Kosta Banned by AVSIM

Clearly you have no idea the power and authority our AVSIM admins come from in the real world. As Tom said, how do you know where we come from? Just because we don't tell you what we do with our personal lives....

The same rings true for some of our powerful yet discreet members here at AVSIM. You never know who is among you, and it may just surprise you.

Chase, I think you misunderstood me...let's see, this guy made a very judgmental comment about 'administrators being egotistical maniacs' and I thought it was really inappropriate. I was standing up for all you moderators and making a statement about his name calling and labeling. Sorry if you got it mixed up...meanwhile,

Paul J, thanks very much for your excellent contributions and I am sorry for your loss.

this reply scared me

What people SHOULD be scared of is embarrassing themselves in front of some very, well, people you wouldn't want to embarrass yourself in front of. If you are a turkey trying to soar with eagles, it is not going to help you to act like a turkey that thinks it is an eagle, with the eagles looking on.. If you catch my drift...

Paul, very sorry for your loss and wish your wife the best...

Tom, would you listen to yourself? ........... Sorry but you are one guy who is seriously living some dillusions of grandure. You run a flight sim forum for the lord's sake Tom .... you're not curing cancer. I teach kids with severe learning disabilties due to brain injuries and serious head traumas ...... some of you guys should come along for the day and get some perspective.....

So help me out; who are the "turkeys" in this analogy (I guess that you're the Eagle)...

And Chase, do every day people here care whether some of the staff (and members) are 'powerful' outside the forum? ....... I mean 'powerful' to one person may be insignificant to someone else.

This thread is a bad indictment of some boys who are real serious about defending their playhouse .... I never, ever play the gender card, but you need some sensible females around here to balance the male egos that are out of control.

..........ban me if you need to guys, or if this post threatens to institution here.

Isn't a permanent ban a bit hard? How about a twmporary ban and reassess the picture after a few months. Perhaps giving him a few months off the forum will give him some perspective.

When I was younger, an active member of another flightsim community, and not as disciplined as I am today, I openly criticized a forum moderator and he slapped me with a 30 day ban. I also got a 30 day ban here a few years back for something I said that apparently upset a mod who was pretty notorious for knee-jerk reactions. In both instances it was difficult for me to be ostracized for those months. Flight-simming is an important part of my life and participating in communities that share my passion is just as important as the flying. Anyway, after two terms in the pokey, I guess I learned a lesson.

That said, imposing a permanent ban on Word Not Allowed, which is akin to a "death sentence", seems more than a bit extreme. Considering how very much he has contributed here I have to believe that community participation is at least as important to him as it's been for me. Couldn't a 60 or 90 day ban be just the kick in the pants he needs to reflect on his attitude and behavior, and, if he wants back in, to make some changes in the way he deals with both people and the rules. Maybe he's going through a rough patch in his own life, and we all know how inappropriate we can become when we're heavily stressed.

So, I'm left with the question, doesn't the crew running AVSIM believe in rehabilitation? And if not, why not?

It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven

Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest:

It blesseth him that gives and him that takes."

Wow, you totally took that in a direction that I didn't intend. But, thanks for reading into it more than was intended and making some really stretch assumptions. You have been here all of 9 days and you are judging 17 years of our way of running AVSIM. And, at 62, I kind of take offense at your CONDESCENDING "boys" statement.

Flightsim would be terrible without AVSIM. I don't envy having to run this joint bit I'm glad it's here. I've managed not to get banned in the many years I've been here. Being as, according to my wife, I'm an idiot it must not be to hard to follow set rules and protocols. But maybe I'm just old fashioned. The conspiracy theories are fun to read though. AVSIM WAS THE SHOOTER ON THE GRASSY KNOLL.

Wow, did I miss the part where we paid to be members here giving us a right to express our opinions as to how this site should be run. I honestly don't remember paying any dues or membership fee.

Get over yourselves people. Posting and interacting here is a privilege, not a right. Act like a jerk in a bar, you get tossed out, cause a disturbance in a mall, you may go to jail, be ignorant to people, your likely to get banned. Break the rules long enough, you could be banned for life, so be it. Not like he wasn't warned.

What is you folks don't seem to get? Don't like it, go elsewhere, the mods and management are more than fair here, with everyone. The rope is only so long though, and rightfully so. Ever spent any time at a Xplane site, the org., you have nothing to complain about here.

Good for the administrators and management, no doubt the right decision was made.

p.s. Paul, sorry to hear about your loss.

It is your site as others have said and I guess you can do what you want with it. But IMHO, banning someone for mostly for encouraging the violation of a EULA that is highly controversial and may violate a number of laws and user rights is understandable but shows that your first priority is catering to your corporate members (so what should we expect?). The fact that LM has not sued anyone for violating the EULA is an indication that it may not stand the test of going to court. you should have fired him ONLY for abusing his power and not being a team player, but the EULA reason is really censorship.

LOL, Ben.... You remind me of Edgar Allen Poe. Everything you write is like reading a sad story.

banning someone for mostly for encouraging the violation of a EULA

Henri, keep in mind that Avsim has to protect itself in this case. The EULAs that were being violated weren't the ones from LM, but from other publishers who forbid the use of their product in P3D.

Sad that it came to this, but Avsim can't allow legally actionable acts to be condoned.

Edit: facilitated. Thanks, Ben. :)

Seems unfortunate but somewhat true. Although, it is Avsim policy so we have to respect the rules in the community.

If they were not to enforce EULA rules, who's to say that they should enforce piracy rules? You see why they have to cover for themselves? - Any big FS company could sue Avsim for facilitation of illegal activities.
