  1. Hello All Not sure if anyone of you have had the same issue as I have had. While I use AS2012 (an amazing weather programme) it does not give me the maps and data which an airline pilot would normally have access to. I have come across a website which looks to have a bucket load of information about weather, possible turbulence and it covers areas outside the USA. Most importantly the site overlays weather information over North Atlantic Tracks (updated daily as are the tracks). Here is the link http://www.turbulenceforecast.com/ Hope you find it as helpful as I have over the past few days with planning my flights and knowing when I am going to hit the bad stuff during one of those long haul flights. Kimberly Richmond-Jones Ps. I have no connection or affiliation to the above listed website.
  2. Hi Everyone, First I do apologise if this has been discussed previously, but I cannot seem to find some direct answers regarding this beautiful aircraft. So please don't bash me! I fly the PMDG 737-800 NGX with FS2Crew sound on Vatsim. I have 3 questions: 1- When taxing from gate to runway or vice versa, I do have the charts, but it gets a bit unclear if you are on the default airport and at night, is there any add on that can help? Apart from buying airport add on, something that could say you enter the taxi ways and it kind of directs you like a GPS or something? What do you guys usually do, only printed charts? 2- Planning.. I have only been properly flying few routes, I tried Sim Routes but it doesn't have all the routes, Is there any tutorials I can find/buy to get more details about routes and waypoints? I like the tutorial 1 that came with PMDG, very clear, EGKK - EHAM. 3- This is pretty random, say you are at FL 230, could you get wind speed up to 98knots? Again I do apologise if the has been discussed before (which am sure it has).. I do appreciate any input. Khaled
  3. For all people out there how have a jailbroken iDevice, I found a new app on Cydia called FMC Planner. This app lets you plan a flight according to the different sections of a FMC. The app also has Dropbox support. The app works on all devices running iOS 5.0 or higher. A valid copy of PMDG's 737 NGX for FSX is needed, cause the apps data is based on the -600,-700,-800 and -900 model of PMDG.
  4. Hi all, I am currently flying the Aerosoft's Airbus serie IAE engined aircrafts and for a while now, I have decided to became a more sophisticated flight planner as well. The first thing I've done was to install PFPX and in time I learned quite a lot from it. It gives me pleasure to use it but I cannot use TOPCAT with PFPX, (I did not even buy it) since it doesn't support any Aerosoft aircraft. So I wonder if you have some advices of any alternatives to TOPCAT. Also there is a performance sheet printing feature in the aerosoft's Airbus as well and I cannot be sure if such an add-on is really necessary for realism. I am waiting for your advices. Best regards, Enis
  5. Hello Everyone- Does anyone have any suggestions for a way to do fuel calculations for the 737NGX? I have found this one (http://fuel.aerotexas.com/). However, it does not appear to be that accurate and you can't enter in load info, etc. -Thanks
  6. Hi, I just purchased the -300ER expansion for my PMDG 777 using P3D earlier this evening. Works and looks really great. First flight attempt for me is KSFO-NZAA. Basically, I use PFPX + TOPCAT together and figure out my fuel planning, it works great with the -200. I am aware that there is no -300ER extension for TOPCAT, so please let me know if my issue is caused by this. So, for my flight...; I just let PFPX find the route automatically, and then entered a random ZFW as I always do, followed by setting up ETOPS. For the ETOPS, I don't think I am 100% correct but I try to use the lowest ETOPS time possible (I have a couple of them I set up in the menus, 120min,240min,etc) and use the recommended airports until I get coverage over the entire ETOPS portion of my route. This time, I got a message saying I was way overweight... long story short, even with 0 payload, my KSFO-NZAA flight is overweight using my ETOPS setup. I ended up just disabling ETOPS for this flight, and adding a random ZFW. Here were the numbers that PFPX gave me. EMPTY WEIGHT 167,829 PAYLOAD 52,171 ZERO FUEL WEIGHT 220,000 // 237,700 MAX FUEL 126,987 // 145,523 MAX RAMP WEIGHT LIMIT 346,987 // 352,400 MAX TAKE-OFF WEIGHT 346,477 // 352,400 MAX LANDING WEIGHT 240,591 // 251,290 MAX UNDERLOAD 5,413 // LIM RMP So here is my question: How does the real flight do it? According to flight aware, it is currently airborne using a 77W (which is the same as the -300ER as far as I know) and I don't think they can "avoid" ETOPS in real life... My ETOPS planning, after several attempts, still added 40 000 KG of fuel to my flight (which is probably where my mistake is), making me overweight. I thought maybe my PFPX didn't have the right numbers for the -300, but they seem very correct. It had estimated I would arrive in NZAA with about 20k KG of fuel, and my FMC currently indicates I'll be there with 25k KG. I know the TOPCAT part doesn't have the proper numbers, but the fuel planning of PFPX should. Everything matches up with the numbers I found on Wikipedia. I know this is more of a PFPX / planning question than a PMDG777 one, but if anyone more knowledgeable than me, please let me know why I can't even fly the route with 0 payload without being overweight. Thank you very much! Regards,
  7. Hello. I've been simming for near enough half my life now, but one thing I've never really been able to get to grips with it Trans-Atlantic flights. I don't know where to find tracks, how to request clearance for it (I fly on Vatsim near enough always), ETOPS planning, I know nothing about it, but I'd really love to do it. So, my request is, can someone write a short dummies guide on how to find the active tracks, how to put them in the FMC or MCDU, expected conversations with ATC, how to calculate ETOPS alternates, etc etc. Thanks in advance, Alexander.
  8. After years of work, I'm pleased to announce that the most in-depth freeware flight planning tool ever developed, "SimBrief", is now available for use! Planning a scheduled flight for a major airline is a complicated task with many factors to consider. In order to maximize efficiency, major airlines around the world employ specially trained Flight Dispatchers. Using specialized flight planning software, they check weather, select a route, make fuel calculations, choose suitable alternates, and check current NOTAMs to ensure the flight is conducted as safely and efficiently as possible. Once the dispatcher has completed their calculations, they use their flight planning software to generate a detailed "Operational Flight Plan" for use by the airline's pilots, who benefit from having all the pertinent data for their flight in one complete package. SimBrief effectively simulates the Flight Dispatcher's role, allowing virtual pilots to generate in-depth Briefing Packages containing the same layout and data as the ones used by real airline pilots every day. SimBrief is capable of generating flight plans which include: A detailed waypoint listing (i.e. Navlog) Accurate performance and fuel calculations for over 50 aircraft types Fuel figures satisfying all legal requirements, such as reserve and alternate fuel Step climb planning based on actual aircraft weight In depth ETOPS calculations, including entry, exit, and equal time points between ETOPS alternates Selection of suitable destination and ETOPS alternates based on current weather forecasts Real world weather and winds aloft forecasts Real world NOTAMs provided by the FAA A link to prefile the generated flight on VATSIM in just a few mouse clicks All you provide is the departure, destination, and route, and the SimBrief system calculates the rest! A sample flight plan can be viewed here: http://www.simbrief.com!
  9. Hi Everyone! I am new to flying the 707 (Captain Sim) in FS2004 and I would appreciate some help on Fuel planning!. As you know there isn't much information out there on the 707 and I cant use Fuelplanner.com because they don't have values for the 707. So basically I need someone to help me find a method of how to calculate how much fuel I need for my journeys in this plane. Help is Appreciated! Kriss
