So what will be your next flight sim?

Just as I am exploring X-plane again right now, I may or may not Explore P3D.

But in general, I kind of reject the thought of having only one sim. I like to play with stuff.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

Keep FSX for PMDG 777 and use P3d V2 for everything else.

I don't think I'll be going to any one platform 'full time' for now (and possibly another year or so). I can understand the benefits of running P3D v2 over FSX and it being the 'shiny new thing' on the block, but I'm a big fan of PMDG planes (and complex, well-simulated airliners in general). The 777, NGX and occasionally MD-11 are pretty much all I fly in FSX at the moment so I really see no point in moving to a new platform such as P3D at the moment.

I actually have FSX running perfectly fine and stable now, it satisfies my simming needs very well so another reason for me not to go anywhere.

I fully understand PMDG's decision to look at X-Plane as a new platform for development, besides EULA's and all that licensing stuff, it is 64-bit so from a development perspective they would see a huge benefit in this. I've been playing around with X-Plane 10 for nearly a year now and there are actually many things it does much better than FSX but it's still not my 'full time' sim as I'm not ready to retire my existing FSX fleet yet that I've invested so much time in. There are also some really amazing releases on the horizon for X-Plane particularly in the complex airliners space.

At the end of the day to me a platform is just that...a platform. It's the add-ons that matter to me the most, and for me that's aircraft more so than scenery.

P3D and FS2004 great combination a new sim w/ a future and the old and trusted w/ all I have w/ it.

How will I know? No need to be condescending!

Not at all "condescending" Diego, simply concise and crisp. ^_^

P3D2 will replace P3d1.4 in my system where XP10 and DCS are also present.

Next year I think I'll buy Aerowinx PSX.

It's funny to read these 'I'm staying with FSX' posts. For so many reasons I did the same with FS9 problem is if one could have an updated FSX engine with better features, better performance, compatibility with 90% of FSX's old releases, and less hassles who wouldn't switch? Even PMDG over time will have to support P3D v2 if it proves to be a runaway success in this community. The change from FSX to P3D v2 is not on the same level as switching from FS9 to FSX. Outside of PMDG most scenery and aircraft will run, it's just the sim is finally fixed and the code cleaned up.

To answer the original poster if P3D v2 proves to be everything it's billed at (and what the beta testers have reported) I'm moving straight from FS9 to P3D v2 (proudly skipping FSX altogether). From there I'll watch with great interest as PMDG backtracks/scrambles to figure out a way to start making their products work in P3D v2 as the shift in usage will be undeniable. Thinking people will stick with FSX (Old) instead of FSX (New) just to use their products in an OOM/tweaking riddled platform is about the same as expecting them to go back at this stage and start producing FS9 products again. Whatever contracts they need to sign they'd best start working on it now if P3D is even half of what it's being touted as. I say this only because of how the FS9 crowd was treated prematurely and now the tables may have turned...

Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

Even with P3Dv2.0 there will be reasons to stick to (even to!) FS9.

To me the progress from P3Dv1.4 to v2.0 doesn't seem that much and PMDG's target group is way bigger than the number of people actively posting in the forums. Still huge potential there with FSX.

The VAS issue will improve slightly but it's still a long way for P3D to become a 64bit application.

Keep cool, guys ...   B)

What happened to AVSIM

Slightly? All they need to do is make sure that scenery that is no longer needed is dumped, and they will have masses of space to work with.

Certainly planning on getting P3D v2. FSX isn't going anywhere here, as it runs and looks superb. Hmmm, let's see: P3D 1.4, P3D 2.0, FSX, XP-NA edition...4 sims at my fingertips.

What have I done? Anyway, will see how v2.0 does and make the call then as to its worthiness and whether it takes over the No.1 slot. FSX is still my main sim. Today.

i7-9700K, MSI Z370, PNY 4070 Super, GTX 750Ti, 32GB GSkill, 43" curved Samsung, 32" BenQ, 11" LED, RealSImGear GTN750, Win10,

P3DV5.4/P3DV6 and MSFS, several GoFlight modules, Saitek radio, Brunner CLS-E NG Yoke, Virtual Fly TQ6.

Progress, advancement and improvements.  Definitly P3DV2 is the plan. most addons compatible or will be. Only keep FSX on because of PMDG aircraft. Not that I want to but I didnt spend 90$ on the 777 for nothing. But im sure it will die quickly on the next CTD, stutter, stupid tweak that didnt work, and or FPS nose diving.

I totally understand that P3D v2 may well be the refined and tidied-up sim code-wise that FSX should have been from the start, but this still doesn't give me justification to move as not all my add-ons will work on it particularly the PMDG 777 which I currently spend about 80% of my simming time.

As for PMDG themselves, I just read the update from RSR regarding their position on P3D and he's made it perfectly clear that there's no way they're going to risk their entire business by jumping onto P3D because 'everyone else' seems to be doing it, and I completely agree with him.

There's actually very few aircraft outside of PMDG ones that I actually fly. This might sound a bit narrow, but I don't buy those aircraft just to do a few tutorials and continuously fly A-B, without reading the FCOM's and not knowing what 80% of the systems actually do, and not even bothering to do anything outside of normal procedures, that's what planes like the Aerosoft AXE are for. To me buying an add-on like that is an investment that will keep me busy for many years, and if that means sticking to FSX then so be it. I actually have FSX running perfectly fine now with minimal tweaking and VAS usage under control, as long as I stay away from Win 8 it runs great.

Going to a new platform like P3D could also potentially mean a hardware upgrade as it will probably be more demanding particularly on the GPU side of things from what I've read. With FSX I stick with the hardware I currently have which is great.

As others have already mentioned in this thread, I'll be playing the 'wait and see' game.

With Prepar3D V2 coming out, i imagine a large number of FSX users will switch. What will you do? Personally, I will go from X-Plane to P3D V2 just for the addons and increased performance (Using Airbus X at an ORBX airport while using REX and various addons and getting an acceptable FPS is my dream! :P ). However, PMDG currently doesn't support P3D, so will that effect your decision? Will you stay with FSX? Or go to X-Plane since PMDG announced a project for it?

Last time I checked, PMDG was not the only Payware dev available to us    Many more talented people out there, and many more sims to enjoy.
