I may skip 2.5 and wait what 2.6 will bring.

I, however, welcome the improvments on the simdirector as I think tat there is big potential for missions.

I'm really impressed with LM who continue to fully support P3D and provide updates. The same can't be said for MS who basically turned their back on FSX and left us with software that was still a work in progress and badly needed updates.

Wow. Four pages in about 18 hours. I hope Rob or someone comes up with a way to save our addons again if we have to do a full install. Assuming that our addons like Orbx scenery don't have to be patched too to work with the new version.

Currently, I am developing small software and keep support for it, so I know one thing - You need to have priorities.

There is always a whole list of things to improve or fix.

Some people would like to have fixes for issues from group A (let's say performance), others want fixes/features from group B (simdirector). So you focus on one thing at one update and on the other thing within the next update.

You can't focus on everything at once, because it would take years to fix it all. And there would be no versions 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 .. released in intervals of few months, but one version 3.0 released years after 2.0.

No. This deals mostly with wake and contrail effects.

Then let's hope that it solves the "vertical contrails" bug.

That said - it is always better to clean house, so to speak, and do a fresh install.

Not when it takes an entire weekend.

As I understand it that will be the only option for v2.5, there will be no patch.

Guess who will not be wasting their time upgrading to version 2.5 then?

I'll bite the bullet and do a full install if I must.  But, if the improvements are relatively minor, I won't be happy about it.  I'd rather see this happen with a really major (3.0?) update and not an incremental one.

I do not have any of the problems listed.

If there will be only a full install, I'll stay with the 2.4, waiting for what really interests me: transparent ATC, more work of the GPU, better AA, etc..

To be fair, I think that's a bone to pick with nVidia and not LM.

Define "end of the road." For version 2? Who knows... but it does seem like there's more to fix, i.e. necessitating a 2.6. Or, generally? No way...

IMO, this excuse from P3D is no longer valid.  This little game worked for the last 2 releases, but now we are on 2.5 and it is no longer valid.  I highly doubt they even followed up with nvidia at this point.

Dude....you are just plain rude! This little game you speak of is called business and you have no idea as to what LM has done with the Nvidia folks. Nothing but whinning.

I've skipped 2.3 & 2.4, and I'm becoming inclined to skip 2.5 since there doesn't appear to be a whole lot that matters to me and perhaps the majority of people like me who visit this forum.  Fortunately 2.2 works quite well, and mission creation is something I do w/ FSCaptain which is a fabulous program ;o)

It's sounding more and more like the only real changes for the commoner will come with 64-bit and DirextX 12 support.

I'm still using 2.2 after reading about issues w/ 2.4.  Do you believe 2.4 was a benefit for you over 2.2/2.3?

Hi,

An extract from Saul's reply in a thread over at the LM forums:

"But contrary to previous upgrading methods, Patching to 2.5 will not be an option. (Due to some folder restructuring)

So a full install is the only option for those wishing to upgrade to v2.5."

Can't say I'm surprised. After the unresolved problems with their previous patch updaters I suspect LM decided that this would be the simple solution rather than expend any effort trying to please everyone. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see exactly what is meant by "folder restructuring".

I predict this time around significant numbers will decide to stay with v.2.4 or at least defer their decision until they have read the impressions of others who have taken the plunge.

If NVIDIA time the release of a profile for Prepar3D to coincide with the release of v.2.5 (now wouldn't that be a surprise?!) then that might tempt me to destroy my current customised and stable installation and start again from scratch. Otherwise it's hard to feel excited about the prospect.

Mike

I agree, Mike. I certainly will not be making any hasty decision to upgrade to version 2.5 if I have to reinstall the lot from scratch. My UK photo scenery alone takes ages to install.

It isn't rude when it's the truth.  I am in the same type of business where many of my milestones are dependent upon when my customers can get me parts/raw material.  If my projections are wrong, I take the heat.  It seems like software companies these days have never even heard of setting milestones or even setting release dates for projects.

I mean, even though P3D does not have a working SLI profile, the least they could do is allow us to leave the feature enabled with P3D crashing and/or bad framerate.

Is there much point in re-installing? I just leave them and point the scenery config to the correct folders.
