Prepar3D v2.5 Development Update

I avoid "fresh installs" whenever I can, now that I know that LM only allows a certain number of them.  Once the limit is reached, you have to get with them and get their blessing to re-install P3D, probably prove to them you paid for it, yada, yada.  I don't need the hassle.

Just curious where you have seen this limit?

Thanks,

gb.

Looking forward to the beta videos Rob. I for one love the changes. Perpetually amused by the complaints about a living, vibrant sim. But I am equally curious as to why we can't get a transparent ATC window. The simplest fix of all.

I'm inclined to agree - but if complete re-installs are needed for every update, as it seems they might be, then I think I'm going to run a very lean install from now on.  Which actually might not be such a bad thing, now that I think about it.  Maybe time to take my cardiologist's advice about diet and apply it to P3D...  B)

This has been my strategy from early on.  Really, from everything I've read these incremental releases don't always offer a whole lot to the average user, plus sometimes introduce new problems.   Since I have a fair amount of add ons to install, and sometimes this may entail downloading the newest versions, I've held pat w/ 2.2.  That being said, it's therefore an old install and it wouldn't hurt to start anew as it were.    I am not hopeful LM will advance 32-bit P3D V2.x significantly so makes sense to install the latest one that will likely last me until 64-bit.   I think these 'releases' one could call a euphemism for 'beta releases', so when you install them it's best to look at them as beta releases and you get to find out what hasn't been discovered from their own testing.  Hopefully they survey the boards frequently and take some of their task list from there, though sometimes it really doesn't seem so.

Excuse my idiocy but why do so many folks clamor for a transparent ATC window? I must've missed something...

Have NO idea where you got this fable from but, as long as you UNINSTALL the original first and then INSTALL the full update you will have no problem with activation .

racklefratz could I draw your attention to the ALERT pinned topic, the one in red, at the beginning of the forum.  It seems you are misinformed.

I'm confused by Rob's terrain shadow on/off images. I can see the terrain difference in the last two, but the first two, Zurich shots, I can't seem to find any differences between the two?

Yang if you care to read Rob's post instead of just looking at the pretty pictures all will be explained.

Rob,

there's possibly another shadow bug (I'm not sure if this was also in pre 2.4 versions):

VC shadows could only be enabled, when "object shadow cast distance" is enabled.

You can move both sliders of course, but VC shadows do only show up if object shadows are also enabled.

In earlier versions I could enable VC shadows without object shadows ... if I remember that right.

Maybe you could have a look, please

thanks

All of my photoscenery and the majority of 3d scenery is on seperate SSD's , so I probably can probably use the 'old' scenery.cfg file, copy and paste the content of my current effect folder to the new one and do the same with my textures.

I will reinstall P3D and some addons, but 90% of them I do not need to reinstall.

And as LM has stated that this is the first update for P3Dv2 in 2015 we already know that there will come another one later this year.

Great to see improvements keep coming.

We can't expect everything to be solved in one update.

It looked so bad that I simply uninstalled the sim and haven't touched it in the past 6-8 months, just waiting for a fix.

I assume you mean SimObjects shadows?  I'm not seeing that problem in any of my aircraft with SimObjects cast/receive unchecked I still see VC shadows.  Is there a specific aircraft this is happening with?

Cheers, Rob.

Good to hear that the shadow issue should be cured. Wait and see I'd say ! BTW it is not tied to a specific region; i've seen it in AU, NA, PNG and Europe ! It is less apparent from the VC (where I fly from most of the time) but is clearly visible in the outside view specially at mid day.

Now the last big flaw for me is the flashing lines popping up when the building autogen slider is full right with urban areas  in view. The GPU may not be  at full use but these darned artifacts keep popping up. There's a thread at the LM forum on this issue but it seems that the LM folks don't read threads and don't listen to anybody but one user   ...

That's a strange one, I've never seen that despite having fiddled a lot with all the shadow settings. Have you tried deleting your shader folders? Only the Internal Vehicle Cast/Receive boxes have any effect on VC shadows. I agree, though, that the Object Shadow Cast Distance slider is a mystery to me. It doesn't seem to have any effect whatsoever on my machine...

I think he's talking about the Object Shadow Cast Distance, one of the sliders above the checkboxes.
