Prepar3d V2.0 entering beta

Featured Replies

If P3d 2.0 was a movie, it would be shown only at one of those small neighborhood theaters that screen obscure Indie films. If anything, LM has done very little promotion or "hyping" of the new release. The reason is, is that it will sell itself to the target audience.

About the only place I would expect to see P3D promoted by Lockheed would be in professional trade magazines or conventions.

I attended the Sea-Air-Space Expo this year and was hoping to see Prepar3d shown at an LM booth and maybe even get to talk to somebody involved with it, but either they weren't there or I just missed it.

I see that V2 will have a new weather engine including new 3d volumetric clouds and fog. This means that we may see a new version of REX or Active Sky solely designed for P3D V2 ...Coupled with Opus weather, it's going to be amazing ! Them 3d clouds  B)

SO what else is new? This is exactly like FSX in that there are minimum systems and there are super systems. P3D will run best on the super systems with all the bells and whistles. It will STILL run on the lesser systems but not at maximum. Same old, same old. Why are we getting our proverbiual panties in a bunch.

I'm sure my second system with a 980X at 4.4 and a GTX480 will run P3D quite well. No need to run out and buy a 780 unless I am dissatisfied.

Active Sky and REX are both beta testers. I've heard Active Sky Next is going to use a lot of the new weather features (and take advantage of fixes) in V2.

Gonna be cool.

You are absolutely correct. That would result in some ugliness, I am sure.

You have to wonder about the intelligence of some people though Tom.  For a while yesterday, a semi regular user posted the links to the 2.0 beta screenies on the P3D OPEN FORUM itself! They were quickly removed but it does make me scratch my head. I guess some folks do not comprehend the meaning of an NDA.

I've not seen any hype from LM!

Yes people are excited, their is some hope for the future. It has the potential to be FSX with wings. FSX has reached its potential. Theirs nothing more to give.

If we were to calculate the hardware cost vs the percentage performance/graphical improvement gain I'm sure it would not be financially viable to spend more money on FSX. Throwing money at FSX is a game of diminishing returns. I wonder if I would even dare to calculate the cost per FPS that i have spent on FSX.

More features and improvements in graphics will be a boost to performance in vanilla P3D. Without any cost, apart from the initial cost of the programme.

To increase the visual quality and performance in P3D will cost. However, I believe the cost vs benefit will be instantly noticeable and the amount of money will be much easier to justify and will be lighter on the wallet than FSX has proved to be over the years.

I agree with you.

Was just playing devil's advocate. I think most here are level headed and are gonna be very happy with what we get. It's not gonna be BF4 for flight sims but it will be a large step forward, add a ton of new features to carry into the future, and it's going to keep being developed.

That's all we can ask for in such a niche genre.

I liked to know the answers to these Alain, and I am sure everyone else here would too.

Five hours later and no response... Maybe the neighbors down in Ft. Lauderdale are having a late brunch, trying to figure out how to get out of this pickle?

Truth be told, Alain is just parroting what's been written in a payware forum, by a developer who has a vested interest to slow down any movement towards P3D, unlike their competition who has embraced P3D.

Funny how the twisted little "exaggerations" all build up to ensnare those pushing their agendas.

You don't have the hifi banner anymore. Not a beta tester now?

I for one do not understand why LM would insist on  an NDA since they really have no competitors at this point.

I guess they dont want people to expect something that may have ot be downgraded due to conflicts unbeknownst.

Hi all and just my 2 cents.

If P3D gives me the same things I have with 1.4 plus dynamic shadows and DX11 support, and it gets rid of microstutters, autogen popping and blurries, then I'm a happy flyer.

I think odds are I will be happy.

Maybe they don't want to give Aerosoft any new ideas.......

It's par for the course.    NDA's are around for everything.

My guess for this is so that unfinished features are not widely talked about.   Things are never the best when they are not finished so it can't be the best marketing if people are running around saying how feature x isn't too good yet.

Features in the beta might not be in the final release, time pressures etc.

Sure, we who are not in the beta would like to know but it's nothing that hasn't happened with many software developers.
