I was just looking at the MORAs on a flightplan. I'm assuming these are not real because it lists the MORA on a leg between HLC and KD48U as 11600. This would take you right in to the Sangre de Cristo range if this altitude were used in an emergency (the jeppesen MORA is 16500). If it's not using the real numbers for these MORA data it would, in my opinion, be better to have the option to not show them. Anyways, you've done a great job on this! Thanks!

I have been using this for 3 days now in the NGX, I have been flying all over the US and it really really works great. The fuel burns for the 738 profile is a little heavy on the fuel but Im sure they can fix it. I'm not buying PFPX anymore, no need too.

bennyboy75: I'm not yet aware of any bugs with the altitude selections, but it's definitely possible. Note that if you were flying a NAT track, it is possible that the system chose an altitude that would normally be incorrect for direction of flight. NAT tracks operate differently with regards to altitude selection. If ever you don't want the system to override your altitude selection, simply uncheck the "Plan Stepclimbs" option. Note that you can also plan your own stepclimbs by defining them in your Route (i.e. JFK BOS/N0450F350 PQI).

 

With regards to the Q400 fuel figures, you'll have to get back to me on that one, but I think the Q400 is one of the better aircraft simulations the SimBrief system offers. I had access to several real world flight plans and references for the Q400 during development so I was able to get the numbers pretty close. Still, let me know if you have reason to believe this isn't so and I'll look into it further.

 

GrahamBu: You are correct, the MORA is actually based on the altitude of the terrain directly under the waypoint, rather than the actual safe altitude for that segment. It's one of the few portions of the system that I wasn't able to simulate properly. It's on the todo list, if I can find a terrain model to use that has enough resolution. Right now all I have is model containing terrain altitudes every 0.5 degrees of latitude/longitude, which is far from precise enough to calculate a proper MORA.

I have been using this service for two days now and wish to express my sincere gratitude for your hard work Derek, as well as your decision to make it freeware!

 

I built four long haul trips planning out of Australia, Singapore, Zurich etc, and I am very impressed by the results and the thoroughness of the info provided (16 pages of briefing!!!), especially after using real world flight plans picked on Flight Aware easily transferred to your software and then on Aivlasoft, this is superb, easy to use and certainly most complete for my needs (at least mine!).

 

I am aware of your willingness to further improve your service with some of the requests already mentioned and for that too you should be thanked. We shall remember that when the Avsim awards voting will come!

NAT tracks are explained in the User Guide http://simbrief.com/system/guide.php About 1/4 of the way down the page.

 

edit: I have just tried with the route "CPT UL9 DIKAS UL180 LESLU SOMAX NATF JOBOC N16A SAILE PLYMM" and it works perfectly. All waypoints from the NAT added to the FP without a hitch.

For freeware, this is nothing short of spectacular and I whole-heatedly applaud the author for such a generous gesture. I agree completely that a donation-ware model would be appropriate.

 

However, I think comparisons with PFPX are somewhat wide of the mark and are a probable result of the deep-seated frustration at the stumbling PR-management by that apps developers.
