are other people who are as knowledgable and more kind/patient.

So having said all that I think we will all be able to move on with little change. Avsim is the same with or without Word Not Allowed

Regards

Lee

Edit: so I don't really see how it's a sad day for the flightsim community. Word Not Allowed was not the only knowledgable member of our community there are others here at Avsim.

I just hope the community doesn't suffer too much in the end.

No, in fact things will become a lot friendlier. A plus too is we have a very extensive hardware guide. You can find it under the Content tab > FSX Tweaks. Or by clicking here: http://forum.avsim.net/fsx_guide.pdf

I disagree.

A private governance issue which has become public is definitely 'politics'.

I see you don't understand the reasoning behind this announcement was to enlighten the public to our decision as to avoid any conspiracy theories. He had many chances, too many chances, to fix it--and he didn't. That was his choice and we won't accept it.

so I don't really see how it's a sad day for the flightsim community. Word Not Allowed was not the only knowledgable member of our community there are others here at Avsim.

Precisely. And it would make you sick, as it did me, to read how he tried to use his "celebrity" here to request special exemptions from the rules and for a blind eye to be turned. As Stephen so truthfully stated, this guide he authored was a culmination of many people's tweaks and suggestions.

Again, compromises have been made for over a year. We've extended way too many chances and have little hope that the "zebra will change its stripes" so to say. In one breath he would agree to not do something, and within minutes break his word. Many times over.

Sincerely,

Chase
