December 3, 201312 yr I haven't been this excited about a weather program since the original Active Sky was released years ago. I will getting this on release day. That was indeed a long time ago lol ;-) André
December 3, 201312 yr I was a big fan and supporter of ASE back in the day and it is still a solid weather program. But I gave Opus a shot and the weather depiction is great and UI was simple with some great features. But now I am pretty convinced that FSGRW is hands down the best weather app out right now. Easy to use, low footprint, fast loading, solid UI, great weather depiction and turbulence. Well, I can't comment on Opus because I never used it, but as far as ASN goes, SOLID ( rock ) UI, fast loading, easy use ( excellent GUI ), and the best weather modelling I have ever tried with FSX is something I can say anyone willing to give it a try will find. After all one can test for a period and decide... December 3, 201312 yr As much as I'd love realistic and good weather engines both REX and Active Sky has become too complex. The wealth of options is a bit overwhelming for some of us. Improved usability and easy to understand explenation of all parameters within the program (not needing to consult a manual) would be nice. I have to agree. I just want a program that loads quickly, is simple to use, and just works out of the box. FSGRW has done this and I am really looking forward to the big update in January. I will keep an open mind to ASN, but it will have to prove itself in the field before I'm sold. December 4, 201312 yr With ASN, once I've selected the setup options after a fresh install of the program, I simply run the program (usually with realistic weather as my preferred choice)...no more options, settings, or choices to make. Of course, since I want weather and winds aloft information for my flightplan, I enter that plan to access a detailed briefing for the entire route. If I'm simply flying GA aircraft or VFR, then that's not usually necessary. I feel for developers in this respect - if they present a simple interface with limited options, users will cry for more. If instead, the developers provide lots of configurable options, then some users will cry for less. Life in the flight sim world, I suppose. Regardless, ASN has proven to be both simple and detailed...enough so in both regards to satisfy this user...but then, I'm biased. Oh...and the release date has been announced! December 4, 201312 yr Commercial Member With ASN, once I've selected the setup options after a fresh install of the program, I simply run the program (usually with realistic weather as my preferred choice)...no more options, settings, or choices to make. Isn't there an option for ASN to automatically load any plan which is loaded into FS? (OpusFSX can do this and I asked for it in ASN). That would save you using the ASN interface at all once it is all started. And if you change your plan it should read the revised one, so coping well with successive flights in the same session.. December 4, 201312 yr Yes there is, Pete...it's on the General Options list under Settings. Wayne KlocknerUnited Virtual

If instead, the developers provide lots of configurable options, then some users will cry for less. Life in the flight sim world, I suppose. Spot on, Wayne. I watched this as Opus evolved, for example. To start, users praised the simplicity of the interface as compared to other offerings, but wanted "just this one thing, if you could please...". In time, some users started to criticize the complexity. Very much looking forward to this release and seeing what's been done. Scott
December 4, 201312 yr Great news about the imminent release. Kicking myself that I just bought AS2012 in September, when I should have gotten it 2 years ago, because until recently I was convinced it was only ASE with a weather graphics package tacked on which I don't need. But I'm happy to see a discount for the upgrade. A.J. Domingo

Regards Pete There is indeed, as an option :-). Also. most of the time you aren't going to use an FSX-based flightplan, but rather some flightplan generated externally with some dedicated flight planning software, and introduced into your FMC. December 4, 201312 yr Also, most of the time you aren't going to use an FSX-based flightplan, but rather some flightplan generated externally with some dedicated flight planning software, and introduced into your FMC. Which in most cases also exports a default FS Flight Plan as well (if you wish) which ASN can use. Cheers, Andy.
