Orbx is up to something.

I am all for the last one. Just tried to match a small patch of photoreal to an ORBX region, the contrast and darkening killed the quality of the image.

I have to turn the brightness on my HDTV monitor up to 80%(!) to get PNW to look right.  It looks great there but it would be far better if they would brighten stuff up a lot.

Funny, I don't find that to be a problem. I usually sim in the dark, so I end up turning down brightness most times... My 40" TV is usually on 30-35% brightness.

The most realistic setting would be if brightness of the ground followed the weatehr and time of day, but sadly it doesn't do that very well. ORBX textures looks about right for an overcast day, but might be a bit dark for a bright sunny day.

Come on guys, we have some time before the announcement's announcement is out,
Let both sides plan their strategy and warm up!

Exactly, it is to gloomy for me which works for Alaska and even the PNW, but not the southern states. This is why I don't want FTXG, can't imagine that same gloomy feeling in Alaska also in Florida.

A few weeks ago, in response to a speculative post about the possibility of improved vector roads, John Venema said ' watch this space'. Can't find the thread now, but thats my guess.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

wouldn't mind lending J V's Brain for half an hour(sure he wouldn't mind)

That way i'd know everything and could leave the speculation to everyone else

i met an American guy the other day and believe it or not he was a brain surgeon.was that Fate??

......or if not, a global coastlines enhancement......... which I would LOVE.

Probably, but this is not the announcement. I am sure that when it comes, you can have a field day accusing them of having all sorts of nefarious plots. Why spoil it by doing it now?

Lol classic!

OMG anything to replace UTX. It had its day, but that day has come and gone imo.

Yes, that was in a topic I started about vector data (roads, waters). So it wouldn't surprise me if this is it.

An anouncement of an anouncement ... isn't it a little childish? Anyway, looking forward to it.

Vector data using OSM is landclass right? Or is my thoughts of what vector data is completely wrong?

Not completely, just slightly. OSM data contains zones which define residential/commercial/field/water body/etc which is landclass. The road data (ie starting point, length, type, direction) is vector data. The two can be seperated and be kept independant as needed. To date JV had only been talking about the landclass which defines how the area should be represented.

Considering NickN's approach (and therefore in someways Flight1) to FTXG and the trouble caused (whether valid or not) I could see JV bringing out a vector product to completely seperate himself/FTX from Flight1. Giving the proverbial middle finger to an instigator of angst - a much better reply than getting verbal across different forums.

For all I care ORBX can just take over the entire scenery world. I like the graphical quality of their scenery (I have since VOZ for FS2004) and like not having to worry if one scenery will play well with other scenery. However before that happens I'd really like to see the following:

- Lower prices!

- A software to purchase, download, update, install and uninstall all their products. Their current way of doing things is abysmal and not worthy of a software company operating in 2013.
