Do You Remember Your First ever Flight in a Jet Aircraft?

Featured Replies

I don't remember, but my first flight was to Mallorca in a Futura 737-400, I was about 1 or 2 years old. The first flight I do remember was in a Delta L1011 to KJFK from EINN.

Unfortunately I don't as I was maybe 1 or 2, it was a charter flight from Helsinki to somewhere in Greece with Finnair's 757, in 1996 or 1997. Since that I've flown in their 757's very many times and even crossed the Atlantic in one two years ago when going to Cuba, that's why I like the 757 so much.

Unfortunately Finnair is going to retire the 757 this year and replace it with new sharklet A321's, not sure if my charter flight to Chania in a couple of months will be operated with a 757 or A321. I hope I would get to fly in a Finnair 757 once more.

Sorry buddy, Finnair just finished up their 757 services. We're getting them all! Muahahaha!

But seriously, Aer Lingus are getting Finnair's 757's and they'll be used for transatlantic flights. I'll hopefully get on one in October!

Comet C2 216 squadron RAF Lyneham 1958, just round the pattern. 'Circuits and bumps' we used to call them.

Rearward facing seats, lots of legroom. I was a Junior Technician (JT) maintaining the aircraft.

No doubt because of the history of cabin structural failure, we used to perform ground runs taking the cabin to max differential pressure. :Nail Biting:

Mine was a joyride in a T33 at King Salmon, Alaska.  It paid to get to know all the pilots you could.

October 1972 in a Hughes Airwest flying banana DC-9.  On my way from Boise, ID to the Moscow-Pullman Airport in Washington to resume my college studies after two weeks of elk hunting in Southern Idaho.

My Chemistry Professor told me I couldn't miss two weeks of classes.  I reminded him that unlike grades K-12, I was paying for this college education (without help from my parents I might add, working my way to a degree).  I informed him I could miss as many weeks as I wanted.  Had to take that class over the next semester... :fool:

You never lose the buzz of flying. Every time you take off, it feels a bit naughty, as if you're doing something you shouldn't do...Matt Jones, Boultbee Flight Academy

Back in 1982. I was 16. First holiday abroad ever. I was already into aviation from an early age, also had a couple of Air Experience Flights as an Air Cadet when I was 13-14.

My Dad and I went in an Arrow Air DC-8 from Gatwick, supposedly non stop to Denver, CO. Unexpected headwinds meant that we had to refuel at Bangor in Maine.

BOAC Comet 4 from Hong Kong to Calcutta in 1960 when I was 15 years old.

My next one was later that year between London and New York in an Air India International B707.

I think it was 1958, I was about 11.  A 707 from Baltimore Friendship to LAX.  We flew through a storm and the wings were flapping like a seagull!!

Yes. It's really recent, actually... SBGR - SUMU (São Paulo, Brazil to Montevideu, Uruguay), in a CRJ900 operated by Pluna, 2011.

I was already a simmer, so it was a great (and a bit odd, to be honest) experience. Fortunately, the flight itself was uneventful.

Super DC 8 round 1970 from Amsterdam to Gerona Spain. I was about 10 and was asked to take a look in the cockpit like all the kids were, but i was overcome with shyness all of a sudden and didn't go.

I guess it was some sort of immense adoration for the pilots or something like that.

Can't say I remember my first time riding on one my dad was an airline pilot so I was less than 1. I do remember my first my flying a jet though it was Citation CJ the first thing that came to mind were the words of Adolf Galland when he spoke on flying the first jet fighter the Me262 "It's as if the angels are pushing" It was so smooth, quiet and responsive, not to mention a much better climb rate than the piston engine planes I had been flying, now just need to get a full time job flying s jet

I actually do - it was in 1992 while I was serving at the Portuguese Airforce, and got a ride in a T-37 :-)

Although I got my PPL ( gliders only ) in 1980 ( still current :-) ) I also flew for the first time in a commercial flight ( a320 ) in 1996 !!!!  By that time I had accumulated a buch of "hours" in MSFS, PS1, ATP and so on...
