November 2, 201312 yr Hi all i did some tests and i have about 90 fps in cockpit, but when i run UT2 fps drop down to 35-40. I know AI is ever hungry but it seems a very large amount of fps loss. Is this normal or i need some settings to limit this fps kill? Thanks
November 2, 201312 yr Don't know what your worrying about 35 to 40 fps is good in any ones language I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
November 2, 201312 yr Author Don't know what your worrying about 35 to 40 fps is good in any ones language Yes, running at 35-40 fps it's great for me, my fsx graphics are set to middle power but it's ok. Just curious why without UT2 the difference is so high (50fps or more)
November 2, 201312 yr No, your talking around a 60% reduction in FPS, either this is an isolated incident particular to your set up or something else is causing that big of a drop. If UT2 caused that sort of drop in FPS across the board nobody would use it. With that said I'd play with the settings though and be sure to uncheck the animated gateway option for the AI, unless you got to have it. RE Thomason Jr.
November 2, 201312 yr I get a performance hit with UT2, but I have commercial traffic at 100%, GA traffic around 50%, so I expect to drop a few fps especially at major airports and hubs, but it does not cut my fps by half, not even close. November 2, 201312 yr 90 FPS??. What are you running in the way of 3rd party aircraft and scenery in what scenarios? There must be something else at play to see that much of an FPS drop. As others have stated, I'd kill to be able to run FSX at 40 FPS in every situation let alone 90!! Are we talking the default A321 at cruise altitude or the NGX at KJFK?
November 2, 201312 yr something here is not making any sense. The major goal about running FSX since it is a 2006 program is smoothness of the sim. If you are getting stutters or artifacts, then I would worry about frames. I also use UT2, where exactly are you flying,? what are your specs ? I use UT2 with about 60% commercial traffic, but if I run it at 100% for example at JFK/Fs Dreamteam, and with a PMDG 737ngx, I would have stutters all over the place. Once again the key to fsx, is not so much about frames, but SMOOTHNESS of the sim.
November 2, 201312 yr I get anywhere between 15-30 fps without AI traffic. With 100% ut2, I get 10-25fps anywhere in the sim. I spent a few weeks using UT2 but went back to no AI because of the big framerate hit. I wish there was a miracle out there allowing 100% commercial traffic with no fps hit. But even when that is fixed, the annoyances of fsx atc and which runways they use is enough to drive me mad. FS was just not designed for a lot of AI.
November 2, 201312 yr I like those subtle flaws in the AI renditions. Like when you are waiting to line up with your 747 but there's that Piper J3 in front of you, needing some time to backtaxi on that 4000 metre runway. But since we're talking about UT2, there's a bit of adjustment available in the interface. You can set up the density but also define the overall number of planes around you. Even the radius and height can be optimised, so maybe there's a sweet spot for your system where you have a densely filled looking airport but at minimal fps cost. Well, the AI will still fly like fighter pilots although they carry virtual passengers, but I wouldn't want to miss them. In some way. Must say that the AI in XP is even.. better. I didn't even know that planes could fly like that.
November 2, 201312 yr Moderator For the original poster, make sure the box on the front page of the UT2 that Enables moving jetways for AI is UNCHECKED. Leaving that box checked can cut your FPS in half in a busy area when the AI start activating the jetways. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
November 3, 201312 yr I agree on the J3 Cubs, way too many of them flying in the FSX world. And yes, make sure that the moving jetways option is turned off. Now i fly with 60fps with payware AC like Captain Sim. In major airports like KJFK 25-30 fps. I think moving jetways was the major problem, thanks

November 4, 201312 yr Going from no AI at all to 100% UT2 AI traffic should result in a significant performance hit at the very largest airports. I can run UK2000 Heathrow Xtreme very smoothly with no AI, but adding 100% AI makes it really struggle!
