"Microsoft Sells License to FS Franchise" Part 2

Featured Replies

In reply to no one,

Its clearly all marketing, avsim is the biggest FS community going, Sure the 'rumours' would hit here first.

The 'source' is more than likely an employee for of the licensee.

Its also more than likely that the 'source' is reading these forums, especially this thread. He/she might be taking all of the comments on board in order to carefully design the press release. I cant see why the rumours would hit here if it there wasn't going to be development in our favour, rather than some other gaming journalism site like IGN.

Either Tom is in the loop and knows when the information will drop, or is being kept on a tight leash. I think he will be the first to post the news on these forums.

You guys are talking about flour bombing as if it is a Flight Sim invention and only happens in video games.

Flour bombing targets on an airfield is a fun event at real recreational aviation events all over the world and has

been before there ever where flight simulators. You would use a funnel to fill up a balloon to about twice the size a

tennis ball and then from about 500 to 1000 feet drop it out the window trying to hit a target on the ground.

I almost competed in such an event. The safety officer at my club suggested it. As the event Organizer I cancelled it

because of safety concerns. LOL

That's exactly what i suggested in an early contribution to this thread. Which Tom denied.

Seeing as FLEX1978 seems to be the source of this mess, he should perhaps try and clarify it.

Best regards,

Robin.

Just got home.., Ok I am going to bite on this one since it seems that a few people here are  incapable of either getting that grey matter out of first gear or at least fully reading all the posts...

1. I was informed in person by a friend & very senior exec that the organization  he was involved in had purchased the rights to FSX.  This was over a month ago, I spoke to someone here in private to confirm but drew a blank.. For obvious reasons this info was kept to myself. I thought if this is true I will find out sooner or later.

2. Tom posts on the front page out of the blue this week. I informed him that I had already spoke to the people involved but will double check. (this doesn't mean I will phone up the executive director of an airline at 2am to confirm just to satisfy the curiosity of a bunch of simmers)

3.  After a few emails with Tom I had also confirmed that what I was told was partially true, the people who I know had made a bid that looked very promising, however a key misunderstanding was that  they are not the only group trying to purchase.

For those reasons I am glad I did not mention the names of any individuals or organizations.

Once again, my post was to let Tom and the forum know that I had been informed of the plans of this particular group, the main reasons was to let people know the plans for the franchise looked very good.  During the initial & casual conversation I was never made aware that multiple groups had made bids.

Tom confirmed that unfortunately this group was unsuccessful (I don't think it has anything to do with lack of cash)..  I have no idea who got the bid, I sent an email to my friend but considering he runs one of the largest private jet company's out here I am not exactly going to rush him for  an answer..

I was optimistic about all of this for the last few months, now I am not too sure what it means for simmers.

Hi,

Thanks for clarifying. B)

Best regards,

Wow, Rob. Sounds like an amazing story! "HEADLINE NEWS" actually.

The outcome will be interesting.

Also thank You for the open words on that.

Your latest post is great and clarify things like it have been sold. So we have to wait and see who is the new license owner, any other speculations are just speculations from now.

Thanks Rob.

I've got to admit that after several days of following this thread I've come to not care who bought it because as yet, it's simply not something that will affect any of us one way or the other for some, probably considerable, amount of time. The only conclusion that can reasonably be drawn from this thread and others is that simming is something we all seem to be more passionate about than perhaps we should be :Just Kidding:.  I'm not on Avsim that long but it seems to me from what I've seen that we could reasonably be considered a bunch of hard to please cranky old gits  . Now I say this meaning no offence to anyone! It seems that the FS market has become more fragmentend over time with people taking genuine offence to each other rather easily as each is drawn into a my sim your sim kind of position.

Personally I think that adopting a position behind one sim or the other to the exclusion of the idea that other sims have anything to offer is a rather narrow perspective to be drawn into. Now I do understand the compulsion to stand behind a given sim having a direct correlation to how much money and effort you may have invested in said sim but sweet jebus we do a lot of bickering for men and women who should at this stage know better. :Peace:  I just think we could probably all try a bit harder to foster a sense of community and less hard to score points off each other. Again this is directed at nobody in particular, just a commentary on what we all know at this stage of our varied lives. I do pose the question though, am I the only one who thinks this way? (Wouldn't be a first)

In a word: No.

No, there are a few. There are also an awful lot of people, as Tom once said, "Who feel passionately"

When the dander is up, good luck talking calmly to a lynch mob!

I think the people looking askance at some of the antics are the silent majority, actually.

No....for the most part, people here are pretty nice even though we can all get a bit on the hot under the collar from time to time. If you watch who is posting the whinners, and complainers and nut jobs become fairly well known in short order. The best approach is your fav drink and pop corn. I have come to enjoy sitting around like a monkey and throwing fecial matter at them. It just make um scream louder.

Oh no, this has always been part of the folklore :Black Eye:

LOL, this is where I miss the like button and the funny button. It's a pity we couldn't have like without dislike, ah well. I'm well into my fifth beer and I'm practically bulletproof :drinks: fecal matter at the ready.

Yeah maybe it's always been this way and I've been looking through rose tinted beer goggles. I dunno, people are strange!

Anyhoo, sorry for going off topic.
